+++>STS 6 month alumni Week of June 6<+++

Hi Again! I'm packing up to leave work and head to the gym!

RACHEL!!! I would be in heaven to have all those vegetables!!! Oh my gosh, you can make a nice stir fry and somewhere...I'll have to look, but somewhere I have a recipe for watermelon salsa! Have you ever had that? Oh, it is so good! I don't know what the Dr will do about my foot, I just know they said come back in the 3 weeks! And I always do what I'm told - except for when I don't! LOL! I'm glad to hear you've been doing some relaxing! A girl needs a little down time! What's important is that you're ENJOYING your time off! ;)

Cendrine, oohhh sounds like you had an enjoyable workout! Do you have a weighted vest? You could always walk with one of those. I had bought Cathe's 10 lb'er and use it on the trail once in a while (also used it more before I bought the tower). Probably being less stressful will really help your back too. It's amazing how stress can make you tighten.

Alrighty...got to go do the TM 40 min interval! Howdy Doody Kim!

Finished my Insanity workout, at least today was only the cardio recovery workout. Only 2 more workouts till recovery week! Tomorrow I have to cover the burn unit including the ICU beds, I hate covering the burn unit. It's just such a terrible place. There are some awful stories up in the ICU. The 3 therapists that usually work there are attending the World Burn Survivor Conference which is being held locally as our hospital has one of the main burn units in Canada. Not looking forward to it but wanted to support them to go to the conference

Jo I 'mbusy watching yesterday's "Losing it With Jillian" as I type. Enjoying it so far. The handymen didn't quite finish they still have a few jobs left. Not sure when they'll be back but we haven't paid them and they left lots of equipment here so they will be back. I'm enjoying Insanity, they are good solid cardio workouts but just not lots of variety to them. Glad that you had such a good spinning class hopefully the dr. can give you more of a solution.

Rachael Not sure what I'll do after the Insanity workouts. I still have 5 weeks left. Sometimes Cathe puts out a shorter rotation for July that would be fun. I'm sure that your heat would wipe me right out. I don't do well in heat. The veggies sound wonderful, it's going to a while till my garden is mature enough.

Cendrine I love the idea of a porch hammock. Hopefully you get lots of time to sit and enjoy it.I'm sure the kids will be excited to be done school. My kids finished June 30th. DS is in Grade 7 and so has exams all next week so he is busy studying. You could maybe use a cardio coach for walking on the tm.

:DI always do as I'm told- except for when I don't:D That's hilarious, Jo! LOL! I could have said that! I didn't think about the lower stress level maybe helping me with my back recovery, I like the thought of that! I don't have the vest, was going to get it but chiro does not recommend it. The only thing she recommends are handweights, not even wristweights...must have to do with what she knows about bones and alignment and muscle tension and all... I have thought about it though.

Wow, Kim, you are brave! I would not like to work on the burn unit either! But how kind of you to support your other therapists! Our garden won't have much to show for a while either, we are at the flower stage for some plants but not all. There is one ear of corn forming... that's it...LOL!
I might pull out cardio coach again for walking and see if it doesn't frustrate me too much to not be running it.... I do like Cardio coach, so if I can make it work for walking that would be a welcome change! I was just thinking of you as we are planning a couple of weekend caming trips this summer... My Family Fun magazine says that marshmallow cream and nutella beats the marshmallows and hershey chocolate for making smores....Do you ever make them when camping? We won't be doing anything big, but a fire just belongs with camping and ds will be in heaven just sticking a stick into the fire...LOL!

Rachel,
In case you're interested, this is the watermelon salsa recipe I made. Only, I used more cilantro and added some garlic. I think those were my main modifications. It's better if it chills for a couple of hours. I think I made it one time and put in just a little bit of pineapple, not much, just a tad...it might have been when I had a flavorless watermelon! :D I originally made this to put on cod.

http://www.eatingwell.com/recipes/watermelon_salsa.html

Kim, ooh working in the burn unit would be tough! Wow, you really are exposed to a lot of things in your work! I think it takes special people to do what you do and I commend you for that! It must be very emotionally draining at times. But of course, you must also get a lot of gratification out of helping people! I'll bet you're really looking forward to your recovery week.

Cendrine, :D yeah, maybe the vest would be challenging for your posture and not good for your situation. CC might be fun to try but I know it does make you want to step it up! So did she say you could carry one pound weights?

Time to go make a salad.

