<---STS 6 Month Alumni---> Week of June 13

Rachel, I'm so glad you are feeling better! That was an easy fix!

Jo, it sounds like this new doctor might be promising! I hope the further tests and stuff will give you the options he mentioned! It's a pain though that you have to do the tests all over again!

I have been procrastinating about getting a full body skin scan for years! I keep telling myself to go and never make the appointment! Thanks for sharing, by so doing you pushed me one more inch in the right direction!

I'm excited that you love the spinning so much! It's so cool when you get so much out of it!

Kim, I'm glad you guys are feeling better!

I just spent about 3 days searching the web for good gifts for dd's birhtday. She is the only granddaughter so everyone wants to give her lots of stuff!!! The inlaws usually send money and have me be the purchaser, which I like because then at least she doesn't get doubles or useless stuff....;) I'm putting some money in the bank for her, it just seems stupid to blow it all now, when she really has more than enough already (of course she may not think so but I'm not going to tell....;))

Ds of course wants me to get him stuff too, since he sees me get stuff for her. Talk about spoiled! And his friends are all more spoiled than he is! It scares me!
There is this one lego set he has been wanting but doesn't have enough money for. We were making him do chores to earn the rest. Evidently we are not paying him enough because he is no longer interested in working for it. He knows he'll get it eventually from his grandparents if he doesn't feel like working for it. We try

Workout today was a treadmill walk. I did uphill intervals with 3lb weights and got a good workout that way. My back is still feeling good, I think maybe the rosehips are working! (I had bought a bottle of less potent rosehip powder while in Switzerland and have taken it up until my other order got in and I think, this is the only thing I have been doing different, other than doing low impact workouts and pilates in particular, so I'm leaning toward blaming it on the rosehips!

Taking the kids to the pool this afternoon. But I'm hoping to get my menus planned and the shopping list made for the week first.

Well I think I am back to normal! ha If I ever was normal to begin with!
I am telling you, yesterday was no fun at all esp. having to work through it. Thank goodness today is a better day.
I woke up super tired this morning but I did manage to get 40/20 done. Maybe not as great as I would have liked but I did it to the best of this mornings abilities which I was happy with. Then I was supposed to do an ab workout and I went in thinking I was going to stretch instead after 40/20 but I thought I would give abs a go and was really able to focus better than I thought. Do you have those days when you think..."this should have been a weight day?" Well I think that was today.

Work is going good. The 2 guys (one 17 yr. old kid and the other is a man) are really doing good so far. I did not have to tear up any more carpet, which is a great thing! SO right now we are on a good schedule. We should be able to keep Saturday and Sunday off for now. That is definitely a good thing.

Cendrine-I have such a hard time shopping on the internet for kids but I know the options are so much better than if you just hit a couple of stores. Esp. in my area.
I think it is hard with kids now days because when we were growing up things were a lot simpler and definitely a lot cheaper. Plus it must be hard when ds's friends are being spoiled and he sees them get the things he wants. It is so hard to toe the line. You want them to have things but you don't want them to expect them. So hard..I can imagine!
I hope it is the rosehip that is working. That way you will just get better and better.

Jo-Maybe with the new dr. you will get a new perspective on this whole thing. Maybe it is a good thing that he can start from scratch that way he can do his research on you his way that way there will be no stone unturned! A good new thorough work up!
I think the skin scan is a great idea. My grandmother died from melanoma. I am super fair and freckly so I try to avoid the sun now that I have grown up and realized the sun is not necessarily your friend. Esp. the sun we have now. If I am in it, I either cover up...while all my friends are tanning their hearts out, I am slathering on spf 100 and wearing a huge hat!

Kim-I am glad yall are better. It sounds like a 24 hr bug.
What is it after the insanity recovery week?
Have they broke ground at the house yet?

Ok...Again I am starving so better go.

Darn...it's still not Friday! So appt at dermatoligist went well. Cendrine you should go as for both us (DH and I) we were only in there 45 minutes!). Anyway, I have these things called seb???? keratosis which look kind of like moles and the older I get the more I get - most are very small and on my back and chest. My dad had them too. Anyway, I had one big one (the size of a quarter) on my side that you only see when I have my swimsuit on and I had her burn/freeze it off (they use that nitrious stuff that's in a spray can - Kim probably knows) as it's ugly! Anyway, none of them are precancer or anything. So other than that I was good to go. DH had one little precancer spot on the side of his head and they froze that off. He spent a bijillion amount of time in the sun in his early 20's as he lived in FL and was a huge sunlover.

