~~~STS 6 Month Alumni-Jan. 9 2011~~~
Good Morning Good Morning!
Well so far we have a rain/sleet combo so just really nasty outside. The puppies have been in all night and I had to coax them out in the rain to go to the restroom this morning and I swear our boy dog just faked it so he could get back in really fast...LOL Their little bodies must go into hibernation mode when the weather is like this because they come in and don't move for hours!
It is a rest day for me and since the weather is so nasty I am making a big pot of beef stew and curling up with either an old movie or a book...probably a little of both.
Jo-Congratulations on the wonderful test scores. I agree with Cendrine...You are such a hard worker!
I forgot to ask you how Ibo did when he was left home alone? He must have did pretty well since there were no hijinks reported. LOL
It seems like you are getting caught up a little and back on schedule a bit. I don't think you would be happy if you weren't busy with something! LOL
Cendrine-It is just wonderful that you are getting sore but no pain! Sometimes it seems like we are never going to heal from this or that and then one day we wake up and realize that certain so and so doesn't hurt any more. I am elated for you. I know it is a great feeling.
So I guess the table you took back is not the one you traded it for? It still sounds like you are very happy with what you got though!
Kim-I would be just like your DH...very curious about the whole thing. At least that gives you a little bit of an out let with what you can talk about. I would have a very hard time not talking the details with my DH so I know it must be hard for you too.
Well now that you explained that jury pool thing it makes way more sense to me:eek: I thought 54 seemed really low. I thought the stereotype of the nice Canadian must be true if they could find 14 in 54...LOL:p I still think it is true though..;):D
I am sure it is going to be an adjustment when the trial starts with the move and everything but maybe since you are aware of your time crunch now...It will help you get the jump on everything that needs to be done...i.e. the address changes and things like that. I am like that when I know we have a big job coming.
Have a great day!
Hi guys!
Rest day for me! I feel like my body really needs it! Again, I'm glad I'm doing the 6.5 month rotation. I just feel less rushed this way!
Rachel, your doggies sound so cute! Don't we wish we could just curl up and not move for hours on days like that!
The stew sounds wonderful as well! If I had the ingredients in the house, I might follow suit! But I don't feel like going out.
Kim, I'll post some pics of the table when I get a chance! The story with the table was this. We were going to get one to match with what we already have in the living room. But then dh saw a clearance set that looked heavier duty on a different website and ordered it. Had I taken a good look I would have seen that it was antique white, aka vanilla... which would not match.... so when it came damaged, I wasn't all that upset because the picture looked completely white but the table actually was a lot more yellow. So when they gave us the option of cancelling the order rather than reorder, I jumped on it and talked dh into going back to Ikea.... And we are very happy with what we got. I would have got the bigger one, there were two tables with the same style but one was seating up to 10 and ours seats up to 8. If we pulled out this one that we have now it would be as big as the other one without the extension put in. The table is a lot deeper and we are already getting used filling it all , didn't take us long to get used to the bigger size...LOL! The bigger one would have been a good option for growing into as I'm sure there will be more people sitting around the table as time goes by, but realistically we would have had to get more chairs to not make the table look empty and right now that didn't seem to make a lot of sense... We are using the table without the extension for every day use and it's still bigger than what we had. So it's nice!
I bet ds will want you to tell him all about the case once it's over! Might be a good way for you to get closure on it? It's good you know your kids so well and are only telling dd what you know she can handle. Once she gets older, she may be interested to hear about it.
I have a cardio question for you all before I sign off. I am doing cardio 6 days a week until my holiday indulgences are no longer on my body....:eek: So far I've been doing some kind of interval, either easier intervals or hiit style ones because they are reported to give the best long term calorie burn results, plus on sts days I don't have time for more than 30min. If you were doing 6 days of cardio a week and three of those days were 30 min sessions with weights to follow and the other three were followed by abs circuit, what kind of plan would you have? I'm thinking, I should at least do one ss per week, but how else might you plan out your cardio so you don't overtax but at the same time so you also maximize the time? I was thinking of maybe doing more easy cardio on weight days and then do hiit style on the other? I'd love to hear your thoughts!
