STS 6-Month Alumni ***March 2012***

Cendrine, I have low blood pressure too. But a gal I know has really low BP (hypotension) I think (right Kim?) and she faints and gets really fatiqued. If it's just a diet thing for you than I don't think it's a worry. You know what to do about it. My friend though it's something else. Mine usually runs around 90/60 to 100/60 or 70 something like that. I think it's if it falls below 85/?? I think us being on the low end of the spectrum isn't much to worry about...it's when it goes the OTHER way! LOL!

Just made reservations for a lilttle campout weekend with friends at a fun camp place that is more like a resort....:) it's donw in San Diego and the kids are miffed that we are only staying 3 nights... But I told them it's better than nothing and that Dh has to be back at work again.

I did lower body blast again and am continuing to improve on the standing leg drill portion ( I do the premix that has none of the blasts but the added bonuses) my tendonitis is slowly getting better, so maybe I can pick up upper body workouts again soon!

Dinner tonight will be a garden tofu salad, a new recipe from the vegan cook book. Will see if it's good.

Oh, by the way, Rachel, the tempeh bacon I made turned out ok. I would not ever mistake it for the real thing, but as long as you don't expect it to be bacon, it actually tastes good and might make a yummy sandwich.

Oh Cendrine, tell me more about the tempeh bacon! DH is addicted to BLT's so anything that could make it more healthy for him would make me happy! He's always told me if we were ever on a show like the Newlywed game, that his favorite sandwich is a BLT! LOL! Seriously, he eats one everyday but is still just a slim jim!

I got so much done today homework wise. I'm feeling a lot less stressed. I still have tons to go...but my stress level has come down 50% of what it was a week ago. Stay tuned...it could change at any moment!

And with all that homework going on, I got another TM workout in again today.! Yay, I'm very pleased but it wasn't as energetic as yesterday.

Hope you're all doing well! Cendrine, I dying to get some dehydrating going on again! Looking forward to spring and summer fruits. Can you believe I had snow again this morning? Not so unbelievable for Kim's area, but unusual for us!

Tomorrow I'm working on my paper on the Cuban Missile Crisis. My books all came in today at the library and I went and picked them up. I'm excited to get started on that!

Sorry I haven't been around much this week but I'll be stopping by more this week because I'm on holidays!!!:D:D:D:D The kids have school tomorrow and then spring break although it feels more like summer break! We have had record breaking temps all week!

For sure reason I volunteered to be a judge at the Parade of homes. In the springtime all the builders have open houses of the new house designs. People can go walk through the show homes and they also have prizes given out at they end of the event. They were advertising for judges. I thought it sounded like fun since we just built a house I feel like I know what to look for, etc. It turned out to be a lot more time consuming then I realized. I had 9 houses to go view, then fill out a form about but the houses were all over the city so tons of driving! So that's what I've been doing all week, it was my rest week so that worked out well.

Tomorrow DH is going for laser surgery on his eyes to get rid of his glasses. He has terrible eyesight so that would be great. I know I found it quite painful at times so hopefully he does well then ds goes to get his braces on his teeth on Monday. Those are our big plans for the week:roll eyes: If the two of them feel well, we'll find some fun activities to do.

Jo High Fives on the running!!! Glad to hear that you got a good portion of your homework done! I remember studying the Cuban missile crisis in high school. We studied Cuban history in our Grade 11 history. Cuba is a very popular vacation destination for people around here. Canada and Cuba have strong ties

Cendrine I think with the low blood pressure you just have to be careful to ensure that you eat well, stay hydrated etc as you have an easier time with dizziness, confusion, weakness if you let it drop. It's not usually a big deal but if you know that it tends to be low you can be careful not to have episodes.

Yes, low bp is hypotension.

Are you going away this weekend, Cendrine??

I haven't worked out all week but plan to get started again tomorrow!

I don't have much time but I wanted to check in. There is a lot going on around here.
I think I might have mentioned to yall that my mom has mental issues. She has been medicated for over 20 years. Just recently it seems that her medication is not doing what it is supposed to be doing so she has admitted herself into a behavioral center to hopefully get straightened out.

I will try to update yall more thoroughly tomorrow. I have a full day with my niece's birthday and getting some things together for my mom.

I will talk to yall soon.