After that, went to the gym and did 20 min on TM, 20 min on elliptical and 20 min on recumbent. Tonight is Resort night - YIPPEE!

I wasn't done yet...

Rachel, so glad you're okay! Yes, I have those days thinking today should have been a weight day or vice versa. I am especially thinking that now as I've gotten off track with my rotation. I think part of it is these anti-inflammatories make me tired and then I have this sinus infection so my energy is zapped a little. Hope things work well with the new job. Sounds like you have good helpers and it sure helps having your weekends off doesn't it? You should go get scanned too! And great job on 40/20!!!!!

Cendrine, so tell me what the rosehips are that you bought and what the strength is. That's so encouraging if you feel they're working for you! Glad your workouts are coming along! It's hard to buy things for kids! I wanted to get some gifts for GF grandkids and they have EVERYTHING so I ended up sending them some books. I had to chuckle about ds and the legos! :D

Alright, I got to go get around and get to work....I still can't believe it's not Friday! Have a great day! Hi Kim!

Sorry guys for the late checkin.
I was late again this morning. Actually I woke up before my alarm (3:54) but felt so good that I kind of worked out over the time I should have stopped. It was the original bootcamp today but I only made it through the icebreakers. At least I made it through all 8 cardio's. I just had to stop cause dh would have had to leave me if I finished.lol

It is weird having helpers on a job. They really help out alot. Imagine that , huh? haha I am not nearly as worn out as normal. I feel like if it was not so darn hot outside I would not be worn out at all!

Jo-I feel the same way. I thought it was Fri. all morning. Oh well that gives us something to look forward to right!
Your gym sounds like so much fun. I am glad you are getting alot out of it. Does your dh go as much as you do or is he still in the healing process?
I am glad your scan went well. I have one mole on my back that I get dh to keep an eye on. It is one that was exposed if I was in a swimsuit when I was young and dumb and would lay out with my friends on their trampoline. Can you say burnt toast!!!!

Cendrine-I was going to ask you if you had made the crepes. How do you think it would turn out if you just used whole wheat tortillas?
I have not really looked at that recipe too much in depth yet. I do wish I was a good meal planner like you seem to be.

Kim-Hope you are having a great week now that yall are well!

Off to shower and relax

Late post for me too! I took the kids to a place called pretend city, which is just that, it's a city inside a building where the kids can do everything, there's a post office, a firestation, police station, doctor's office, fishing place, beach (with sand) restaurant with commercial style mini kitchen, farm, building workshop, art studio, they had a mini ralphs grocery store and time cards that you could go put in an ATM for play money... etc. It was our treat for the end of the school year celebration and another two homeschool friends tagged along to make it even more fun. It was loud, though!
Fortunately I was able to get my pilates workout in before we started out so I'm good there!

Then we went to the pool before dinner, so I didn't have a minute to sit down.... I made the udon noodle chicken soup from CE magazine today (can you tell this week was all about CE recipes?) Gotta plan them when I remember! LOL! It was a great tasting soup!
Rachel, I am guessing that the wholewheat tortillas would not be as mild in flavor as the crepes, but it would sure save time! The filling is super delish, so I'm sure it would be yummy even with the tortillas, but the crepes were mild and tender and it was just really yummy!

Jo, thanks for the pep talk, I really do need to go! I'm glad you all checked out ok! The rosehip supplements I ended up ordering are from this website: http://www.lewtress.co.uk/subprod/rose-hip-supplement-0001160.aspx

I got the super strenght (naturally....;)) but there is a regular strenght also. The company is in the UK, but I found the shipping for three bottles to be very reasonable. It did take almost two weeks for it to get here, but it came registered, so I know they are making sure things get here. Tell me what you think when you check out the website. I didn't do a super long research, but it was the best one I could find with my limited knowledge of what to look out for...;)

Enjoy spa night tonight!
I'm going to bed early with a book!

Hi Kim, I hope you are doing well!

Good FRIDAY morning!