Started week 2 of the Jan rotation with Body Max 2, DH was going to do it with me but too much step for him so he did the upper body part and then did S&H Chest/Back. I'm not sure if he's made a New Year's resolution or what but he is sure working out consistently.
DH wanted to drive over to the house this morning, I had been there on Friday but he hadn't been there in a week. We didn't think anyone would be there on a sunday am but there was a drywaller working in the basement:D and there was a sales rep showing the house to potential buyers! They don't have a show home with that floorplan anymore so I guess they are using our house! We were surprised to see our house full of people!
Rachael Has the weather improved at all? Hope you had a cozy relaxing day!
Cendrine I think you shouldn't do intervals on back to back days. I think you should alternate steady state with some type of interval. The steady state could be hills somedays?
Well most of the Ark-LA-Tex is closed down...We got about 2 inches of snow here and that is enough to close schools in the morning but I think everyone to the north and east of us was pelted with ice and then got snow so they are dealing with power outages too. Luckily we are still with power.
I have been a couch potato all day:eek: There really isn't too much else to do around here so I spent the day not doing much at all...LOL I will make up for it tomorrow with the 90 min workout though:eek:
Cendrine-I do agree with Kim about splitting the intervals up. Are you sticking with all tm workouts for now? I wasn't sure if you were able to fit any low impact step in too. It seems like Cathe put lighter cardio on the weight days so that would probably be a good idea though. I am the same way with time so I know what you mean about needing it to be short and to the point. You might just take a look at some of her fat burning January rotations to get some ideas of how she added in the cardio and then just modify it to what you are doing...i.e the Hiit tm style workouts you are doing. I hope that helped. I am sure Jo is going to bring something brilliant since it is definitely her strong suit. I think Jo and Kim are so good at juggling all these things!:D
Kim-You would think we are such wieners! LOL
It has stopped snowing but it is going to be cold cold for the next few days so I don't think it is going to start to melt until Tues. unless the sun comes out tomorrow which I think is iffy. I am setting here in my long johns and wool socks:rolleyes:
Is DH the type to keep his resolutions to himself so they might not get spoiled? I feel like if I made them I would keep them to myself. It just seems like once you talk about it they kind of are forgotten. So cool that he is kicking butt though. Maybe he is working off the moving stress too.
Jo-I hope you had a day off but knowing you I am sure you were studying or testing or doing laundry! ;) Regardless I hope it was a good day for you!
Alright off to bury my nose in my kindle! Have a great night!
Hello Fitness BFF's!!! :D Once again we were without Internet part of the day. We think we need our Linksys replaced as we checked with the cable company and they pinged to our house. So going to look at it more this week. I did start today with a 4:00 a.m migraine wakeup. I got up and took some medicine and then was in and out of it until 10:00. Finally got up and then was rid of it about noon. DH was out clearing/raking up debris around the fence (now we got some cleanup to do from cut trees, branches, etc.) and then it started to snow - not much - just enough to get DH to come in. I made some kale soup for lunch bunch tomorrow and then about 2:00 got going on my homework (internet back on). In between I was doing laundry and just sat down about 9:00. I feel good I got a good jump on Week 2 of classes! I'm concerned about staying ahead since Statistics has so much work. :D;) Oh and at 7:00 I had to dial on to listen/watch a live online lecture - glad I did as it explained a bunch of the homework. :D
Rachel, how is that KINDLE??? :eek::cool: Tell me what you're reading and everything you LOVE about it! Isn't it just the best thing EVER?? I cannot believe you got two inches of snow! I'll bet your puppies want to be inside! LOL! I'm glad you relaxed today and gave yourself a break! It does a body good! You're right it was a good productive day for me today! I'll go to bed feeling accomplished!
