STS 6 month alumni moving into March!

Good Morning...
It is just going to have to be a quick one for me...I got behind a little today!
But I did box the crud out of my work out this morning. I hope I am onto something with the cereal thing because having all this energy is feeling great! I have not felt like this for at least a month, I know for sure but it could have even been longer than that!

I hope everyone is having a great DAY!

Gotta go get some work done!

Rachel

Quick note for me too as I'm running late....

Today was rest day and I slept too late! LOL!

Kim, it's hard having to change schools huh? I had to do that when I was in grade school and wasn't too pleased but it all turned out okay! Glad you're warming up there! Our weather has been unbelievable!

Cendrine, you sound like you're just off partying! What fun! And your garbanzo bean curry sounds delicous!!

Rachel, I know that cereal (except oatmeal) always had an affect on me which is why I never eat it. After you mentioned the possbility of making you sluggish...I was thinking...oh yeah, it does!

Okay last thing...I really really want to go to SD road trip. Anyway was all set on not going (as Cendrine and I had discussed way back) but I can't stand that she'll be on our side of the planet and I know I'll never get to NJ. So I'm thinking of asking my weight loss gal if she wants to go with me. If she says yes I'm going. I do hate to spend the money right now but I told DH it could be my birthday and Xmas and everything else for the year for me! Also, they never have said if Cathe will come to Seattle (probably not) so I think I should do it!

Well, I'm back to forget about the roadtrip! I thought I could make this work, but I forgot it's Springbreak week and there is not a decent priced flight to be had! Boohoo! Oh well....

Jo...I am so sorry. I know that if she comes to Austin or San Antonio I really want to go to! DH said he would go but like you I am not wanting to spend the money but who knows it might be a while before she comes to TX an by then I might be in need for a good vacation!. I think DH was saying he would go to San Antonio or Austin...not that he would go to road trip.:p

By the end of this week it is going to be 69 degrees..HELLO SPRING! Sorry Kim!

I was also going to try Jo's drop weight and go low for the last leg for me in meso 2 tomorrow...I did use it for the bench presses for chest. Instead of stopping early when I thought I would not make it back up I would go all the way and just about touch my upper pecs with the bar and I do believe I got a different set of DOMS!

Cendrine-Did you recover from all that play yesterday? How fun it must be to just go to Disney when ever and not stress about getting to see or ride everything!

Well I am off to do not very much! Hope you all had a great day!

Rachel

Finished the last triset and can't say I'm sorry to be done with them. I tried to go deeper Jo, but my left hamstring started to cramp! So had to back off the depth and I still felt the odd twinge throughout the workout. What did you think of TBL? I was fine with Miggy leaving. Maybe Michael can go next week:rolleyes:

Hey Rachael, it's going to +4 tomorrow and we're going to enjoy it!

Jo, that's too bad that the Cathe road trip didn't work out. I know if Cathe comes anywhere close to here, like Minneapolis, I would go without a second thought:D

Cendrine So was it back to the grind today? The school is a grade 5-8 and next year dd will be grade 5 and ds in Gr8. DD is happy to go, she knows a couple of kids not real well but a least a few familiar faces and it will be a new school for everyone in Grade 5. DS is in Grade 8 so he would be only in this school one year. High school is Gr 9-12 if he wants to finish Grade 8 at his old school we could arrange it. DH or I could change our work hours to drop him off if needed. I think he didn't get a good impression of the school as the open house was for the parents of Grade 4 students entering the school. So they made it sound very safe or "babyish" too him:rolleyes: I think I might take him back to get a personal tour from the principal to see more of what Grade 8 is like.

Jo, I was getting all excited with you about going to the Cathe trip after all and then disappointed with you when it didn't work out, so sorry! I guess for me it's ok because I couldn't keep up with all you guys and that would not feel all that fun. Hopefully she will do another trip sometime, even if not next year.

Kim, a personal tour sounds great for ds. I hope he gets to do it! Sounds like switching school for your dd is going to be pretty easy, that's nice!
I had a cramp in my hamstring last time I did trisets back when doing STS as well! I hope you got some time to strech it out so it won't give you any more trouble.

