<---STS 6 Month Alumni---> Week of June 13

Well yesterday ended up being very enjoyable as DH and I spent the day together! We went to a couple of farmers markets to get fresh produce and then went down to the Sound by one of the ferry docks and walked some. The beach we went to is where the scuba divers go in and there were lots of people there. Now, mind you, the Puget Sound is freezing cold so people generally only wade out up to their knees! LOL! Anyway, but as is typical it is windy down there so you still needed a sweatshirt. But it was a gorgeous day! Then we came home, by way of the butcher shop  (he's close by). The butcher shop is all organic free range meat. We got a couple of steaks that DH grilled and I made us a steamed kale vegetable medley. I also made some watermelon salsa! We picked up a watermelon at one of the farmers markets. It's still early so it doesn't have tons of flavor but it is fine for the salsa. Today is back in the 60's so we're going to work in the yard. In case you're interested, we have the largest ferry system in the nation here. We have several islands around here that people live on. (There's your geography for the day.) Besides you can take a ferry to Victoria B.C.

Cendrine, how did your painted toes turn out? LOL! How fun you girls had some quality time together! I hope the Pilates class is beneficial for you.

Rachel, I was laughing about the sports bar! But, at least you and GF got to enjoy some time together! I also think you're active enough that whatever was in the chicken wrap is already worked off! LOL! No worse than the steak I ate last night!

Okay, off to make use of myself! I slept too long today!

Good afternoon!

Today has been up and down and all around! First I had to get some things going around here, laundry and granola, and then DH wanted to watch a movie...Appaloosa ..I just love a good western and who doesn't love Ed Harris! Then I was up again trying to figure out a good marinade for the chicken I am brining. I saw this thing on how to keep chicken breast from drying out while they grill. I think it was 2 T of kosher salt to 4 cups of water. Mix together and let the water clear and then add to your chicken. Let brine for 3 to 6 hrs then rinse. Then I guess you do whatever you were going to do to them. At least that is what I did anyhow. One batch is a garlic lime marinade and the other is a southwestern marinade. I did not have the exact ing.s for the sw marinade so I improvised and I hope that one turns out good. I will let yall know if I end up with juicy chicken or just salty chicken...lol

We are back to work tomorrow and I know it is going to be so super hard to get up in the morning but it is circuit week so there is no excuses. I have to get my butt out of bed and get them done. I have not got any tracking info on HSTA or HSC so I am not sure if they have even shipped yet. I have no clue what I could sub for either of those. Any suggestions?

Jo-The walk down to the sound sounds wonderful! As well as the weather and the farmer's market. I wish we had a good one around here but the closest is in Louisiana. Only about 50 min. but we don't get over that way too much. I think it is only on select weekends too.
I was going to ask How is the weather in late Aug. or early sept?

Cendrine-I know you must be having a great time with dd! Every time I make the granola I think about you! haha Thanks again for that recipe. I do not know what I ever did without it!

Kim-Hope you had great weather for camping! Can't wait to hear about it!

Better go. I have no clue why except for the fact that I am chattered out.LOL

Rachel the granola recipe is a keeper for us as well, something we will always have on hand! I'm glad you like it too! Your marinades sound wonderful! I just made the salmon salad with asparagus and blackberries from the CE magazine, delish! Dh raved about it as well. The kids ate it because they know they won't get anything else....LOL! They both aren't too crazy about salads, but they eat them. :D In answer to your question about what to sub for the dvds you're waiting for, I'd say any other circuit DVD you've got might do the trick, possibly the bootcamp one, comes to mind, or even a 4DS circuit workout. How is your back? I forgot to ask earlier, I hope you recovered well.

Jo, sounds like you had a great time out yesterday! I love getting fresh produce and good quality meats! Makes eating so much more enjoyable! Dh's family has a house on the puget sound somewhere... don't ask me where exactly... We went there by ferry once before we had kids and dh got lots of oysters (not my thing...) There was a super bad landslide a couple of years ago that completely destroyed the property and they are trying to get some kind of compensation, since the landslide was from accross the street and they think it should have been secured better by the authorities... I'm not sure that they will get anything, and I don't think the insurance covers this kind of stuff either, but they have started rebuilding plans all the same. It's a shame especially because they had just spent quite some money making a nice patio overseeing the water. If all gets built well, we'll probably take the kids there some day as I know for sure ds would love it.