Well darned if I didn't forget to set my alarm somehow! SO I was up early but too late to get a workout in. Isn't that funny! So now I have extra time this morning. I am going to try really hard to come home and get it in. It's not one of the tough ones. Step Moves I think. Since this week is turning out alot easier than I though it would be I might just have the energy for it.

I forgot to tell I got my other workouts in so I am going to do HSTA tomorrow. I am looking forward to it! I realized why I never got any tracking info. SOmehow I picked regular mail delivery instead of UPS. So the other day that I missed my workout this week:eek:, was the day I found them in the mailbox. So I have missed 2 workouts this week so far so looking at it that way I am just going to have to use that as motivation to come home and get it done!

Cendrine-Pretend City sounds like so much fun for the kids. I am sure we all remember when we wanted to pretend like we were grown ups! What a great treat for them.
Way to go on getting pilates in before you went. Have you found one that you particularly like the instructor better than others? I am always wanting to get some more yoga and pilates dvds but I don't want to waste money on ones that the instructor gets on my nerves.

OK I have killed some extra time. Now I can go eat breakfast!

Have a great DAY everyone!

Rachel

FRIDAY!!!! At last!!!! Okay so the big wait for Friday and I don't have any specific plans! I just wanted it to be here. And don't you know, I woke up headachey but I don't think it will turn into a migraine. It's actually supposed to get up to 68 today so I think the slight weather improvement is what's doing me in.

Last night was GREAT...AGAIN! Oh how I love Thursday nights! Today is my rest day. So we did our normal spin and since instructor missed class Tuesday he worked us extra hard since he hadn't worked out! Then we went and had a Recovery Smoothie with protein. Then it was off to water aerobics, therapy pool, sauna and steam! What a great night - I wish I could share that with all of you! Oh and the spin instructor said to me on the way out the door: Great workout Jo, I've never seen you work so hard (as my hair is wet and clothes sticking to me with sweat) and I told him I was just trying to keep up! ;):p:confused::cool:

Cendrine, pretend city sounds like a gas! I'll bet the kids had a great time! Thanks for the link, I'm going to check that out. Now that I finally got my CE magazine, I'll sit down tomorrow and look at all those great recipes you've been talking about. I curious too what pilates you're doing (inquiring minds want to know!).

Rachel, I'm so excited for you to do HSTA! In fact I'm so excited I'm thinking I might do that tomorrow! It is a killer on the legs - can you say mucho leg presses! Well good about the helpers - it's nice you may not have to kill yourself this time! And GREAT job on BootCamp. I'm kind of thinking next week might be a good circuit week for me. I haven't done any in a while and you're inspiring me!

Alright I must get in the shower and get to work. As I type this last sentence I realize my headache has gone so let's hope it stays that way! Happy Friday Kim!

Oh and I'm thinking (since it's Friday) I may wear my lululemon track pants to work today and be very "fitnessy" looking. (People wear jeans most of the time, I dress up half the time and Fridays is usually a very relaxed dress day!) I'm off!

Wow what a whirl wind of energy you are, JO! I do not know how the walls of your house contain you sometimes!lol

I must agree though...I could not wait for Friday but I too have no plans whatsoever! I think I will be inside mostly though since it is in the 100's outside. At least with the the index anyhow, and isn't that what counts:p:eek::cool::rolleyes::D
It is nice to have an actual work week that ends at Friday!

I am not going to get my workout in tonight but I am not too worried about it. Tomorrow is HSTA and from what yall all say, I am going to need my rest and my wheaties so that is exactly what I am going to do!

Jo-I know we all wish we could be spinning right along side you! You really do bring it to life and make it sound like so much fun and how cool to get the nod from the instructor...I would love that too. I love that positive reinforcement! It does so much.
Oh and your weather sounds great!!!I am super jealous!lol
DId you watch the Deadiest Catch this week? It is so sad!

Hey Kim and Cendrine! The weekends here!

Rachel

I didn't get a workout in today either... I guess I'll call it my rest day. I made three different kinds of bread, then played with the kids and ran out of time to work out in the morning, thought I would do it after lunch and got stuck trying to sew on patches for the boy scout uniform and the Taekwondo uniforms and it took me way long for some reason, then I had to hustle and get showered (I had waited to shower in the hopes of getting a workout in) so I could run to the grocery store. Henry's opened right around the corner from us a couple of days ago and I wanted to go check it out. It was a madhouse and it took me forever to get past everyone in there.... and then I had to run to costco as well. I came home just in time for dinner and now I'm just done for the day.... We have company for lunch tomorrow, so everyone will have to help with getting the house presentable. I had the kids pick up most of their stuff today. But there are lots of projects sitting around waiting to dry and such, so will have to finalize tomorrow...

