STS January Check In - Welcome All!

Hi all
I had a great day, workout-wise. For some reason I had loads of energy and flew through everything - a 40 minute run and then STS Legs. I also did lots of yoga (4 x 20minute sessions). I'll sleep well!

Lisa - great dvd to take with you - you'll get cardio, strength and stretching. Well done on the eating and drinking (or not eating and drinking). Difficult when you're travelling.

Diane - wow, that's some workout. I'd have to do it in 2 sessions. I can't get beyond about 70 minutes in 1 go! Where was your dad stationed in the UK? I'm in Lincolnshire - I'm only about 1 hour from London (where I lived for 20 years, before coming to live in the country).

Crazysoccermom- I've never tried the Gauntlet etc. Would love to know what you think.

Take care everyone
Justine x

Welcome Diane!

I am SOOOO sore from Legs Disc9. I can only this it was the single leg, elevated heel deadlifts. I love it, but lots of groaning going on today.

I didn't get out of bed at 5am. Too painful to turn over, so I skipped it. lol Lame excuse. But I get get to the work gym at lunch and did run speed intervals for 45 mins (speed for me is 6.0mph, btw.)

Tired now and I've been hungry all afternoon.

Tomorrow will be Disc 10 now!

Justine, my Dad was stationed at Bentwaters AFB. I have always been prone to do my workouts straight through. If I try saving something for later I rarely go back and do it. When I add on yoga or extra stretching it tends to make the workouts longer. I try to not over do the workouts though. With arthritis and worn knee joint, the doc says to crosstrain and take it easy on the impact a bit. I have new workouts I haven't been able to try yet:( It looks like you had some workout yourself :)

This morning I got up early to get my workout in. I have an internet service person coming out anywhere from 8 am to 8 pm so I guess I am just ready and waiting now  I remember when used to get up at 4am to workout and shower before daycare children came in and I did the school rounds. I am glad I am not doing that anymore!! I was up at 5 this morning. Today I did Cathe's Pedal Power 58 minutes, 516 calories, 15 miles. I then did Yoga Max express 2, 34 minutes, 112 calories. Total time was 92 minutes, 628 calories.

Morning ladies!

I successfully dragged my sore-rear out of bed this am. Disc 10: Chest, Shoulders and Biceps (and can I add triceps work with the pushups .. lol)

Ran out of time due to some fast equiptment changes that needed to be rewound. Missed the last two exercises.

Tonight is the parent-child class for speed-agility-strength with my daughters coach. Should be fun.

Have a fantastic Thursday

Ow ow ow ow. For some mad reason I did Great Glutes Extreme today - after having run and done STS Legs yesterday. I went heavy - 8kg where Cathe used 8lbs - and then I added ankle weights for the floor work! I'd already walked 5 miles in the sleet / hail as well! I must be mad.
Then I did a wonderful yoga for legs/hips/ glutes. This evening I did 4DS higher intensity step = yeah, another step routine I can follow.

I'm dreading my interval run tomorrow. :(
I like ramping it up before a recovery week. It's not doing much for my waist-line, however.

You all seem to be doing well. Diane, I'm so impressed that you got such a great workout in before your computer guy arrived.

Crazysoccermom - enjoy the class with your daughter's coach - try not to show the kids up!

Have a great Friday everyone
Justine

OK - so I jinxed myself! Interval run was horrid this morning! The ground was icy, which didn't help - but I just didn't have it in me. I did 40 minutes, but it was not impressive!
I did a bit better on STS - back and biceps. I was deadlifting 60kg - my own body weight :p I'm going to do some kickboxing and yoga later.

And then collapse!

What a fun night! We did the same drills as the girls:

1 min of pushups - I did 30 (30!!!) on my toes, then 10-12 on my knees in 1 min. That was awesome. I've never done that many .. stopped at 15 before.

Modified pull ups on low-bar - 30 seconds. Ha - that was funny. First bar location was more advanced and I only did 6 I think. The second time around we switched positions and that was easier and I did 12 I think in the 30 seconds.

Pikes on ball with hands on bars. That hurt, and by now my wrists were irritated. Two sets.

Then rope pull of big foam cube with our gymnast on it (mine weight 70-80 pounds of solid muscle, so she was heavy.) Pulled her across the floor.

Speed drills: lay flat on stomach (and then back) pop up and sprint to cone, touch cone, and backward run back to start. Did that twice each direction.