I've been mia a little, sorry! Just finished lower body pyramid. I think my hormones are trying to sabotage me, I feel like eating everything in sight, didn't help that the family wanted to go to rubies for dinner last night and wanted to share fries with me! I did so so, ordered a garden burger on whole wheat bun and ate only half of it, but fries sneaked in there.... Then they wanted to go to golden spoon for yoghurt. luckily they had a coffee shop right next door so I had a latte and splurged on a black current tea (loose leaf) to take home.
Tell me to hang in there and not let up....

Jo, I have been wanting to work on making more dehydrator things too. the only thing I do consistently do is the granola and sometimes I sprout some nuts, but if you have any fun things please don't be shy and share!

Growing up in Switzerland we didn't really study the cuban missile crisis, I'm sure I'll be learning about it when the kids cover it in history and am loving to learn right along with them!

The tempeh bacon is basically tempeh sliced really thinly, then soaked in a soy sauce/water 1:1 mixture with 1/4 tsp of liquid smoke and paprika, onion and garlic powder, then fry in coconut oil. The frying of the thin slices was a bit time consuming with all the turning and such, but I might try just soaking the whole piece and using it as a burger substitute or something because the flavor was good. I think it would taste good with tofu too, but make it extra firm tofu.

Rachel, sounds like lots is going on for you. I hope your mom gets the help she needs! These things can be tricky and hopefully the professionals are really good and don't misinterpret her symptoms and all. Feel free to share more as you have time!

Kim, judging houses sounds like fun! dh is looking at houses online in Portland.... He hasn't gotten an offer yet, but he feels pretty confident... He asked me what I wanted in a house. the only thing I could think of was countertops that don't have grout to keep clean! That has been my number one grievance of this house...lol! What else should I be thinking of? I figured it's still fresh enough for you, maybe you can share what you were looking for when you get a chance?

I get to go to a tea house today with a dear old friend of mine whom I only see about 3 times a year, without the kids, it will be so nice!
Have a great weekend, all of you!

Oh Rachael, I'm sure you have lots on your mind! Thanks for taking the time to update us.

Oh Cendrine, I'm with you on the temptations with food the last few days. I think it's going to be so hard with being home over spring break. DD wanted to make cupcakes today so of course I needed to sample one. There is much less temptation at work!

Cendrine, house shopping! What fun! What stress! When will dh know about the job?? I think really stopping and thinking about the layout of the house, how you will use each room with your family's lifestyle. As your kids get older they will probably want more privacy. Some of the new houses, have such a WOW factor but then when you really stop and think about it, the houses are very impractical!

DH has spent the last 2 days laying in the bed in the dark with the special glasses on:rolleyes::roll eyes: I took him down to his 24 hr followup and everything is healing well. Let's just say my recovery was quite different than his.

Back on track with workouts, disc #28 Chest/Back done yesterday and #32 Plyo Legs done today!!

At the orthodontist did you know that braces cost $5800????

DS actually not getting the braces on till June, just X-rays and stuff today.

Did a workout from hardcore extreme yesterday instead of a long run as it was cold out, DH couldn't run and ds didn't want to go.

There's definitely money to be made in orthodontics! I was not happy about my 3600.- price tag of braces without any insurance coverage, but yours is even more crazy! How is one supposed to be able to have any savings with this...!

We got peppered with a ton of listings in the Portland area and spent the larger part of yesterday weeding through the different ones. Some amazing homes on sale and the good news is they are less than what our house should sell for, if anyone can fork it out( otherwise we may have to lower the price?) I so don't know anything about this...
Kim, did you have to repaint and recarpet your house before selling? It's looking a lot like Dh will be getting a job offer... the kids saw some of the backyards, one with a forest, another with a stream, one with a pool, one more than an acre of yard! So they are actually getting rather excited. I guess here's hoping that the climate change will bring more sun to Portland... lol!

Had to take Dh to endoscopy, he was fully convinced that he was functional and not droopy and out of it. I told him he thought that after colonoscopy too and then he couldn't remember anything. He was convinced he was better than last time and promptly asked me to get him some calcium tablet that the paper said to take, which I had just handed him five min earlier....lol, he also forgot that I loaded up calcium into:rolleyes: each day of his vitamin container right in front of him and he asked me where the bottle was so he could fill up his vitamins.... clearly not affected at all...lol

Kim, hows dh doing from the surgery?