As far as pilates instructors go, I like the gal from the chrunch series, I can't remember her name, but she is one I don't get annoyed with...LOL But she doesn't do pure pilates, she kind of does a fusion of other things as well, but it's good. The 10-minute solution gal is ok too, a little more reserved I think, but she's good too. Then I have done some different ones that are better about teaching the basics but are a bit boring once you know the drill. Stotts pilates, was one of the ones that did a good job teaching, but I'm not so sure I would enjoy doing her workouts too often. A couple of other english sounding gals did good too but again, I would get bored. Mari Windsor does good work, but personally I don't connect with her as well. I've still got a couple of other ones to try. But I think if I was going to by any I would probably buy from the chrunch series and the 10 min solution series. Rachel, I think you'll have a blast with tomorrow's workout. There are two cardio bursts in there that always get me, one of them is using scissors, a real leg burner for me every time, and the other one is shuffle taps of side fast feet or something of the sort, can't remember exactly what she calls it, it's the last one and it definitely gets you going! I can't wait to hear how you like it. This was one of the first titles I ever got!

Rachel, you make me laugh! LOL! DH does tell me to calm down once in a while! Haha!! I have not seen Deadliest Catch so I hope it will be replayed this weekend. It's usually on sometime during the weekend. I'll have to look but I'm not sure if Discovery shows them online like some of the other stations. And see..you're inside cuz it's hot and I'm inside cuz it's cold! LOL! It's supposed to rain again tomorrow! You know that is once nice thing about taking a live class...getting a nod from the instructor or the motivation to work harder. I can only imagine how fun it would be to take a class from Cathe. I'm not sure if I ever told you guys this but I have had live classes with Kari Anderson (her gyms are here) and I also had live class with Mindy Mylrea. It was exhilarating!

Cendrine, you a busy busy girl! You are project queen! LOL! When DH used to be in karate, I made all their headbands and sewed patches! It's interesting about the Pilates DVD's. I tried Winsor and Stotts and a bunch of those and I never clicked with them. But I did do the best with the Crunch ones. So that's partly why I couldn't get into Pilates and now taking the live classes has totally made it work for me! And honestly, when I think about it...if I hadn't discovered Cathe I don't know if I would have been as dedicated to working out with DVD's. It really makes a difference finding a great instructor that motivates and inspires you.

Okay, I think we're going to watch a movie and settle in. Rachel, I've pulled out HSTA to do with you tomorrow!!! Yippeeeeee!!!!

Sorry I haven't been around in a couple of days. Nothing exciting here. I did the Insanity recovery workout everyday except yesterday. Yesterday I wore new shoes to work and developed huge blisters:( Today is a rest day and then tomorrow I'll start month 2 of Insanity.

It's been raining like crazy here! We're at the point that the farmer's crops are gone (we're an agricultural area). There is talking about more flooding, the floodway is full! Not good for building houses either:confused::rolleyes: Hoping they can start next week. Also the mosquitoes are coming out like crazy!

Cendrine What a busy day with the pretend city and swimming! We went to a similar place on vacation to Edmonton once and the kids loved it! Did you get the kids signed up for swim lessons?

Jo I would love to do resort night with you!

Rachael Did you do HSTA?? I'm not keen on circuit workouts I find that going from cardio to weights makes me feel kind of sick sometimes.

Okay off to shower and then I'm doing some power cleaning and getting the playroom ready for DH to paint.

Good Saturday!

Oh Kim, you've got the rain like we do! Yesterday was our only day of sunshine in eons! More rain today! Hope you're house doesn't get delayed and if it does, not much! And then blisters! Ugghhh! How comfortable.