Cendrine, I love your table story! Don't you love it when things work out that way? It looks like it's going to be a hassle and then it all works out in the end! I'm going to give you some cardio input on the next post. But I did want to say I'm so glad you're getting a lot of usage out of that vest! Isn't it just the handiest prop to help with our workouts? Especially when we have some restrictions! I can't remember if I told you this, but I just have the 10 lb vest not the later one (20 lbs?) with the adjustable weights...that's what you purchased right?
Kim - GO SEAHAWKS!! Yeah, how about that? Exciting game! Well I'm glad the schedule is going to be doable for you but again, I know this is a pain in your patootie! Kudos to your DH! My goodness your house is just a hub of activity! I can't believe how close it is to you moving! Everyone must be getting excited. You know one thing about this whole trial thing, though I know you're dreading it, it may be a real eye opener to you about your judicial system and learning about all the different perspectives people bring. It may be really interesting. (Are you rolling your eyes at me? :))
Cendrine, I'll start another post...
Cendrine, tell me what you're doing for cardio besides TM. Are you doing any light jumping? That will help me give you better advice. Bottomline, you don't want to overdo on HIIT because you will overtax your joints but it does depend on what you're doing, and you want to be careful of your back. :D However, fit girls like us can usually take more. ;) Also, if you do too much along with STS, you could end up overtraining and that would be counter productive to your goals! It's just a fine balance isn't it? Anyway, here's a suggestion until you tell me more.
M - Disc 4 - Chest, Shoulders, Biceps/light interval
T - Abs Circuit/HIIT
W - Disc 5 - Back and Triceps/walk (I wouldn't do HIIT on back days)
T - Abs Circuit/light interval
F - Disc 6 Legs / walk
S - Abs Circuit/HIIT
S - REST REST REST!!!
This give you 2 of each style per week and shouldn't overdo you on back or leg days. If I'm off base on what you're doing or trying to accomplish, let me know. Maybe this was the direction you were going anyway and I'm just confirming??? Also, I'm putting walk in not knowing if you're doing step...otherwise I have other suggestions.
Oh forgot to give you Ibo update. He is a maniac! He did really well by himself the other day. Nothing was torn up, no scratch marks on the doors or cabinets! :D So he's getting more and more comfortable. He's getting to know our noises so when I came home Friday, he came running after he heard me come home. DH and I have separate garage openers so mine sounds a little different than his. Of course when DH comes home, you'd think he'd been gone forever! He has ripped apart and destroyed every toy he's been given (except the kong ball) but if you tell him no to something, he doesn't bother it again (like my workout mat!) Today he was outside with DH and just running around like crazy enjoying the freedom! He does want to play alot and barks at DH to play with him. So far, that's the only time he barks!! He hasn't barked at anything else. There was a dog that came up to the fence and he just wanted to play...no barking...but I think that will change once he has his territory defined; it's still to new! I should add, DH is a maniac too! He also plays with him nonstop! I play as time allows! I'm so glad we got him - he's the funnest thing that's happened to us!
Okay, now I'm off to read with my Kindle! ;)
Happy Monday! Am at work but just got back from PT. I'll try and give you full update on my shoulder later. Just wanted to drop in and say HI! Well DH wore Ibo out enough last night that DH had to get Ibo up this morning! LOL! Talk about getting comfortable! :D;):p My soup was a hit with the lunch bunch!
Rachel how's that snow working for you today? ;)
Hi Kim and Cendrine! Talk to you all later!
Second round of disc 1 done today! It felt a bit harder than the first time around, but that is kind of how it felt last time too, maybe because I was knowing what to expect and really got into it? I also did an uphill tm walk with the vest.
Jo, yes, on the vest, it's awesome! It keeps me motivated, because it allows me to keep up the intensity and calorie burn, and if I didn't have it and with me not being able to run, I would feel like I'm getting nowhere...Totally love it! And yes, I have the 20lb vest that can be adjusted.