Rachel, any update on your mom?

Jo, how are your papers coming along?

Hey! I'm really behind on posting due again to homework! So will try and catch up tomorrow. But you guys, Coach Sean (cardio coach) died! Don't know the why's or what, but apparently he died yesterday. Terribly sad!

I'll check in with you guys tomorrow!

PS. He was only 40!

Jo, I read about Coach Sean, how very sad!! Cathe posted pictures of herself with him, I guess she was friends with Sean. It was funny that I was just thinking that I should start doing the cardio coach more often for my marathon training. I really enjoy Sean's workouts. Just very sad!
Good luck with all your homework!

Cendrine, we did do quite a few little minor updates in our last house. We actually had replace the upstairs carpet with flooring about 3 years before we sold because of ds's asthma so didn't need to do that. The real estate agent said that there was lots of compliments on the flooring which DH did himself, one room at at time over a year. DH really enjoys painting so he was always doing different rooms so just some little touchups before we moved. DH is not really a handy guy but the agents said the colours (he has a great colour sense) and the floors is what the buyers really commented on!
We did hire a handyman to come in for 2 days (him and a assistant) and for $1500 he did a ton of little handyman jobs, drywall repair in one spot, a new closet door for an unusual size/broken door, relevel the backyard sidewalk, stuff like that as DH isn't really a handyman and super time-consuming stuff.

We had to wait a year in the new house to paint so I'm just waiting for DH to get the paint bug as the whole house is painted a little brown/beige.

Cendrine, is DH having just routine checks, or are there any concerns?? It can be amusing to watch people come out of their sedatives.

DH has had very minimal pain but still can't see much. His vision is extremely limited and he is getting very anxious. He couldn't get the regular Lasik surgery he had to get a more complicated method (I had one eye of each) so he has special contact lenses in his eyes that are used like a bandage. We have an appointment this morning and if things have healed well enough they will come out and hopefully his vision will improve. With this type of surgery it takes a few weeks for vision to fully come back, he is supposed to work this Friday and at this point I'm not sure he could go to work. There is no way he could drive yet, and I was driving/back at work at this point. He is getting very frustrated.

Okay, I was tired of the STS/3 month transformation rotation. I wasn't going to be able to complete it before Chicago anyways. I like the new workouts but I was tired of them. I have Afterburn memorized!! So since I have lots of time on my hand I decided to have a week of compilation workouts, the 3 from Hardcore Extreme, the 3 from Terminatior and Cardio Fusion. That should get me ready for a half marathon!! So yesterday was the Gauntlet which was a mishmash of Imax2/Cardio &Weights/Boot camp, lots of fun and the day before was from Hardcore Extreme (Imax 2/KickMax and LowMax). I'm super excited about these workouts this week! Today will be another HardCore Extreme I think but has to wait till after DH's eye appt.

I'm thinking next week of doing a Cardio Coach rotation to get in more running and in memory of Coach Sean.

Wow, Coach Sean died! That was unexpected! Does anyone know what he died of? What a shock!

Kim, dh just had routine tests, all turned out great, thank goodness! I wish we had kept fixing things around here... it seems a bit daunting to go through and find all the things that need work. We have put off a lot of it because we figured this way the kids could be kids without us having to worry about new things getting messed up too much. What I'm thinking though is that I'd rather the new owner gets to paint and refloor to their taste than us take a guess and then it all gets ripped out because they want something different.... I guess when we get to talking to a realtor they will have suggestions and such for us as well. I'm not good with decorating, I love when I see something nice but I can't think it up myself or look at a space and know what it needs... color or accessory wise...
I started purging today... I figured even if something doesn't go through with the job, it won't hurt to have decluttered the house! So I tackled the kid's play room and pretty much filled a bag with things to give away and a bag with things to throw away, then I tackled the craft closet and did the same there. Dh thinks I'm going overboard....lol but you guys know me, I like to be ahead of the game as much as possible. It will still be overwhelming when the move out date finally is set and I'm sure I'll be glad for all I have accomplished before hand.

Unfortunately workout wise I have not been able to do anything this week, my back is having a flare up, not sure if it was caused by the rainstorm and the pressure change but it seems I'm not bouncing back from it. Hopefully a few more days of rest will help me get back to workout functioning status.