I'm just sitting here having some coffee and then off to workout. We're trying to decide what we're going to do over the 4th. We usually either go to MT or end up at one of DH's family reunions. We're definitely not doing a reunion this year but trying to decide what to do. Oh and I forgot to tell you, our roommate left yesterday to go back home. He had gotten his job back that allows him to work from home in MT so off he went! He was with us for 15 months. But it worked out good since we're all good friends. You know DH has the National Geographic channel on right now and I'm thinking any of the places it's showing sounds like a good place to go: Hawaii, Canyon Lands, Grand Canyon....I need a vacation!

BBL!

HSTA done! Oh that was fun! I don't remember the last time I did that workout! Rachel, I hope you enjoyed it too!!

I'm finishing my breakfast and then I'm doing some cleaning. I found a salad in the CE magazine I'm going to make today: the Peach, Walnut Barley salad. DH also bought a bijillion mangoes so I'm going to make him some mango/radish salsa.

Hope you all have a great day!

Good almost evening!!!!

Sorry I hit the ground running this morning and just now had a chance to write. I loved HSTA! I felt very worked by the end which I sometimes do not get from a circuit (my fault because I never use the right weights trying to pace myself:rolleyes:) This time I used what Cathe used and it was plenty!!!Thanks for the heads up on the leg presses. They did not seem that bad since I knew they were coming each time. I mean by the end I was ready to not do them anymore, lol, but I felt very accomplished having got them all in.
I wish I could say that I am as graceful as they all are when I am bouncing back and forth from cardio to weights but then I would just be a big ole liar!!!:D

Jo- I know what you mean about a vacation. Today I was at the grocery store and there was a life magazine about all the places you should go before you die and I wanted to dive into every page. Everything looked so wonderful but I think that is the way it is when it's an anywhere but here type of thing! haha
I can't wait to here where you end up on the fourth! I will live through you!

Kim-Sorry about the blisters and the rain! I guess I have not had blisters from shoes since the jelly days...Do you remember those? Or did yall call them something different. They were not the best looking shoes but they sure were popular then. I guess all my shoes are pretty much casual...I need to branch out and get some more girly ones but then I would probably get blisters..lol
Normally the workouts that get me queezy are the full on cardio jumping ones...something about airjacks does not always agree with me!

Cendrine-Thanks for all the pilates info. I think the crunch one sounds like something I might like. I will probably keep my eye out for that. I am not in a hurry right now for new workouts but I would like to expand my collection with some other genres.
I hope you are having a great lunch with the friends. What did you make?

Ok Better be off. I can not believe that is already 5 o clock!

TTYT
Rachel

Good Evening!!!

Rachel I'm so glad you liked HSTA! Isn't it FUN? Oh but those leg presses! :p

I feel very accomplished today. Cleaned the kitchen top to bottom meaning...scoured all the counters, cleaned the stove, all the applicances, wiped down all the gadgets that sit on my counter, emptied all the fruit and vegetable bins and cleaned them, cleaned the refrigerator...you get the idea. You know how it is when you're in the mood to clean you got to GO FOR IT! HA! Then went to Costco. So DH grilled a flank steak he bought at the butcher and I made that Peach, Walnut, Barley salad out of the CE magazine. It was really good. I also threw in a handful of fresh blueberries I bought today. The only issue was my peach wasn't very ripe so I think it would have been a tad better if the peach was ripe. It needed a little more sweet flavor. Now I have laundry going and I think we're going to watch a movie.

I'll talk to you tomorrow!

Late check in again for me!

We were cleaning up the house this morning and I was able to get in my treadmill walk, which I really needed, I was kind of grumpy this morning and the workout pulled me right out of it!
then I had to prepare lunch for our friends. It was a not too healthy, swiss meal. It's called Racclette, wich is the name of a particular cheese for this meal. You have a little oven of sorts on the table with little pans one for each person. you put a slice of cheese on the pan and melt it in the oven while you prepare fingerling potatoes on your plate. The oven has a grill top on which we grilled peppers, zucchini and mushrooms which you also put on your plate and then you pour the melted cheese over it. You can either just melt the cheese or let it get all bubbly and crispy on top. It was yummy but not necessarily low cal! Neither was dessert, a strawberry shortcake... We all enjoyed it and can go back to healthy tomorrow! LOL!