Rachel, it was back to the grind, not much play today, as we are working ahead to have Friday off as well. But we are in a groove right now so it does not take that much effort to do a little extra, and that is nice.

I made a yummy wild rice mushroom bake today! If you love rice dishes, you have to try this one. It has a wild/brown rice mix, some kidney beans, mushrooms, onions, garlic and lots of spinach. I added some parmesan to the mix, just for fun.

Rachel, hope the drop in weights works for you on your leg workout! It was great for me and a nice change!! I sure hope Cathe will come to Seattle! I mean she needs to come somewhere near ALL of us!

Kim, oh my gosh! I'm with you Goodbye Miggy and truly Michael can go bye bye as well! I thought I was going to get sick watching Michael and the other gal eat all those sweets on that challenge! And I LOVED seeing Jillians team win after Michael stacked the teams! Served him right! HA!

Cendrine, you know of course I would have loved if we could have gone to the RT! But alas it wasn't meant to be! So maybe you'll get all better, than Cathe will come to Seattle and you can come up here! :D:confused::p You're rice bake sounds delicous! All your ingredients are right up my alley!

Okay, off to bed to read. Tomorrow I start week 4! Oh and Cendrine, I forgot about my comment of substituting S&H for Meso 3. I might take a look at that and see if I want to do that. Or maybe do it after we finish this rotation. Rachel do you have S&H? I know Kim does. You would probably like that as well. Oh and last thing...I looked at the March rotation and it looks really good! It might be a nice rotation to do after we finsh this one. So I'm up for it if anyone else is interested. Maybe Cendrine will be closer to tackling a rotation then too. Actually it's probably too early to be planning another rotation...I'm rambling...G'night!

On my gosh! I forgot to tell you guys this. So this guy at work I've been working with off and on with weight loss... About 18 months ago I was working out with him a couple of nights a week, doing medicine ball training and mostly encouraging him on weight loss. (I can't remember if he and I were still working together when I met all of you.) Anyway, I worked with him for about 6 months and then he joined a gym. Well as of last fall, he had lost about 70 lbs and then plateaued. Then I started working with him again right after New Year's, only just working with him on his food (he's still going to the gym and kayaking). Anyway, long story short...today he hit 100 lbs since we first started! He is within 10 lbs of goal. I'm so proud of him! Isn't that awesome!?! He is off his diabetes and high blood pressure medicines!

Then today, I had another person come to me and ask if I would work with them. She needs to lose about a 100 also! Actually all I'm doing is setting up little programs for them, tracking their progress, measuring, etc. Basically they are being accountable to me and I'm helping them and encouraging. I guess I should become a weight management consultant or something! LOL!

Jo...Wow I think I see a career move for you! That is so wonderful that you helping those people!

Ok Very quick in out for me...Last legs in Meso 2 done!!!!!! I just dropped weight in a few exercises that I knew were trouble for me anyway and I think I am going to really feel it tomorrow! Thanks Jo;) Right now I have concrete jello legs ...does that make sense!!!

Well I really have to buzz but I will be in later to chat hopefully!

Have a great day!!!

Rachel

Hi girls! Crazy busy day for me! I forgot until after I went to bed last night that I had to be in for an early meeting  so didn't get to do my workout! So I am committed to getting it done tonight!

Rachel!! I know EXACTLY what concrete jello legs are! LOL! Good for you and enjoy them! (Careful on the toilet! HA!)

Okay, check back later...I have to leave early for hair appt and then I'll get my workout done!

Yea!! We had an earlier day than expected so that means home early to enjoy some daylight in the nice weather! It is nice to get off a little early on a Thursday.

I am mentally preparing myself for CCC tomorrow. For me I think that is the hardest of the shock cardio's! But I really feel ready for it this week. I am hoping this energy burst stays around!