T-drill: sprint to middle cone and touch, side step to left cone and touch, shuffle to far right cone and touch, shuffle back to middle cone touch, turn and sprint back to start. Twice.

Then the finale with is hard to explain. Keep moving in zigzag steps across floor, 'flip' over foam block (sideways somersault), then shuffle to the left touching all the cones on the way. Twice.

It was fun. I asked my daughter at the end how I did, and she gave me the shrug. lol Gee, thanks! I'm still stoked about my pushups though.

Friday am: woke up with a headache and finally decided to get up and take Excedrin Migraine and get in at least a 10 min workout when it went away. Had enough time for 40 mins - decided on Rhythmic Step. Skipped end of section 2 and all of 3, but did the challenge. How is it that Cathe looks younger today?!?!

Taking a few minutes to check in and say Hi! It's been a very hectic week at work, then to top it off, my DSL was down most of the morning. I didn't get to work out Wed or Thurs, but found time this morning to do disc 11. I'll probably finish this week 1 day late. I still need to do spinning, Disc 12 and UY yoga Detox! Good thing next week is an active recovery week. I need it!

I didn't drink all week and really, really wanted to more than once. I do have a bottle chilling for this evening, along with fish, baked potatoes and a salad. I'm trying. TTYL!

Lisa

This morning I took a try again with Amy Bento Ross Body Box. I got through the warm up and combo 1 but not the interval of flying jacks, tuck jumps and overhead press. I couldn't even try with the rebounder because I wouldn't be able to pick up the weights. This was 18 minutes. I then did Cathe's Athletic Training express upper pre mix 46 minutes. I followed with Ab Circuits weights and plates abs 18 minutes and finished with Z Cut yoga 1 warrior endurance and cooldown 11 minutes. Workout was 93 minutes and 592 calories. I am still waiting for our internet to be repaired. I sure wish I had not tried to upgrade. They messed it up and now are saying Sunday. I am a slave to the phone. Tomorrow we are travelling out of town. I will do the Treadclimber and some yoga.

Lisa, I know how you feel on the dsl being down. We, have been without since yesterday around noon. Our city has a city wide free internet but it does not always work and is really slow. I am lucky I am on it. Good job on the eating and no drinks. It is hard to get past those habits and change them.

Justine the Great Glutes Extreme and the 5 mile walk in sleet and cold really was quite a workout. I would be saying ouch myself. Good work on the deadlifts.

Crazy Soccer Mom, it sounds like you had quite a fun time with the girls and got in some really good work too :)

Today's workout was Rapid Fire 4 Premix Boxing and core, 46 minutes 260 calories. I then used the Tread Climber 26 minutes, 263 calories. Headed out of town for a birthday party for my youngest grandchild :D

Everyone is doing so well - Crazysoccermom- 30 push ups - you showed'em! Lisa, well done keeping off the wine. I doubt I'd have managed. And Diane - you don't look like a grandmother - wow!

Yesterday I did Cardio Supersets Extreme (the one with an extra 20 minute step routine) I was good and tired after that. I had planned on doing something else (gentle) early evening, but my plans were scuppered. I'm a volunteer first responder and I had a bad call-out yesterday. When I got home, I couldn't even manage a gentle yoga. I cancelled my evening out, and plopped down on the sofa with a bottle of red and my favourite TV series (The Bridge - a 'Scandi Noir' drama).
Not good!

I did my long walk (10miles) this morning, and am planning on another workout later. I have book club this evening - which is more of a dining club where we chat a bit about a book - so I need to make room for the food!

Hope everyone's well,
Justine

No workout today. I generally take a rest day on Sundays. I have my workout cards printed up for next week to begin Mesocycle 2. Today will be a catch up day with things. Also back to my healthy eating. Yesterday was so bad I didn't even log it into my fitness pal. It would have been hard to figure and guess anyway. McDonalds salad for lunch, slice veggie pizza, Cheetos, doritos, ice cream sandwich with 3 layer cake(interesting way to do cake and ice cream), then late snack of salad with turkey breast. My daughter planned the birthday dinner completely around my grandson's 3rd birthday. With 7 grandchildren we have tons of birthday parties and celebrations. Starting this year we will be having some yearly graduations too. My oldest granddaughter is graduating this year and making college plans :( I can't believe how the time flies.

