STS and Running

I'm a runner (training for half and full marathon), and just bought a bike to train for a sprint-tri. Additionally, I take a cardio class once a week (interval training), and a spin once a week. I keep track of it all in a training log.

How can I incorporate my cardio into the STS system? I currently strength train 2-3 days week, and I am thinking about buying the STS System to switch my strength training. But, I'm not sure if it's for me b/c I already do cardio on my own and I see the DVD’s include cardio. Would like to try it, what package would be good for me?

By the way, I of Catha’s 2 leg DVD’s, and a couple of upper body DVD’s that are great.

Thank you for the advice.

STS Strength is an entire set by itself and STS Cardio can be purchased as either a set or individual DVDs.

STS Strength is an awesome system to add to your marathon/half marathon training. It's three DVDs per week (2 upperbody/1 lowerbody) for twelve weeks. So it will fit right into the schedule you already have now if you strength train three days a week.

STS Cardio can be used as cross-training on days you don't run or as an add on to your cardio. I like to add one of the HIIT workouts after an STS Strength workout for a little added burn (the HIITs are short...a little less than 30 minutes each).

I hope that gives you some ideas on how to use STS Strength and STS Cardio with your running. Good luck on your races! :)

Kathy,

Thank you for the advice and including your running experience. You have helped me with my purchase and training.

I wish you the best with your running!

Glad I could help, Tammy. I just started another round of STS (along with running) and I'm really enjoying it. You'll have to check back and let us know how you like STS and how you do on your races. :)

good luck w/ your mar & half mar trg! i am a cyclist and trail runner. just a caution abt when you do the leg STS workouts. you may have to plan them around your longer runs or even eliminate them all together or just do a revised version of the workout. in trg for endurance cycling events my coach suggested I keep my leg workouts to cycling only, but could add in some exercises such as glute bridge or maybe some floorwork to complement the leg strength I was getting from my cycling workouts. i'm thinking for running that you may find the same thing.

for me, it was best to do the STS upper body workouts full on and then do a very revised version of the STS legs (i think the firewalkers are great!) until my races were done.

when I am doing leg workouts, i find it i easier to fit them in on the same day as a 1.5-2 hr bike ride or a spin class rather than the day before or after that. my long ride are typically on the weekend so I usually do not do a big leg workout late in the week.

i hope you will post up later when you have had a chance to try STS alongside your running!