I needed to hear you guys, all three of you, reining me in from all the intervals...LOL! So like a good girl that I am, I listened and didn't do intervals today....LOL!
I am not taking risks yet as far as stepping goes, so it's all low impact tm with my only tools for upping intensity being the incline on the tm and the vest, I'm not running or jumping at all. So in that respect it's easy on the joints, but maybe down the line as I improve I might add in some step here or there, so let me know what your thoughts are on step, too, Jo!
You were confirming what I was sort of thinking about in doing Hiit on non sts days and walks on weight days, thanks for mapping it out so nicely!
Ibo is such a good dog! You tell him no once and he doesn't touch it again? Boy, I think my kids need to go to doggie school for K-9s LOL!
I'm glad you got the migraine under control and were able to get some stuff done, including the online thing that helped you with your assignements!
Rachel, amazing that you got that much snow! How are things today?
Thanks for your cardio input!
And you too, Kim, thanks for letting me know your thoughts! I really did need to hear it! I know I tend to go overboard sometimes and then burn out or something like that, instead of going steady at a more reasonable pace!
How nice that your dh is working out so regularly! I hope my dh catches your dh's bug! LOL!
Cendrine,
The only reason I would have you do intervals and HIIT back to back is because I didn't think you were doing the hardcore Cathe stuff. So by light intervals I mean LITE! Like alternating walking and power walking. :D What are you doing for HIIT and intervals? That would help me too. Tell me everything... :D
Wow it is a late check in for me!
I got up this morning and had to baby sit the pups up the driveway a bit to do their morning business and that took a little while. I think they are a little tired of being cooped up but the only thing that shows that is their mopey attitudes.:rolleyes: Otherwise you wouldn't know it by how fast they try to get back in mostly. DH and I were up last night at about 2:30 in the morning because they wanted a little outside time. First of course he got up and I followed suit after peeling myself off the bed...so I feel your pain a little Jo. Most nights ours go through the night without fail but I think DH is nervous they will have an accident even though they haven't in 10 yrs! LOL Any how if he wakes up in the middle of the night he will ask them if they want to go out and most of the time one or both will want to. I don't really mind when we are not working. It is not like it is going to make me tired for something important, right...haha
I did get up and do my BM2 workout...all 90 minutes and without lowering the step so I was super proud of that fact...although some of it was definitely not up to Cathe par alot of it, I even impressed myself...LOL that is not saying much but it is alot to me!:D
Cendrine_It seems like I remember STS being the same way for me. Tougher the second week that is! I knew Jo would come through with some great suggestions. SHe is so good at that...I think that is why she is the fitness guru at her work place...DOn't you;)
I was just talking to DH today about how weird it was for us to get this kind of snow. Last year we had a lot and usually it would be yrs before we got any more significant snow so this is really weird for us. It really brings me back to being a kid because we just wished and wished for snow every yr.
Jo-WHat is not to love about the kindle!!!It is the greatest invention ever right!!!? Aside from the fact that there are free books and games, which I did not even know before I got it, I love dl samples right now that is just my favorite thing. I really am into that Every word game too. DH and I compete with each other on that. And love love love the dictionary function. Now instead of having to wait if I am in bed and I come across a word I don't know, it is at my finger tips! I just love that too. I think how great this is going to be for the next generation. I am knd of embarrassed to admit that the first book I dl'ed was Are you there VOdka, It's me Chelsea? LOLI think next it will be either The Boxcar Kid, which I happened upon kind of accidentally or I think it is called Fireflies in December...I dl'ed samples of both of those and they really got me hooked the first few chapters. I just love the freedom of not having to go to the book store!
I just know I would love Ibo! With the toy thing he sounds like my bff's lab. He gets new "babies" (thats what she calls them) and he can not help him self, he tears them up so fast. LOL
Kim-I did forget to metion how great your supervisor is being about this whole jury duty thing. I know she doesn't have a choice with the JD but the week after you are done, being off might just be what you need! Are you still debating on that or have you decided?