Can you say rain ,Rain RAIN! OK isn't it funny that you can get to much of a good thing! How is that even possible?LOL Apparently it is way to dry for all this rain at once so now we are under flash flood warnings. Of course that does not really affect us where we are living but I am sure it might affect the garden a little. The verdict will be out until it is over. Any hoo...I still got up early even though I am not sure what I can do in this weather. I am stalling right now cause it is 40/20 today and then chest:eek: My legs are already talking to me from s&h legs yesterday so I am trying to give them time to wake up.

Jo-Good luck at the Dr. today. Hopefully they will be able to shed more light on what the problem is today since you changed your shoes and it is still bothering you.
The watermelon salsa sounds great. I think my FIL is growing 3 different kinds of watermelons, so when they are ripe we will be knee deep in them!

Cendrine-I too did not think of the stress factor and the relation to when you might be feeling worse. Sometimes Jo hits the nail right on the head.:D
So when yall camp,do you tent it or what? I just loved to camp when I was a kid. Of course we always camped by the water so it was swimming all day and weeny roasts all night. It was just so much fun! The only time we were allowed to play with fire;)

Kim-I am pulling for you to make it to your recovery week. It always helps me to count it down too. When your tired , two more doesn't sound that bad!lol
In my opinion( and that does not mean much), burns are the worst injuries there are. It is a very complicated injury because it always gets worse before it gets better and infection is something that can be detrimental! We had one of our employees get burned doing something very stupid! It did not take very long to do a lot of damage. Now you see all these stupid shows promoting kids or teens to do all these jackass type stunts and they just don't really show the reality of how bad an accident could hurt some one!

OK guess I have stalled enough...If I wait any longer the rain might lull be back to bed!

Work out Done !!! Woo hoo!

I was really working them chesticles...DH calls them that...I have no idea why! But any how it was a great tough workout and Now I am ready to tackle the day!
I have some energy to spread!

Jo, I might just try that watermelon salsa myself! A couple of years ago someone got me to make watermelon salad, I wonder if it's similar. It hat feta in it and onions, can't remember what else, but it was way good, even though no one else would touch it...LOL
Chiro lets me use 3lb weights, I used them today for a burn and firm pilates workout and it really got me sweating and is helping me be more aware of the powerhouse. It was a good workout.

Rachel, it's good you got rain, but I hope it is not going to cause any damage! Good job doing your workout!

Last night I had a real hankering for a cookie, so I modified a soso healthy cookie recipe and made it really fun. It was originally a Quinoa cookie with sucanat and coconut oil, I remember from the past that a quarter cup sucanat was not enough to make it earn the name cookie, so I doubled that, added some vanilla and some chopped 80% dark chocolate and sprinkled with coconut shavings. It hit the spot!

Now I have got a wholeweat fruit bread in the oven. I think I will find myself baking a lot in the next few weeks, it seems I didn't get my fix lately and now I suddenly feel like trying all these yummy and healthy breads. Since my whole family is carb happy, I won't have any trouble finding tasters....LOL!

Oh I want to come taste too, Cendrine! Yum...It all sounds so good! I love to bake but since there are only two of us it is dangerous around here! There would be a lot of wolfing down and the tasting would be secondary! LOL

I had a fairly productive day but not overwhelming by any means! I rearranged the living room a little to coincide a little better with the mudroom. I really need to do some decorating. The sad part is, I took some pictures off the wall that I was going to put somewhere else and the wall was way lighter behind the pictures. I did not even think about the UV light and the effect that it has on the walls. So now I have light rectangles where the wall hangings used to be. I googled it and people said that it takes a little while but that the walls will blend themselves. It kind of looks like we moved into someone elses house and they removed old photos or something. Oh well I will be changing things up and seeing how I like it anyway for a while so maybe it will all blend.

I forgot to tell yall that I ordered HSTA and HSC. I watched the clips and realized I do not have any workouts like these so of course I had to get them. But I am not sure if they are going to make it in time for me to fit them in on the right day next week. HSTA is supposed to be on Tuesday and the other on Thurs so I might have to juggle something. I am gonna miss being able to workout for however long the rotation calls for but next week it will be back to a more scheduled one hr at the most workout. Boo Hoo!
LOL

Better go and get dinner started. It is going to be a sort of potato hash with peppers and turkey sausage and then eggs and bacon for DH so kind of a modified breakfast for dinner. Yum!

Hi Guys! Quick post...I just got back from the Dr and he gave me a shot in the heel. Then I go back in a month. He said generally for this type of issue, the shot will fix it but it is possible it will take a couple of shots. He said it's one of those weird nagging problems! The shot was a steriod plus numbing agent. Also, this is Resort Night and he said as long as spinning or running or whatever I do doesn't bother me then to go ahead and do whatever I want. He said it's not like when they give people injections in their back and they don't want them moving around for a day or two. So that's good! :p

BBL!