Dh and ds are home and everyone is napping LOL! They got to do zip lines and archery, canoeing and lots of other fun stuff as well as the campfire experience and all that, so it was enjoyable for them. Dh said some wives showed up too, so maybe next year we'll all go, I know dd would enjoy being in the middle of things....;)

I went to the training for the day camp coiming up in a couple of weeks. looks like we will have to leave the house pretty early to be there in time, it will be a busy week with long days, so I may just skip workouts that week to feel less pressed for time, I will be on my feet all day watching out for 10-15 tigers, so I'm sure that will keep me active to some extent....

My rosehip supplements got here yesterday, the ones that are supposed to be so potent that people are able to get off their atniinflammatories... Started them yesterday. I have had a pretty good week, the chiro did something slightly different with the therapy combos and I have felt better longer than I have in a long time. Whatever she did, I want her to do it again next week! LOL!

Kim, I'm sure you are busy getting situated back at home after your weekend away. I hope you had lots of fun!

Home again! Goodness the weekend goes fast! We had fun. The weather was cool but only a little drizzle so okay for camping. It worked out well having ds bring a friend. The kids had a blast hiking, swimming, bonfires, etc. The only bad thing was dd started a little stomach something late last night. At 2 am as I was trying to wash the vomit out of her hair, sleeping bag and pillow using the sink in the camper (think 6" big) it wasn't so much fun. We were only 30 mins from home, I jumped in the car with her and drove home. Gave her a good shower and put her to bed. Around lunch we drove out and got the boys. She's better today but very quiet.
Just did the Insanity Cardio Core and Recovery which is the dvd that is used all week.
Sorry, quick post for me, I'm exhausted and have lots to do.

Rachael I did hear about the terrible flash flood down your way! good luck with the job tomorrow.

Cendrine Sounds like ds and DH had lots of fun! That would be fun to go next time. What a nice time with dd!

Jo What a beautiful area you must live in! I have been to Vancouver Island. Enjoy that nice weather!

Hey guys...Quick in and out before getting ready for bed!

Cendrine-The back thing was so weird. It was a pain I can't explain and then it seemed to make my butt cheek sore on that side. I am not sure if it even coincided but it was all on the same side.
I had turkey burgers and stuffed baby poblanoes for dinner so I did not even taste the chicken and I am way too full to be a good judge right now. The poblanoes were good but it was my first try and I think i could do better.

Kim-That is unfortunate that dd got sick but thankfully you were not too far from home and you could drive her there to finish the clean up. I am sure it was not very fun to try to clean up in the tiny sink! I am impressed that you came home and got a workout in. Are you on recovery week now?

Jo-You must be enjoying the great weather!

So sounds like everyone had a good weekend! Oh Kim, I'm so sorry about dd; oh I bet she was miserable! (Not to mention Mom! ;)) Well good you weren't far from home and could get her home to her own bed.

Rachel, I agree with Cendrine, you could substitute most any of the circuits. Bootcamp is good or you could do Low Impact Circuit or my beloved Drill Max! :D Oh how I love that workout. You could also do one off of SJP/SB premix. You got lots of options! Can't wait to hear how the chicken turns out! I've never fixed poblanos - what did you do with them? Also, I'm glad your back is okay! You don't need a back issue with your line of work!

Cendrine, so now you are the Mama Tiger! :p Or are you the RingMaster? LOL! That should be a very fun week for you! Well your boys had a good weekend! That sounds like some good boy time! Let me know how this goes with the Rosehips. I have to tell you I don't like these anti-inflammatories. They're not horrible but they do zap my energy a little and bother my stomach a little. Neither symptom is bad just kind of nagging and annoying. In fact today I was contemplating not taking them any more.

So no workout for me again today but I'm not feeling bad about it. I think I needed a break to really get things done. So we had our play day yesterday, then today DH cleaned the roof, the gutters, power washed all the decks, the driveway, washed our vehicles...(I know there's more). I cleaned our bathroom (complete with removing showers doors), bedroom, changed bedding, vacuumed rooms, crevices, stairs, washed all my workout equipment and mats, cleaned a closet, did laundry. Then DH smoked a salmon and grilled Mahi Mahi (we put my watermelon salsa on it - YUM!) and I made kale soup for lunches this week. Whew! I feel accomplished! I didn't get a shower until 4:30! I still haven't made the granola! I have got to get that on my list to do! And I still never got that CE Magazine, I'll have to call them tomorrow. I've only received one and it was the April/May issue.

