STS for gastric bypass patient?

I've lost 115 pounds in 8 months after having gastric bypass surgery. I just went to my primary doctor a week or so ago. He told me I need to build muscle. Would this program be too much for someone like me who is starting over in a position of having lost muscle and strength? I'm most wondering if I should start with the 2nd regime because I want to build strength and get the best toning. Please give as much info as you can. I'm new at this. Thanks for any help you can give.

Congrats on your weight loss! That is wonderful!
My sister broke her back a few years ago and just lost all of her muscle and strength. Once she recovered and was cleared by her doctor, I got her Cathe's Beginner/Intermediate series called Low Impact Step/ Total Body Sculpting and there was a stretch dvd that went with it. This helped her inch her way back into getting in decent shape and she progressed from there. Note, she started with the stretch dvd which I think is an awesome rout. I'm recovering from a shoulder/collar bone injury and I've been doing yoga and I feel that it has kept me well conditioned just by working on flexibility and staying within my restrictions set by my dr.

STS can be started by a beginner but I think you would find the workout I recommended to be less of an investment and would do a great job at getting you started. Also, you can make any workout as easy or as hard as you want based on the wts you use and how hard you push yourself. I would build the foundation gradually so that you don't get discouraged and I feel it would be less painful. If, you opt for the 2nd meso cycle you should listen to your body.Cathe designed the program so that you are using the proper wts that your body can handle. That is what the 1RPM is all about. I would strongly recommend completing those before beginning the program.

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but Reece - just curious as to what kind of surgery you had? I'm 4 1/2 weeks out from a/c joint surgery that, unexpectedly, turned into additional rotator cuff repair.... it bites, this recovery. Stuck in a sling 24/7 - no exercise except for PT, typing with one hand ... and NO WORKOUTS!! I'm curious as to how your recovery is going?

eta - Sorry, I meant to congratulate ohiogirl on your weight loss - that is fantastic!!

princessbear- I had no surgery. I've been going to a natural health Dr. here in town (Dr. Harris) and he uses a laser and round thing that loosens up the tense fascia and tissue. I just switched to him at the beginning of November. Last time I went in I told him that my left knee felt tense when I'd go into warrior pose. Well the knee cap was out off center so he lasered a few points in my lower back and then used the vibrator thing on a few points around my knee and I did legs yesterday and didn't experience the usual discomfort!
I had been seeing a chiropractor but, the problems kept reoccurring. I was just cleared to do moderate exercise on the 4th. I've been pain free for about 2 weeks so whatever he is doing is working. I can actually move my arm, rest my arm without it causing me grief. I have been dealing with this injury since this past SPRING! I have been very frustrated this year and have spent a lot of money trying to fix the problem.