Busy day here for me! I survived the day covering the burn ward. I have worked on the wards but switch to the outpatient department about 8 years ago. It's funny how nothing has really changed over them. Everything and everyone seemed exactly the same:rolleyes: Nice to see some staff members that I don't see very often even if I'm only in the next building over. I spent quite a bit of time in the ICU's and what a way to remind yourself how lucky you are.:(:(

Finished my Insanity workout. I don't know if I'll have time to post tomorrow as will be coming home from work, doing Insanity, cooking supper and packing up the camper. Then we have to drive up to the campground and setup. One of ds's friend is coming with us as well. We'll be back Sunday afternoon.

Jo I sure hope that the injection helps. Part of the reson I switched from working on the wards was because of how emotionally hard it was. Much easier to deal with fracures, tendonitis etc. Although like today I took a phone call from a current patient who was complaining about his broken finger for 20 mins on the phone (it's stiff not painful) while I was sitting in the burn unit. I finally cut him off and said to come see me tomorrow. I find it's hard to switch back and forth.

Cendrine I've already bought the S'mores ingredients and stuff for banana boats. Banana boats: put a slice in a banana stuff with marshmallows and chocolate, wrap the banana in tin foil and put over the fire. Eat with a spoon.

Rachael I saw the flash flood warnings on the news! Has the rain stopped yet??

Oh I almost forgot. Good news, the house people called today and we are on the next schedule and the steel was delivered today. That means it will be started within the next 2 weeks. They put out the schedule for the next 2 weeks at a time.

Kim, I can see how it would be hard to listen to a person with a broken finger when you are working with burn patients! what a contrast! Kind of puts things in perspective, I bet!

So Banana boats is what you call it! I knew about this but didn't know what you call it and we used to do chocolates and nuts instead of marshmallows. Thanks for reminding me about those, with all the smores stuff I forgot about the bananas...

Jo, I do hope you'll get relief with the shot, that would be wonderful! So nice that you get to do your usual routine even with the shot!

Hi Everyone!

Oh last night was FUN! GF (with the big weightloss) has had to miss the last couple of nights as her 3 yr old came down with pnemonia! So the other GF and I, instead of doing weights & ab work after spinning (and before water aerobics) went down to the juice bar and shared a berry smoothie. I had never tried one and it was pretty good (glad we SHARED one)...the one we had supposedly didn't have tons of calories but it almost tasted too delicious to not be decadent! Of course I haven't had anything like that in over a year. Anyway, it was a nice change, then we went to water aerobics and there was only 4 of us. So the class was very intimate and we all did a lot of chatting while running in the water LOL! Oh and then of course we finished up the night with the therapy pool, sauna and finally a steam! LOVED IT!!!!

After all that, my heel wasn't bother at all so I'm feeling positive this shot will work. I did try doing a downward dog and that ain't happening yet, but I didn't feel it at all in water aerobics which is where I do seem to feel it more.

Kim, hope you have a great weekend! Glad things went well in the burn unit and you got to reconnect with some old coworkers! YAHOO on the house progress. It will be fun to go out and watch the construction progress! Kids will probably love it!

Rachel, I cannot WAIT for you to get HSTA and try it! I love your comment about Chesticles! That's a good one! LOL! Oh yeah forgot to mention we did tons of weight work in the pool last night with the water dumbbells and my chest is fried! Boy that water resistance gets ya!

Cendrine, I've had that salsa with the feta. That might actually be in that site of the link I sent. I thought it was good, but alot of people are anti-feta! LOL! Your cookies sounds really good! Oh and I'm glad you can use the 3 lb weights! It is amazing isn't it how a little weight can go a long way! I was thinking how the water aerobics we do might be good for you too.

Okay, enough chatter, I must get going. I woke up thinking today was Saturday and went back to sleep. Then woke up a half hour later and realized I HAVE to get to work!:cool: I'll do Supersets when I get home since I was such a lazy girl this morning. It's still raining....

Hi All!

Jo, you will never qualify for a lazy girl...LOL! After everything you did last night, you are quite fine taking it easier today! I'm glad your heel went along with everything. The smoothie sounds super fun, and yes, I am sure the wateraerobics would be great for me. But for now I just don't have the time to go to a gym. When the kids are older and can be at home by themselves, then I might just want to give it a try. But I will try doing some laps at the community pool here when I take the kids to the pool. That should be good too.
It is very amazing how just 3lbs can make you work that much harder on a cardio! I'm quite impressed and am looking at those 3lbs in a whole new light now that I have used them for cardio....:D

Walk for me today, then grocery shopping and packing up dh and ds for a tiger cup cabin camping weekend. Schools officially out!!!!!!