I'm settling in now for the evening and going to figure out what I'm going to do to get back on track with my workouts. Hope you all have a good day tomorrow! It was a GREAT weekend!

Hi Ho Hi HO Its back to work I go!
And in keeping with back to work first day fashion I am already behind..LOL

Thanks for the suggestions...It's funny LIC was today and I think Bootcamp is Fri! SO yall are right on target. I am thinking I might switch it up a little and do B&G tomorrow. Kind of hoping my stuff will come in but I am almost sure it won't. Oh well, I shall adapt!

I will catch up with yall after work today. It should just be sort of a get a feel for the job day so not too hard!

Hi Everyone!

Kim, I'm so sorry about dd getting sick! I agree with Jo though, how nice you were able to go home and clean up the right way! Ds came home with a cold from camp and chapped lips....:( How is she feeling now?

Jo, you accomplished a ton! that must feel so good! I'm going to tackle some good house cleaning this summer myself. I will definitely shampoo all the carpets and weed through all the toys to see what we have not used in a while. I already pulled out all our arts and crafts and science fun experiments to do this summer, it will keep the kids busy and it will cut down some of the clutter feel that the accumulation of all these projects that we never get to during the school year gives. I hope we can get through a lot of it so I have some space again... I am also going to tackle the scrapbook and see how far I can get there. But right now, I am going to hit the treadmill....
I will let you know abou the rosehip, I'm taking double strength this week as recommended and then will go to regular strength next week and will let you know when I can tell a difference. My mom said it might take a month or two, so we shall see.

Rachel, B&G should be a fun one to do instead of the dvds you don't have yet. That one is a toughie.

Well, off to workout I go!

Woo! WHat a day! I was a little off about what the day would be like! We were able to get started demoing the carpet and it was kind of stuck! I am tough but I am not that great with pulling out glued down carpet! We have a machine that we use but we did not bring it today since we thought we wouldn't be doing too much but I will guarantee that it is on the truck tomorrow! LOL
So I have been sweaty and covered in grit the whole day so it is nice to come home and shower and get under the ceiling fan!

I am going to have to see how hard this job is before I can commit to another rotation. Mine ends this week but because it was a tough one, I was going to take a little bit of a recovery week on weights for sure but I will have to evaluate how I am feeling by week 3 of this job. I might cut down to 4 or 5 days a week until we are done. Right now I will play it by ear.

Jo-Wow, I think you did get a workout in with all that cleaning! It must be like your spring cleaning time right now. I get like that when the weather gets nice enough around here to open the windows. Unfortunately now it is so hot that you barely want to go out and if you do ,it wipes you out! I do not see how people who work outside around here survive! The chicken trick seemed to workout pretty good. I will have to try it a couple of times just to make sure it was not a fluke but the chicken breast were still relatively juicy today and you know left over chicken breast are normally really dry.
The poblanoes were not healthy at all. I cored them out and then I make a mix of 1/3 less fat cream cheese:)rolleyes:) garlic and some other spices and then wrapped them in bacon and put them in an aluminum muffin tin,. ( I flipped it over and cut holes in the individual cups) I fixed them in there so they would stand up and then just put them on the grill. The whole method worked really well so I am sure I could play around with the stuffing and make it healthy.

Cendrine-What was your workout today? B&G is a toughie but I am talking myself into it. The crazy thing about this rotation is that I have 40/20 again this week! I love the Hiits but that one is hard! I do think though since I have been doing those that I have built up some much needed endurance. I am lacking that in the cardio department but I feel that I am improving.

Kim- I hope you had a great Monday! I know almost and oxymoron , right? LOL

I am off to feed the beast...the beast being me since I am ravenous today after all that carpet pulling!

Not feeling very good today. Not sure if it's from lack of sleep on the weekend or if I have a touch of what dd had. Left work a little early. DH and I did do the Insanity recovery workout tonight. I really like this workout. Rachael, there is one workout that you're supposed to use everyday of recovery week. I thought no way would I do the same workout 6 days in a row but I really like it. It's a unique mixture of light cardio, stretches and standing muscle work.