Cendrine-I meant to tell you the other day that I think when you are eating homemade granola, that it has the same effect that my cereal that is meant to last on a shelf for a yr does. I love love love homemade granola and would love your recipe for making it in the oven. The wild mushroom bake sounds delicious too!
I think it is great that you are squeezing in extra lessons to have Friday off. The kids are going to get used to that!

Jo-So sorry you missed your workout this morning but I am sure you will get it in tonight. It is a shame to sweat up a good hair day but so worth it!
I do have slow and heavy and only have done it once since I have not had it that long. And I never think it is too early to talk next rotation! I think March looks great.

Kim-You better watch out or you are going to have a heat wave on your hands...:D +4 ...Yall will probably have your flip flops on and your windows on when it gets to +10! I do have to remind myself that you are talking Celsius though. The first thing I think of is 4 F and that is super duper cold!

Well I am off to enjoy the rest of the daylight!

See yall tomorrow!

Rachel

Hi Guys,

Congrats on helping that guy reach his 100lb goal, Jo! It never ceases to amaze me how people get off medicines when they start taking care of themselves! And insurance companies still don't give rewards to us who save them so much money by taking good care of ourselves! You think they will ever catch on that prevention is in their own best interest

I'll try to remember to post the granola and mushroom bake recipe this weekend. Every time I remember I'm upstairs and too lazy to go back downstairs to go get the recipes....

I have had a few busy weeks lately so I am going to try hard to not do anything extra the next couple of weeks to try and kind of recover. I feel low energy and wish I could have some of yours, Rachel!

I haven't looked at the March rotation, but I will check it out and maybe I will be able to join you guys on that one with modifications. That would be fun!

Kim, I hope you are having a good day!

Oh Cendrine, I think it would be so cool if you could do a rotation with us...I hate talking about them and you are not able to join in...but I am glad that we all have other stuff to talk about too so it is not all about the rotation.

I am so happy for Friday. If my energy keeps up I should get alot done this weekend. I am a little worried though because DH is is the mood for mexican food and this is a week that I can not seem to get full...so I am going to have to watch out on those chips and salsa that they bring to the table! The bowl of chips is bigger than both of our heads put together and I can remember a time when he and I would eat almost all of them during the course of the meal. Isn't that terrible. They also bring flour or corn tortillas that most people, including DH, slather melted butter on and then dip that in the hot sauce too. It really does not promote healthy eating...haha I am glad I have gotten up some will power in the last couple of yrs. When I go there now , I just make sure I am not starving when I get there and I tell myself there will be other meals so I do not have to eat this one like it's my last! :D

Ok It was CCC for me this morning and I did do it like it was my last cardio since it was for meso 2! Although the thought of this one scares me a little each time because I always wonder if I am going to have a bad day and not be able to do very well, I have a day like today where I just do so good and it makes me love it and myself all at the same time! Me, the girl that smoked in high school:eek:, and never ran a mile until my late 20's is blazing through some tough cardio! Yea ME! haha

Can you tell I have Friday energy to spare!!!! Trying to mentally send you some , Cendrine!

Hope yall Have a Great Day!

Rachel

Goodness, CCC after triset legs, my legs are so stiff! I was dreading CCC yesterday. Just back/biceps today and then it's recovery week!!:D:D Rachael, I wish you could send Cendrien and I some of that energy!! Today is a funfilled day of dentist, grocery shopping and then the hair dresser! But we have nothing in the evening so I'm looking forward to so time to relax.

Cendrine I would love to see the mushroom bake recipe! I love mushrooms, the kids not so much:rolleyes:

Jo You'te getting quite a reputation as a weight loss coach! Have you ever thought of doing it parttime??

Good Friday evening everybody!

It must be a busy day for everyone today!
I am just excited that it is the weekend and it is going to be nice all the way till Monday and then rain all week...at least it is holding off for the week end!
Just one more workout in this meso and then I am on recovery with kim and Jo you are right behind us. I think I am going to really enjoy this week.

I wonder why there is never a recovery week scheduled between the regular rotations that Cathe does...? They are equally as hard I think! Something to ponder!

I am off to shower and relax. Have a great Friday night and I will see yall tomorrow!