Kim, your rotation sounds a lot of fun! Wish I could do it with you!

Jo, I hope you get your homework done on time, looking forward to an update from you!

Rachel, hope you are doing well!

Cendrine, it's probably worth getting a real estate agent to come over now and give you some feedback on what is worth doing and what isn't. If you ever feel comfortable sending me a link to houses online, I would love to see them.:D Never hurts to do some decluttering!
Sorry to hear about the back hopefully it's a short lived flare up.

DH went to his eye appt. The protective contact lense is his right eye had slipped and the friction of it sliding around has caused an abrasion:( that is slowing down the healing. The person we saw (not the dr.) was not providing much info just sort of wait and see. He reapplied a new protective lense and prescribed antibiotic eye drops. We go back again tomorrow, hoping for some good news.

I am really enjoying the week's exercise although I wondering if I'm over doing it as I am pretty sore. Yesterday was #3 from Hardcore Extreme (Imax 2 warm up, 3 Imax 2 intervals then half of the Kick Max Blast, another 3 Imax intervals and the second half of the Kick Max Blast then the leg conditioning drills from Kick max/cool down)

Today was the Viper from the Terminator dvd. It was Cardio & Weights warm up then four cycles of cardio &weights cardio, one Imax 2 interval and 3 weight exercises from Muscle Endurance. It was 80 mins in length.

DS is having some friends over from the old neighbourhood today, he's very excited.

I had some weird dreams about the road trip last night, I think I'm a little nervous

Quiet around here, hope everyone is doing well!

We took the kids to a new hotel in the city that had a waterslide for one night just to get out of the house over spring break. Fun, we bought lots of junk food and watched tv in the room after swimming. Not much on the schedule for the rest of the weekend and then back to work Monday!

I finished the 3 HardCore extreme workouts and the 3 workouts from the Terminator this week. I think I will rest today as my left arm/neck is giving me some grief. Tomorrow we are planning on a family run, going to try for 8 miles.

OK sorry to be out so long!
I would like to day it is all due to the issues with my mom but some of it has just been laziness. Maybe I can somehow tie that all together.:rolleyes

I have to say that when my mother went into the psychiatric facility I was kind of excited (for lack of a better word) at the prospects of what they were going to do for her. She has been medicated for decades and I am not too sure that it has been medically monitored all that well. The doctor told my dad that some of the meds she was taking were the same thing so this meaning that she was being double medicated. So they were going to lower all her meds to the minimum that they could and monitor her and add back as needed. I was amazed at the improvement it seemed like she made in just a few days. I would call her everyday and she started to sound more clear. Making my feelings about that sort of medication all the more justified.
I thought she was going to be able to stay for a couple of weeks so I went out and got her somethings to make her feel more at home. A little care package. DH and I even made her some home made cards for her to open over the course of her stay. Since she voluntarily checked herself in, she could check herself out and everyday I spent my energy trying to convince her that this was helping her and that she should stay.
Well I am not sure if she is telling me the truth but 6 days after she was admitted , she was released. She says they released her and there is no way for me to know the truth but just judging by some of the things she has said I am thinking she started to feel better and so released herself.
I talked to her 2 days after she got home and she is sounding back to her old self. It is disheartening but I am going to have to except the fact that unless she is made to stay somewhere, (which is really hard to have done) she is going to be mentally unstable for the rest of her life.

Sorry to unload on ya'll but I wanted to bring ya'll up to speed.

I am still continuing with yoga. I wish I could convey what I am getting from it. Although I love Cathe, yoga is not her forte so her dvd's are not really representative of what I am doing. I have got so much more connected to myself since starting. I guess getting a self awareness that I have never had and it is really addictive. I am hoping that when I do incorporate cardio and weights back into my days that I will be able to use that same awareness.

Cendrine-I don't blame you one bit for getting out in front of the curve. I would be doing the exact same thing. I can not imagine a move to another state so I think the more you get done ahead of time is going to at least save you that stress in the long run. Very Smart, indeed.;)

Kim-Chicago is going to be here before you know it. I am very excited for you! Maybe one day we can all meet up at an rt!

Jo-It sounds like you have busied back up with homework.
I am sorry about Coach Sean. I know you loved his workouts.