I hope you all are having a great day...I have not posted pics yet because we are waiting for a new modem. The one we have goes in and out of connection so it is really iffy if I will not wait for it to post and nothing happen.
Just finished IMAX 3, hadn't done that one in awhile so it was fun.
Had a normal day today, YAY! It finally felt like a regular day, no Christmas holidays, no driving to strange buildings just a nice normal day.:D
We had a moving company come to the house after work and get us a quote for moving. I phoned the builders and she said they could probably reschedule our walkthrough so I wouldn't miss it all. She was going to explain my situation to the guys that do the owner walkthroughs and see if one would come in early that morning.
Jo I have come to the point that I'm starting to think that some of this trial thing will be quite interesting. Some coworkers did many those comments last Friday and I was probably do the eyerolling thing but I think you are right. Did I tell you I finished book 3 of the Girl with the Dragon Tatto triology, I didn't think it was nearly as good as the first two.
Rachael My manager and I are going to decide about the vacation thing later. I have 2 full weeks of holidays to use up before the end of April. I was going to use one to move and one for the kid's spring break (end of March) If they arrange for someone to cover my caseload for 6 weeks it would be probably be easy for them to stay 7 weeks and I can use up one week of holidays and that would give me some decompression time.
Cendrine There's nothing wrong with doing some days as steady state walks. I just remember from my marathon training days we would do some days tempo runs, interval runs, long slow steady state runs, sprint days or hill days.
Kim, I'm glad life is coming to a more normal flow for now! And how nice that the walkthrough might be rescheduled for you! It seems like most people really sympathize and like to help make it easier. Thanks for the marathon training tip, it really makes sense!
Rachel, your Kindle stories make me want to get one.... LOL! I tried to download a book on my phone the other day and it just didn't work. I thought I was doing something wrong, but dh wasn't able to get it either. So there must be a hiccup....
I remember when I was a kid, I always hoped there would be so much snow that the school would close, but in all the years it never happened once. I suppose it would have helped to have lived in the mountains....:rolleyes:
Jo, my tm has an incline setting option from 1 to 10 (not sure if that corresponds to the % incline or not but that is all I can do with it. So I do the Cathe Hiits with recovery at 4 incline and high at 10 incline, all the while walking at 4mph and at the moment 13lb on my vest. I do the same thing for the 40/20 and the 30/30. I haven't looked at the double wave load format, so haven't tried that one. When I do intervals on an easier level, I might start at 4 for a minute, go to 5 for a minute, then back down to 4, then up to 6, down to 4, up to 7, down to 4, up to 8 etc all the way up and then down and up again all the way depending on how much time I've got. The speed is pretty much 4mph (kind of don't like to go much faster because I have short legs so it really makes me feel like I'm semi running if I go more than 4.5mph.) Or I've also done intervals of high for 2min and recovery for one minute. That kind of stuff. For steady state today I walked at 4mph at incline 6 with the vest. I hope all of this makes sense...;) So as you can see, no high impact, but definitely extra weight to hopefully make up for some of that...
Well so far I have worked out, made granola and mopped all the floors in the house and then mopped puppy tracks up again.:rolleyes: I guess it is a small price to pay when they are inside and cute as can be following me around the house like I am a snack dispenser of some kind...LOL
We still have to make a trip to Sam's but I was waiting until the granola was done. We got a call on a job today that is supposed to start at the end of Jan so that was a nice surprise. It is not too big. It is a vet clinic and is about 3000 square feet but it should keep us busy for a little bit and then there are 2 schools that are coming up pretty quick after that so my life of leisure might soon be over. It seems like most days around here are pretty busy with this or that though so I don't feel like I have lazed around too much. Not counting the last few days though:eek: It was cloudy snowy and cold and for some reason that takes most of my mojo away...I don't see how you , Kim and Jo, do it! Everyday one more thing that impresses me! haha:D
Cendrine- I know you would love the kindle! It stinks that you couldn't get the one on your phone to work. The double wave pyramid goes something like this...(I might not be exact with the timing) You start off going for 20 or 25 secs. then you rest for the same amount of time, then it goes up 5 secs. each time. I don't have that one here so I can't remember how high up it goes...I want to say to about 45 sec intervals...then you go back down the pyramid. That cycles through 2 times. I think between the first and second time around you get a minute rest. It sounds like you are getting real creative with the tm though!