Rachel

Yep, Rachel, I want what you have! LOL! Maybe this weekend will be a bit more refreshing than the last, I can hope!

Enjoy your rest week, all of you! Rachel, I don't know why there aren't any rest weeks in the regular rotations... probably because most people don't know about them and don't do them? Or maybe because the weights are not increased incrementally like in STS? I don't know. But I think just doing it with the Sts Rotation has helped me be more aware and listen to if my body needs a rest week and when.

So I am going to try to post some recipes here, I hope it all comes through!

* Wild Rice and Mushroom Bake
4½ C water
1½ C wild rice, rinsed well
1½ C brown rice, rinsed well
2 C water
½ C raw almonds
1 can kidney beans, rinsed, and drained (or 2 C dry, cooked)
2 (10-oz). bags fresh spinach, chopped (or you can use frozen chopped, well drained)
2 lbs. mushrooms, cleaned and coarsely chopped
2 yellow onions, coarsely chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
3 Tbsp. whole-wheat flour
2 tsp. sea salt
Bring 4½ C water to a boil, then add the brown and wild rice. Cover, reduce the heat, and simmer for 45
minutes. In a high-power blender, blend 2 C water, almonds, and whole-wheat flour on high speed until very
smooth. Pour the mixture into a pan and add the mushrooms, garlic, onion, and flour. Stir often on medium heat
until the mushrooms and onions are tender.
Pour the hot mixture into a high-power blender and purée until smooth. Return the mixture to the pan and add
the spinach, stirring on medium heat until it is just wilted. (If your family doesn’t like greens, you can
optionally purée the sauce again with the spinach and then return the mixture to the pan.)
Preheat the oven to 350°. Gently stir the kidney beans and cooked rice into mixture in the pan, then pour
everything into a 9x13” baking dish (and an additional 9x9” dish, which you can freeze for later). Cover and
bake for 20 minutes until heated through.
Note: if you don't have a good blender, I think you could just get almond milk instead of making the almonds blend in the water, or if you want, you could just use regular milk. Also, the rice and the beans together make a complete protein, so no animal protein is necessary, however, a little parmesan on top tasted really good. One last comment, I didn't blend my mushroom mixture because I like chunks of mushrooms in my rice, made it a bit more like risotto.

Robyn’s Granola
Full of fiber and Omega-3 fatty acids, this is whole-foods nutrition perfect for children
and adults! To each bowl, add a heaping tablespoon of sprouted raw
sunflower seeds, and a tablespoon of sprouted alfalfa/clover seeds, to provide live digestive enzymes.
Mix well:
8 C rolled oats (not instant oats, which are a processed food)
1 C raw wheat germ (found in bulk at the health food store, high in B vitamins)
1 C shredded coconut (found in bulk at the health food store—not the sugar kind)
½ C freshly ground flax seeds (grind fresh, in your high-power blender)
1½ C nuts (walnuts, pecans, cashews, almonds, pumpkin seeds)
¼ C sesame seeds
2 Tbsp. cinnamon
Heat on the stove until barely melted, stirring together:
½ C honey
½ C molasses or Grade B maple syrup
½ C water
½ C coconut oil
optional: 1 Tbsp. maple flavoring or vanilla
Pour the liquid ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until distributed evenly (this takes a few minutes).
Bake at 250°, stirring well every 20 minutes for 45-90 minutes or until dry. Keep in the pantry for up to 2
weeks in cooler weather, or in the fridge for up to six weeks.
Serve the granola with nut or rice milk plus 2 Tbsp.
sprouted raw sunflower and alfalfa seeds mixed in.
To sprout sunflower seeds, cover ½ pt. of sunflower seeds with filtered water overnight, then drain in the
morning. They are now living food with vastly more enzymes and nutrients. You may also sprout raw almonds
or pumpkin seeds to add to your granola for variety as you serve it.
Note: I have changed the recipe a bit by omitting the sesame seeds, because I don't care for the flavor as much in granola, and just add more coconut instead. For the sweetener, I found that I like it better with no molasses or honey, but instead I add the same amount of Agave nectar instead. If I bake it in the oven, it takes a good long time to get crunchy, I think longer than the time indicated. But I liked the flavors even more when I dehydrated it and this way I can also add sprouted seed and not kill the enzymes in the process. Tastes great with milk or greek yoghurt!

