Stupid Scale

So how come you can eat (almost) squeaky clean for a week and work out 6 days, and lose 2 pounds, then eat crap on your rest day and gain 4 pounds?!!? One step forward, 10 steps backwards. Stupid scale.

Robin - dude - you didn't gain 4 lbs in a day. It's likely just water weight from the crap you ate. Don't stress it.:)

You could always borrow my sledgehammer! I'm done with it. The guy's satellite isn't squealing anymore:p

Robin, I'm sending you a cyber kick. Please deliver it to your scale.

:D

What a timely post! I was just telling my husband this morning that I think we need a new scale b/c I think the "down" direction is busted.

Well, I, ME, miss hater of all things cardio, did cardio 4X's last week and my scale didn't budge. Of course, I ate like a human garbage disposal over the weekend. Do you think that had anything to do with it?

I've just begun a hate-hate relationship w/the double beam scale at my new gym. Last Thursday I weighed 118, Friday I weight 116, & Sunday I weighted 120.

I am never getting on that d*mn thing again! I'm sticking w/my usual scale at work, which is consistent & matched the scale at my old gym. x(

Do you think it is a terrorist plot to have all the scales move upward when they should so obviously be moving downward? When my scale goes up, I don't feel attractive. When I don't feel attractive, my DH suffers. He, in turn, becomes more aggressive and easily annoyed. If this happened to men in high places with lots of power, it could lead to WW III. I think congress should address this. Everyone woman should write to their congressman. We need a special committee to investigate the producers of bathroom scales.

Oh, I am soooo there!

It is frustrating, so I don't weigh myself daily.

I lose all motivation.

I have a nice scale that measures BMI -- for non athletes.

So I always end up "overweight" for BMI.

Of course, the scale manufacturer clearly indicates that the BMI for athletes will not be valid.

I only go by how my skinny jeans fit. I weigh myself now about once a month. I get too frustrated by the scale and its stupidness;)

I bought a bodyfat scale yesterday and it has the "athlete mode" option. I measured my bodyfat in normal mode and athlete mode and the athlete mode was 4% lower. In either mode I still have a couple of percentages to lose :p. I'm loving it though. I'm planning to measure my body weight twice a week (in the morning) and my bodyfat % and body water % once or twice a month.

Ladies,

Open your window, but first look out to see who’s lurking. Go get your scales and throw is out the dog gone window lol :p ;-) so frustrating up & down down then up

As of today, I plan on going 10 days out. Simply meaning every 10 days I weigh myself. I did this before with good results it help me too stay focused cuz aint NO way I am going to step back on my scale 10 days later and remain at the same weight Not going to happen usually I lose 3 too 4 lbs. Join me! It works.

Robin,

My husband decides to get into fitness lately, and lost a little over 20 pounds. He ate one day of food that he shouldn't have. The next day he got on the scale, and it said he gained 4 pounds. You have to realize he is an engineer and it didn't make sense to him. He worked his butt off to lose that weight. He went into the steam bath, and weighed again then came out 4 pounds lighter. So don't get frustrated, it is only water. Same thing happens to me. It sure is frustrating though.;(

You are doing great,;)

Ha-ha! Robin, you're on to something there. :) I see it more as a conspiracy among people in the fitness industry. The higher the numbers on the scale go, the more people are inclined to join gyms, buy weight loss pills, stock up on processed and pre-packaged low-fat food, etc. This is why I hardly ever step on a scale. Only during leaning out season, and only every 2-3 weeks until I get to the numbers I want on my tape measure and caliper, not the scale.

I threw my scale out last summer and have been happy ever since! I kept it in the bathroom and would weigh myself practically every day. When my weight went up, I felt bad. When it was down, I felt good. Considering how much it fluctuates, what a roller-coaster! And when I was doing a lot of weight lifting, the scale went up while my pants size went down.... I use how my clothes fit and the tape measure, now. No more ups and downs-- did I mention that I'm a lot happier:) ?

Just remember, the scale isn't always the a good way to look for results (unless your trying to loose wieght) Be careful because if you gain a few pounds, just like Shelly (Allwildgirl) said it could be water wieght or even you could be building more muscle. IMO the best way to track results for anyone trying to loose weight, firm up, or building muscle do body fat tests. Even if you gain a few pounds, that doesn't mean your body fat goes up, if anything it will go down a few %s.