Jo Good for you for getting all the household chores in! I'm sure that was a good workout!

Rachael I hope your workouts come in time for you to do them this week! I love new workouts. What a way to start the week! Hope the machine helps alot tomorrow! I think you and I both need a lighter rotation after our current ones;)

Cendrine DD was very lethargic all day yesterday hardly heard a peep from her but she seems okay today. How's your ds?? You have some big plans for the summer!

Well, another long day at the office! Had some issues to take care of and then planned to go to the gym but got stuck on the phone and just got home from work about 7:30 (20 minutes ago) so no workout! So just a short note as I need to go fix a salad.

Rachel, oh the poblanoes sounds DECADENTLY wonderful! So is this another big job for you guys? Take advantage of that recovery week!

Cendrine, yes do keep me posted about the rosehips. I'll be very interested in how they work for you....I hope they do!

Kim, hope you're okay...you're not supposed to be sick in June! Glad dd is better.

Forgive the short post...I must eat! :p

Well no workout for me this morning...I went to sleep with a weird throat thing, not really sore in the traditional sense, and then started waking up with an occasional stabbing pain in my eat in addition to the throat thing. When I did get up the ear has not hurt but the throat feels the same. So needless to say interrupted sleep and kind of a tough day today did not make me want to spring out of bed this morning.

We are taking 2 guys this morning to help get the rest of the upstairs pulled up so maybe we can get that part over with. Can't say that that doesn't make me happy.

Gotta Go

Hope you all have a great day!

Happy Tuesday! Today I have appointment with a new sinus Dr. Not sure if I had mentioned this before or not, but made the appt quite a while back as I wanted another opinion and a Dr closer to home. I've kind of gotten to the point where I felt my Dr wasn't giving me enough information and I wanted a "different set of eyes" so to speak. And, after they lost my lab results last fall (I know these things happen) I just thought I'd like to try someone different and get a fresh perspective.

Anywho, other than that, spinning tonight followed by Losing it with Jullian! :D Not much else to report.

Hope everyone's day is going well! Rachel, hope you're not catching something! Several people in my office had this "lite" summer cold but only lasted a couple of days.

Rachel, sorry you had a bad night and got that sore throat thing! So annoying! I'm glad you are taking it easy! And it's nice you get some help on the job today, too!

Ds' cold is a little better, he was up last night complaining about not being able to breathe through his nose, but he eventually did fall asleep and seems fine during the day.

I did a very gentle pilates workout today (I'm basically trying out all the instant play available titles from Netflix) But it was a long one so I feel like I did enough time....

The kids and I made fake snow from a kit and made snowmen and igloos with it... it's pretty cool stuff that shrinks when it dries and increases when you add water so you can keep using it. (that part, I was hoping to declutter, but because it appears to be reusable, I feel I can't toss it after using it once... so much for the decluttering....LOL) We also did some experiments, one was measuring our lung capacity by blowing water out of a bottle, it was fun, but the tube was too thin, so we still had air to blow out but it wouldn't go out fast enough before we needed more air....

Oh, almost forgot, I made the chicken, spinach, mushroom crepes last night for dinner and they turned out better than I had expected, really yummy, everyone thought so. The only thing is that it takes some time to make the crepes, but other than that, a really good meal!

Jo, I totally understand why you would want a new doctor looking at you if you feel like you are not getting anywhere with the other one. Sometimes a new perspective helps you find something that works that you might not have otherwise found out about. I hope he has some options for you that are easy and efficient! This is how I managed to get off thyroid meds. I don't remember if I ever told you that I was sent to an endicronologist after having ds because of an enlarged thyroid. They did a biopsy and got a lot of fluid out, then he put me on thyroid meds even though my bloodwork never showed anything and I was not diagnosed with anything. He also said that once I was on thyroid meds I was going to be on it for life. My thyroid did not act up after that and I faithfully took the meds until I started seeing my chiro about 3 yrs later. While waiting in her office I saw a chart that listed all the bodyfunctions that can be helped by adjusting various vertabrae. One was targeting the thyroid. So I got curious and I asked her if she things my thyroid was going to be working normally now that she was regularly adjusting it... Having not been diagnosed she agreed to monitor me reducing my dose and slowly weaning myself off the meds. Three months after being off completely she did a bloodtest and my numbers were whinin normal range and have been and my thyroid has not been enlarged since. It's not that I was having any bad symptoms from getting the meds but I just don't like to take anything longterm that I don't have to....So I'm happy I got my chiro's input and supervision on experimenting getting off it.