Chocolate Almonds
2 cups raw almonds
1 Tbsp. coconut oil
2 Tbsp. date syrup
1 Tbsp. raw chocolate powder (or nonalkalized unsweetened cocoa powder)
1/4 tsp. Original Himalayan Crystal Salt
Soak your raw almonds in water overnight, then drain and allow them to air dry (an hour or two). Make sure coconut oil (warm it in hot water if necessary) is liquid, and mix all remaining ingredients well. Stir in nuts. Spread evenly on dehydrator tray and dry until no longer wet/sticky, about 14-18 hours, below 116 degrees.
Note: I didn't have date syrup, so I used Agave for this and it worked fine. I might add more of the agave and chocolate next time for a richer flavor.

Ok, I think that was all the recipes you guys were interested in. Did I miss anything?
Have a great day tomorrow, everybody!

Thanks for posting those recipes Cendrine!!! Yippeee!

Yes, very busy day. Okay, so my weight loss gal and I went to Gold's Gym and signed up for a free week. (No I'm not joining a gym.) Shame on me, but we're going to do a week at this one near my house and then another week at the one near our work. So then I can work with her for a full two weeks (for free). Shameless I know! She'll probably join one though because they have pools with free swim lessons for the kids.

Anyway tomorrow is boxing for me on our regular rotation. Then I'm meeting her to take a BodyPump class and then we're going to do some cardio and other things. Anyway, the purpose is for me to work with her. So...I better up my calories tomorrow! LOL! I plan on using VERY light weights for BodyPump so I should be okay. Then Sunday we're taking a Spin class (she's never done spinning) and that's my leg day so I think I'll do my legs later in the day.

Yeah Kim and Rachel on allllllmost finishing Meso 2! I'l looking forward to recovery week too! Then I'll get back on track with you two. Cendrine, hope you are feeling stronger every day!!!

Okay, that's my lineup for the weekend. I'll let you know how I do! I'll probably be taking a nap!

Good morning yall

Just posting before I get in there to my workout! My cat actually let me sleep this morning which never happens...then when I got up I realized DH must have been up to feed her already or else I would have been up at 4. Thank you DH!

It is my last workout and I am going to try to really concentrate on every muscle!!!!!

Jo-I don't think it is shameless at all. If they did not want you to take advantage of those free weeks , they would not offer them! I have been tossing around the idea of finding a class to take here and there, just to shock my body. I read an article about a hula hooping class that sounded like so much fun but of course every time it is offered I am working! OH well. I need to think about these things when I have time off.

Cendrine-All of those recipes sound great. I am thinking about going to the health food store today so I am really leaning toward that granola. Does it stay good along time?
I know that is hard to say if you have a lot of people eating it up because it is so yummy:D

OK off to bust out my back and bi's

Have a great DAY!
Rachel

Sorry Cendrine...just went back and read the recipe to make a list for the store and saw it can keep up to 6 weeks in the fridge! I am so excited about this granola!
BBL

Rachel, I don't actually keep my granola in the fridge, I reasoned that since I don't keep any of the ingredients in the fridge prior to making the granola, it would not need to be refridgerated afterwards.... it has worked well for us. I have a feeling you won't be the only one eating it, just don't tell your dh at it is healthy...LOL!

Jo, how fun to do one on one training at the gym with your gal! I have never heard of a gym offering free swim lessons for the kids, that is a good deal! I might join just for that....LOL!

My back recovery seems to be two steps forward one step back.... kind of slow and demanding my patience. I am not feeling so great today, but I have made progress and hope this will snap back. I have definitely had to lower my expectations on fitness level for myself, just happy to be working out some, even if it's not what I would like it to be. Slow and steady, I have to keep tell myself.

Let me know if and when you make any of the above recipes and how you liked them!