Justine, it sounds like you have a pleasant day planned :) Great workouts too. It sounds like you did plenty without the second lighter workout. A 10 mile walk is a long walk! I keep telling myself I need to take turns with my dogs and walk them around the park. It is just around the block and 1 mile around it. Thanks for the compliment :D

Good evening ladies. I didn't get all the planned workouts for this week completed. I have at least a spinning premix to do and UY HardCore Abs. Not too bad considering traveling and just a horrible work week. I did UY Detox and it was very timely do to today. I hope it cleanses all the toxins from last week and sets me up for a better week.

Went grocery shopping with my hubby today and feel prepared for the week ahead. I have some steel cut oatmeal in the crock pot and some power bars baking in the oven. I've never made the power bars before, but they smell divine!

It's to be another cold week here in PA. Planning to make some Italian Wedding Soup tomorrow night.

Trying to get a head start on work week...check in tomorrow.

Lisa

Morning ladies :)

Sat I did Disc 11 - Back and Triceps. Then Sunday I did Disc 12 - Legs. Skipping the two cardios to put me into rest week. Phew.

Today was an 'easy' cardio. Wasn't up to a lot of jumping after legs yesterday. Pulled out Step Blast and did 35 mins. Decided to cut it a bit short as I am going to double it up today at lunchtime.

Need to log in to STS Manager and update my weights for some of the exercises so I can prep sheets for Meso 2. I feel tired, but great.

Eating: Need to focus more on the weekends. I plan out my weekday food, which is easier to keep to a schedule when I am at work. But weekends are throwing me for a loop. I'm not eating awful, but not as regulated as I want to be in order to have the success I want. So that is my focus goal for the next month - get my weekends planned out the way my weekdays are.

Yippee for Rest and Recovery week!

Today I started with Rapid Fire 4 warm up and kickboxing rounds, then did STS disc 13 week 1, and finished with the core and stretch from Rapid Fire 4. Total time was 1 hr 54 minutes and calories burned 649.

Crazy Soccer Mom, I understand the weekends being harder to keep the eating good. It seems we end up at birthdays and functions where there is no control on the food. I am good during the week and even if we go out to a restaurant I try to keep the choices healthy and do pretty well. I have a problem with staying up late and then wanting to snack before bed. Last night I had a salad before bed. I have never really done the one rep max or put my weights in the workout manager. I just log the workouts done and weight, bodyfat etc., and print the work sheets.

Lisa, it is cold here too. I have to go out on errands and really am not looking forward to the freezing winds. I set the crockpot up with some Paleo pumpkin chicken chili this morning. It feels like a soup day :)

Yesterday I shoveled snow, then last evening did UY Mtn. Sequence & HardCore. While Mtn. Sequence is an easy routine, slowing down is a real challenge for me. Did anyone else have problems with their DVDs from UY? About half of mine wouldn't play and I had to have them replaced. They were great about doing so. I blame the original packaging. I put HardCore in and had the same problem. I have CrossTrain/HardCore that is separate from the series, so did that one. Assuming they are the same HardCore routines.

I'm not sure who I was cooking for last night. I made a pot of Italian Wedding soup and baked ziti. Ended up freezing the baked ziti. There are only 2 of us!

Today is spinning and an ab workout. The high today is zero, so the leftover soup will be dinner.

Hard to believe it is 1/28 already! Take care and have a great day all!

Lisa

Today it took me awhile to do something. I went to bed sick last night. Still not feeling real well. I did Party Rockin Step 2, 54 minutes 454 calories.

I wasn't feeling it this morning. Got thru 10 mins of Amy Bento's Hi Lo Extreme .. and gave up. Knees were aching, didn't want to be high energy.

So pulled out Amy's Abs and Stretch and did 20 mins of that. Didn't make it to the stretch part ..

I guess this is what rest and recovery weeks are for, right?!

Hope you're feeling better Diane.

Today I did spinning and Bob Harper's Yoga abs (from Yoga Warrior). Between doing UY HardCore last night and this one today, I hope no one makes me laugh or that I have to sneeze tomorrow. I'm sure I'm going to feel it. IMHO, they are both really good ab workouts.

I'm struggling with my active recovery week. I've seen good results thus far from Mesocycle 1 and want to jump right in to M2. My jeans are all fitting nicely. Hoping to buy a new pair in a smaller size for my birthday in April!

Good night.

Lisa