Well, better go get some stuff done while the kids are down. We have our end of year tiger cub party today and I'm bringing a bean pesto dip with veggies (probably the only healthy thing there tonight...);)

Kim, I hope you are all back to normal! I was impressed that even though you weren't feeling well, you still did your workout!

Well it was not so good day.
I am having this weird head ear thing. The thing is that is not pain the whole time just a shooting pain from my the top of my head and then stabbing in my ear. I really can not explain it. I am hoping it is some kind of tension thing. Maybe from the pulling yesterday or the stress of the new job. The pain is pretty bad when it happens. If it were to last more than a few seconds at a time each, I would definitely cry.
Sorry to be a down bringer.
I feel like such a wiener when I know Jo gets migraines with constant pain.
I will TTYT
Rachel

Rachel, pain is pain, don't feel like you are allowed to complain about it! I'm so sorry that you are having this weird thing! Can you go see a doctor or maybe go to a walk-in clinic? Sure sounds like something I would want taken care of. If you think it was from the pulling, maybe a chiro could help. You are quite the trooper to make it through your day working with this going on!

Oh Rachael go get that ear checked out if it's not better tomorrow. The worst thing is being at work while sick.

Nothing exciting here. Did the Insanity recovery dvd for the third day in a row. DD and I are both feeling better. DS and DH went to the ZZtop concert.

The fake igloos sound like fun! The still really make igloos up north of here when they're out hunting. Quite amazing to see.

What did the new dr say Jo?? I often encourage patients to get a second opinion if they don't feel comfortable with their doctor. Nothing wrong with it. Losing it with Jillian was not on as the Obama was speaking:(

RACHEL YOU ARE NOT A WEINER!!! (Or a Whiner! :p) I agree with Kim and Cendrine, go get that checked out if it's not better! And remember we are all here to share in our woes and our triumphs so it's fine to say what you're feeling! It's uncomfortable if it hurts! I also don't think you should mess around with ear issues! I hope you are better tomorrow!

Cendrine, WOW SNOW! That sounds like fun! What in the world is the material it's made from? Glad DS is better. Interesting story about your thyroid. That's why we have to take control of our health and check all these things out! Glad you were able to get off the meds!

Kim, glad you're doing better - I guess if you're not feeling 100% it was good that this was a recovery week for you. I did get to watch Jillian and it was a good episode - mother and two daughters. ZZTop??? Oh I bet that's FUN!

By the way, my CE magazine FINALLy came today! Scheesch! Alright, so I liked the Dr. My other Dr didn't send any of my records so he is having to start from scratch. So today he did to the endoscopy where they put the scope in my sinuses and look around (I've had it done several times before so no big deal). Then he took a culture and prescribed some antibiotics. He wants me to come back in two weeks when I'm cleared up and then he'll do a baseline CAT scan. He said it looks like I may have scar tissue that's closing up which is why I'm having all the infections because I'm not draining properly. He said there may be other options besides surgery but he'll know better when he can evalutate my CAT scan. I did like him but we'll see where we go from here. I really don't want to have surgery again and I don't like taking all the antibiotics. Also he said I'm doing everything right...I use the sinus rinse everyday, use flonase, etc. He is going to refer me to a neuroligist for my headaches.

So tomorrow DH and I have appointments with the dermatoligst (I know...ALL these Dr appts!). We actually made the appt months ago to have body scans. We've had several friends of late have skin cancer and my mom just had a basal cell carcinoma removed from her neck and forehead so we thought we should go get checked.

Oh and very last thing...spinning was great tonight! We had a substitute. We've had her before and I really like her. She has a different style but still works your A$$ off! :) It's raining cats and dogs here! TTYT!

Rachel, hope you're better!!!

Just a quickie to say its all better! I think it must have been tension because the top of my head is kind of sore. The body is a weird thing how everything is connected.
Thank you all for making me feel not so wienery but I did feel like a big one. I hate giving in to the pain and letting it think it's beating me:rolleyes::p Did that make sense.

OK already late but I will be back later for personals.