Kim-YAY for the normal day...It is always nice when you feel like things are getting back to business as usual. You have had so much with vacation then holidays and moving and JD. So after that is over, I think you will be ready for a real break and maybe a little time to enjoy your new house.
I hadn't done IM3 in forever so I got mixed up a couple of times but it was fun. When I started I was not sure if I was going to do the whole thing but I made it through it...barely...lol Still counts though!
Jo-I know you are having a busy week because you are always having a busy week;) Hope you are getting some sun. Do yall leave Ibo out now while yall are gone?
I did a tm 30/30 today plus weights and plates abs. That's one I need to throw in there often so I can get better at it...:eek:
Rachel, I'm glad to hear you have some jobs lined up! How cute that the puppies are following you around all day...;) My kids would absolutely love that kind of attention! Our cat more often than not avoids them, they do try hard to be nice, though...
I have finally made an appt for the derm tomorrow, so hopefully I can get my skin cleared up fast... getting kind of sick of it....
I hope you guys are doing well, Kim and Jo!
Double workout on the rotation today, did Muscle Max and a 30 min treadmill run. The plan was to do a run before work but that didn't happen so did both back-to-back tonight. Now watching TBL.
Cendrien, we were the same as you, never once had a snow day, I guess that just never happens in place that are used to snow. The two biggest blizzards that in my lifetime (1986 and 1997) both happened over weekends so schools might have closed if it was a weekday. The schoolbuses don't run at temps below minus 35 because they are diesel but then parents usually just drive. We've been lucky we haven't had the really cold weather this winter just lots of minus teens/twenties. That plate work is hard in the ab workout!
Jo I'm sure those puppies are going to miss you when you go back to work! Is the weather going to warm up for you soon?
Hi! Just time to pop in and let you know I'm here. It's another couple of those days where I don't have a minute to spare. Was up until 2:00 a.m. doing homework and now, obviously, up late and got to get going. We had 6 inches of snow last night and now it's turned to rain (yeah!) so I'm off to work.
TTYL!
Sounds like stinky weather, Jo! We are still cold and still have snow on the ground but the sun is out so the puppies are out basking in it.
This morning I did MM and then the cardio from cardio and weights...I love the cardio from that. So fun. So I feel good and worked out.
Not too much other than that going on today.
DH is going to shoot his first short movie this weekend so he is getting geared up for that. He wanted me to do a little part in it but I am terrible at that sort of stuff so I opted out but I will be there to help him out. So that is all I have got:rolleyes:
Well just now a monkey wrench got thrown into that. DH asked my bf to do the part of the girl and she said she would try if I would so now I feel kind of obligated to try at least...ICK I am already sweating.
Disc 2 and tm uphill walk done! I think I'm going light on the weights, because I don't feel a bad burn, but I had my chiro appt today and she could tell my back was out of alignment all around the shoulders....And I decided to stick with the tubing instead of doing chinups, and here I am still doing too much.... LOL! I guess I can't help it. But it was a fun workout! The band really does bring on the burn big time! No weights needed there!
I just got back from the dermatologist with my prescriptions, hopefully it's gonna clear sooner than in a month, which is when he said I could expect it to get better....
Rachel, I'm amazed you still have snow! And I would be like you about having a part! Can't wait to hear how it went!
Jo, sorry you are having to stay up so late! I hope you get time for some spinning today!
Kim, how's life in the cold north? ;)