Sorry so late today.

I am having a whirl wind of a day. I hit the ground running this morning. The rotation called for a steady state run so I did Step Works (a real oldie) I am not sure that I had ever done that one and it was a lot of fun. Then it was triceps. I am loving the S&H. It does take a lot of concentration but it also gives you time to concentrate!

We have to wait on a repairman for the phone today. Get this, he will be here between 8am and 9pm! ugghh ! I really hate that.
So DH has been spiffing up the yard while we wait and I have been to town and back and now trying to get the house straightened.

Jo-Wow...You were really going to put that Dr. to the test huh? lol I am glad after everything that you did not have any heel pain! The smoothie sounds like the ones my old gym used to offer up. They never tasted too healthy to me either but they swore that they were!

Cendrine-Yippee! Schools out and a girl weekend! How fun. Any special things planned with dd? Did you ever get your budget for the porch?

Kim-I know you are well on your way to camping! ;)

Better go..I left dh working by himself! lol

Good morning Yall

Quick in and out for me. I have a b-day lunch with my gf today so I gotta get going.

This mornings workout was the short premix of drill max and s&h bi's. I just got done and my arms are still shaking!lol I was supposed to do some abs but yesterday dh and I were moving some stuff and I tweaked my back lifting something. It wasn't anything heavy, it was just the angle I was standing, I think! ughh!

Seeing as how I have totally procrastinated anything that could have gotten me ahead when we went back to work, this should be a hugely busy weekend for me:rolleyes:. I always do that to myself.

Oh yea I forgot. Have yall seen about the place that got flooded in Arkansas? (Albert's Pike) We always go there. That is our go to quick get away. It is such a tragic thing.

I better go get my arms to stop wiggling!

TTYL
Rachel

Rachel, I was going to ask you if that was near where you go? That is awful and thank goodness you weren't there! That's very tragic!

It's supposed to be in the 70's today! So we should be outside working in the yard, but we're thinking we're going to go play somewhere, doing something, but we have no idea what! Anywho, I'm skipping the gym, going to do some cleaning up here and then we're going....somewhere! I'm not sure if I'll squeeze in a workout or bag it today. I'm supposed to do KPC but I could push everything out a day. Well, enough talk - need to do something! LOL!

Rachel, enjoy your lunch! Cendrine, yahoo on school being done!!! Kim, hope you're having a good time!

Hi Everyone!

well, the boys are off having fun and us girls are enjoying our alone time! Dd got to sleep in our bed last night for a special treat, which she loved.... I didn't so much, she is quite the mover...LOL!
I had to go to a volunteer training for ds' tiger cup day camp and was able to have a neighbor girl whom dd loves watch her for the time. Then dd and I baked cherry pies, made healthy ice cream, painted our toes and had lunch. Dd wants to paint this afternoon, so we'll probably stay in. I was going to take her to the mall, but if she is happy hanging out with me at home I take it! LOL!
I decided to take a rest from working out today too, just feel kind of out of it. Tomorrow I am doing a Pilates workout specifically supposed to help with back problems. I hope it delivers! LOL

Jo, I saw that the weather was just going to be what I like to call "PERFECT" in your neck of the woods this weekend so I hope you are living it up. I don't blame you one bit for just making your workout and and outside adventure today! I hope you are having a great time.

Cendrine, It seems like you and dd are having a fun girl weekend. How did those cherry pies turn out???yum! And homemade ice cream on top of that! Is there anything that says summer more than that? Well Maybe strawberry shortcake is right up there with that too!
You know I can not remember the last time I painted my toenails. I have the ugliest feet that my dad blessed me with so I try not to draw any attention to them whatsoever! LOL

Girl lunch turned into girl dlunch...We did not get to the restaurant until around 2 and gf pick a sort of sports bar...Well unless you live under a rock (like I think she does sometimes;)), you should know that today is world cup day! Needless to say there were lots of surprise yells that scared us to death since we were not paying attention to the game. It was really funny! I do not think there was a time that we did not just about jump out of our seat when the whole restaurant erupted in cheers or boos! We had a great time but there was not too many healthy things to choose from on the menu so I am not sure what my chicken wrap consist of but I devoured it because by the time we ate I was literally starving! lol Oh well tomorrow is another day right!
Not too much going on the rest of the day. Just waiting for dh to get home and tell me how their short movie shoot went.

I better go start some of those preparations that I have put off!