Jo, let me know how that barley salad turns out if you get to it before I do. I just bought the stuff to make it this week as well! It does sound good! Sorry about all the rain you've been having! We don't know what we are going to do on the 4th yet either... We don't usually celebrate it too much, but the kids are getting to be an age where they care because they won't let a reason go by for a party....;) Still figuring it out too! I totally agree with you on the Cathe dvds getting me to commit to dvd workouts! I've tried many different ones (I have a kid one by Kari Anderson, by the way) and nothing hooked me like Cathe did! I did the Firm for a while and that worked for me until it didn't work for me any more....;) and that's when I dared to give Cathe a try and never regretted it! The instructors make a huge difference and I would love to have some live classes! That would be really special!

Kim, I'm so sorry about the flooding! Wow! When you say the crops is gone, are you saying they have to start from scratch or is it too late in the year to get a crops at all? THat would be terrible! I'm sorry about your blisters as well! Good thing you had a rest day! Circuit workouts are harder in a sense because your body has to keep switching back and forth, maybe that is what makes you dizzy or sick. I'm with Rachel though, I am finding that as much as I would like to jump like Cathe, it's the anerobic plyo stuff that really can get me feeling off. Have you guys all seen the suggestions on the suggestion thread about a low impact series? With me taking it easy from high impact stuff I would love for her to come up with something tough yet low impact! Wouldn't it be nice to have that variety? I did sign up the kids for swimlessons but I am not sure when yet.... This is kind of complicated with this instructor.... So I'm waiting to hear back from him for some time in July, hopefully the first week of July!

Rachel, I'm glad HSTA worked you good! LOL! It's a really good one!

Dh is getting our house tented for fumigation from termites! Just what I was looking forward to.... He said I should pick a hotel I wanted to stay at for a couple of days... I suggested we grab our tent and go camping over the weekend, since he has promised ds we would go as a family and I just know it will be December before he will ever have something planned....LOL I haven't heard any negative responses yet... so we'll see...
Tomorrow, dh said he'd try and get my hammock chair up on the porch! Yay! I can't wait!

In the meantime I am trying to figure out how to make a fairy house cake for dd's birthday... Her birthday party theme is going to be fairies, she'll have all her friends dress up in fairy costumes and we'll make a fairy garden out of nature objects which we are going to collect by a lake in the mountains on Monday...Have any of you ever worked with Fondant? I was thinking of making a fondant toadstool fairy house on top of the cake or something, but I have never worked with fondant before, so I don't know what I'm gonna end up doing. I was thinking of picking some up at Michaels and experimenting to see if that could be the way to go.... I think I'm gonna google working with fondant right now...

Cendrine, you must have been writing when I posted. Look at my post before your last post about the peach, walnut barley recipe. Two thumbs up but make sure your peach is more on the ripe side as my wasn't quite sweet enough. I threw in blueberries to sweeten it up a little. Two thumbs up though from me!

Oh Cendrine, also, I finally have all the ingredients to make the granola...about how long do you usually dehydrate and at what temperature?

Well today is the Manitoba Marathon. This is the largest race around usually about 16,000 runners and has been such a big part of our lives. DH has run many full marathons and I've run one full and 3 halfs. But this year the only one running is ds. His track team from school is doing it as a 5 man relay. (26.2 miles in 5 pieces) He is the fourth leg and will do 6.1 miles. I will see him off and then try to find him in the sea of people. With all the excitement of the race makes me really miss it. I think I"ll go back to the half marathon next year.

Jo Any plans yet for the 4th??I've been checking out vacation brochures for next winter already, would like to go somewhere hot for a week. Isn't it nice to have the kitchen so nice and clean.

Rachael Glad you liked HSTA! I remember the jelly shoes, don't think I had any though. These new shoes were Skeechers (Sp?) and they weren't cheap $85. I thought they would be good work shoes. I still have a huge blister of my right heel going to wait till later in the day to try my workout as I'm scared to put on my workout shoes. DH said it's a good thing you're not running the marathon this weekend. Can you imagine such a simple thing ruining months of training.

Cendrine The fairy theme would be so cute! No fancy cakes from me:confused: I often find if I'm getting grumpy a walk sure helps. The Racclette sounds yummy, cheese is a weakness of mine! The camping will be fun, will it be really hot for camping? Hope you get your hammock chair up. DS and I were out doing errands last night and ended up buying a little bistro set (2 chairs and a little table) for the back yard. Now if the mosquitoes didn't eat you alive then we could sit out then when it's not raining:rolleyes:
