STS DVDs and STS Gym

I understand these 2 are different workouts. So we don't mix them, right? For example, I'd use my DVDs for the whole program. When that period is over I can move over to STS Gym which I'll do at the gym only.

Or are there other ways?

Thanks,
Susie

No, my thoughts are that you could either use the DVD's or if you preferred the gym inorder to use their equipment (if you didn't have them at home) you could download the w/o and take it to the gym instead.

Make any sense?

So if I buy both DVDs and STS Gym for my MP3 player I can use DVDs at home one day for Chest and tricep (for example) and the next day can go use the equipment at the gym for legs using the STS Gym?

Am I understanding this correctly? :)

We haven’t made STS Gym yet so it is really hard to give you an answer. The two workout programs are not designed to work together, but that is not to say you couldn’t do what you suggest. We will just have to wait and see how this program turns out.

Chris,

Just a thought, perhaps STS Gym need not be audio only?

I have an ipod nano 3g that I wear strapped to my wrist on a wrist band. I take Cathe on video to the gym on my ipod video regulqarly. I cannot watch all the time while exercising and mostly rely on audio, since it compromises form to watch, but the visual cues are still available for a quick peek should I need them.

Another option is to make it a combination of video demonstration of the form during the rest breaks and have the screen go blank with audio only voice-over while the person does the exercise.

I am very excited about STS Gym and plan to definitely buy. Ever since the muscle animation came up on the blog I am tempted to break down and get STS too. The thought being put into these workouts is so impressive. Understanding muscle anatomy makes exercise so much more intelligent. People who do STS will know what muscle they are working when they weight train with any other DVD or instrutor and be able to assess how balanced a program or their own rotatioons are in future. Usually you have to read a very boring book to learn this. Muscle animation is a brilliant idea.

ETA: Sorry for going off topic. :)

Current plans are for STS Gym to be produced only in the MP3 format (audio only). MP3 cannot support video, but we can and plan on inserting jpeg pictures that will show instructions for each exercise.

There are three problems with showing video on an ipod like you suggest. First, the ipod screen is just too small for an exerciser to really view while they’re working out. The only thing that it could be used for is to show video instructions on how to do an exercise.Second, video production costs are very high while audio only production costs are extremely low. Lastly, video files are very large and more difficult to down load than MP3 files.

What you have suggested is a good idea and something we actually thought of a long time ago, but with a slight twist. We don’t see the Gym user using the ipod to view a workout while at the gym, but instead to be a device that will easily hook into an exercise machine and will then display instructions and take you through your workout. But that is not all we plan on using the ipod for. We also want to have the ipod also control the machine and record your workout data. Take a treadmill for instance…You would go to the gym and plug your ipod into the treadmill. You would then select a Cathe workout from your ipod and press play. Cathe will appear on your clubs treadmill’s Tv and will take you through a workout. But this will not just be a video you will watch, the ipod will actually control the treadmill so that when Cathe says “let’s increase our speed to 6”, your treadmill will increase its speed automatically. You will not have to do anything. You will have the ability to set maximum speeds and maximum incline for your safety.

Our club in NJ was actually designed and wired so that we can do everything a just described. We’ve been in talks with one of the leading Treadmill manufacturers to make this a reality within the next few years. Technology wise this can be done now, but It will be a few more years before this will be economically feasible.

sounds like nordictrack's ifit cards only with video.....

cute work out clothes are good for AT LEAST an additional 10-15 calories burned!

Chris,

WOW! If your club is all-wired it sounds ready to be the beta-site for this technology. I am tempted to move from India to NJ to live near your club. :)

Speaking from personal experience, the ipod screen being small is not an issue for me (but then I can watch a whole movie on that screen). The new ipods and media players have such bright screens. That compensates for size, for my eyes.

I am first in line, credit card in hand for STS Gym. Audio / video / jpeg illustrations / whatever you chose, I bet it will be a fantastic product.

I personally prefer audio only :) Eventhough I've preordered the DVDs I'm still looking forwards to buy the STS Gym because I feel like using more of the gym I belong to.

I pay $10 a month for some awesomely new equipment at my Planet Fitness (I'd have to buy equipment to replicate my heavy weight work at home $$$) and would sure love a portable version of STS to take with me, preferably with video or visual cues. I am also not interested in iPOD exclusives so if I were to purchase the gym version I need to know that is not platform specific. If I am paying the same price as everyone else for the workouts I expect the same functionality with whatever brand name I choose. (Some of us are not iPOD users!!!!!!!!!)

Maybe not now but, eventually, I think the technology is going to go this way.

Great. I was under the impression from somewhere that while any mp3 player would do, the workouts would play best on an iPOD. I stand corrected. Thanks :)
