~~~>STS 6 month alumni-+1 ;) Week of May 15<~~~
Well since it is going to be a high octane day of running all over the place and ending at my FIL's this afternoon to pick onions and dig potatoes, I thought I better check in now.
Yep you heard me right, there are already things that need to be picked from the garden. So to lure us over to help;) he is grilling some ribs. SO now I have to try and talk them into some healthy side dishes. I am thinking we might be using up some of those freshly dug up new potatoes...YUM.
But before all that I have a ton of errands to get done because I am embarrassed to admit that I did not do a darn thing yesterday...
I hope yall are all having a fantastic weather weekend. You are not going to believe that we are in the 40's this morning.:rolleyes: I think this will be the last bit of cool before the heat so I am going to try and soak it up.
Have a great SUNDAY!
Rachel
Beautiful sunny day here. Not hot but warmish. Only a couple of things on the agenda, 4DS Kickboxing and company for dinner. I'm going to try and clean off the deck and maybe use it for the first time!
Yesterday I did get Boot Camp done.
I'm getting the local paper on my Kindle. I love reading the newspaper and have it delivered daily so thought I would try the 2 week free subscription to see it I would like it. I actually really like reading it on the Kindle except for 2 issues, I don't get the store flyers and dd wants to get the comics:cool:
DH went and picked up the camper yesterday, he set it up but we can't seem to get the water pump going. It also needs a good clean if we're going to use it next week. So between the house, deck and camper I'm going to busy cleaning today.
Patricia I hope you're getting some nice cottage weather!
Jo How did the haircut turn out?? Are you getting any fun time this weekend?
Cendrine Are you finish with school for the year?? I remember the scout camp from last year. It's going to be a busy summer for you with swimming, camps! Did you and DH decide to do some camping? What happend with his job??
Rachael I'm so glad that your ankle wasn't hurt! Enjoy the fresh veggies!
We had a scouting thing going on yesterday, something where all the troops from all of Orange County attend, they say it has between 25000 to 30000 people there throughout the day! We were responsible for the rocket booth, that is for the 8-9am shift, which was awesome, because it had already a line of cars waiting for parking and second, we were done and could enjoy the day after that. The event was huge, I had not been before and we were there from 8-3 and didn't even get close to seeing half of everything. the kids enjoyed all kinds of projectile weapon booths, some rope bridge challenges and even some cooking over a fire. It was fun but cold. When we got home I was so beat and my back acted up that I went to bed at :eek: 7pm :eek: and slept straight through til 6:30 am ! I must be getting old!
But it was a lot of fun. We tried to lay low today for the most part. Starting our last week of school before break this week! I'm looking forward to a slower pace and less things to check off my list every day!
Kim, dh's job was a dead end, they said he was over qualified... So nothing happening there. From the way it looks we'll go camping once this summer so far on a weekend. Nothing big, but maybe a good start since we haven't done it before.
I'm not taking muscle relaxants this week because I want to get back into working out, and just seem too tired when on them.:rolleyes:
Rachel, how did the harvesting go? We are getting close to harvesting our first squash here too. Dh is disappointed, he thought the plants he bought were half zucchini and half winter squash, but from the looks of it they are all winter squash... Any recipes, you guys?LOL!
Patricia, I don't know if I'm going to homeschool throughout the high school years. I kind of am taking one year at a time, but we are enjoying ourselves a lot and loving the curriculum, so for the time being I think we are going to keep at it. Can't beat the flexibility!
Jo, thanks for your input on the Huskies. The person who I got the info from currently owns 14 huskies, all rescued from a shelter, where people dump them after they realize that they are more work than they had thought. I figured if he can live with 14 huskies it can't be as bad as he said (living with a 2 year old for 14 years... ) :) Still, not ready for the commitment, but I do love the way they look... LOL!
Hi Girls! Sorry I missed the whole weekend! I'll give you a quick rundown and then I'll get back later for personals.
Saturday, instead of doing homework, it was 65 degrees here - YAY!!! So I went and messed around all day with DH. We took Ibo to a park on the water (he loves it) and ran by the grocery store. Then took Ibo to the vet (he has conjungtivitis sp? type thing caused by a little allergy) and got some eye drops for his eye. Then the rain came and it has been pouring every since...but back to the story. About 4:00 as we were heading home so I could get going on homework, a client of DH called and said he had two extra tickets to the Sounders game (soccer) and this is their first game in the major league. Well, I've never been to a soccer game so we dropped Ibo off at home and went! Didn't get home until midnight. Oh yeah and had to pick up rain coat, etc. It had immediately cooled off and did I mention...it was pouring! Anyway, I had on t-shirt, sweatshirt, down vest and then on top of all that my big 3/4 length raincoat. I stayed warm, dry on the inside and wet on the outside! LOL! Then yesterday I was up at 8:00 and did homework until midnight last night trying to catch up! (Had to throw that laundry in to!) Whew! There you go.
Okay, that was the quick update - got to go jump in the shower and get going. Ibo sends his love!
Oh quick mention - the soccer game was CRAZY!!! Soccer fans are way different than football and basketball fans. The Sounder colors are blue and green and people had painted faces and hair and screamers! They seem to be a rougher crowd than football fans. Well, drunk too! LOL! They said there was 37000 people there. The game was a tie. Oh, and we had great seats, but the people stood the entire ENTIRE game. So my back was a little sore from standing for 2 hours. But I was dry! :D Yes my old Eddie Bauer YELLOW rain coat with big pockets and hood that is like 15 years old has never failed me! Alright...now I'm off to the shower!
Wow, Jo, you had a busy weekend! Sounds like fun!
I just did Low Impact Step (the circuit premix) the copy works great, no freezing on it! I think I'm going to spend some time this week planning out circuit workouts for three days a week and extra cardio on the other days for the duration of summer as a rotation of some kind. I can't wait for the low impact series! Jo, did you read the article about spin bikes? Makes me want to get one! :eek: The money I spend on workout stuff, I better not keep track... LOL!
Rachel, it got down to 44°F here last night, I was so cold I could not go to sleep, so I finally pulled out the heating pad...:rolleyes: Poor kids, their swimlessons start today, and it's 52°F outside... I know they will have the pool heated, but boy is it going to be rough getting out.... :eek:
Hi Kim and Patricia!
Good Monday!
I am starving so this might be quick:p
FIL"S went great for the first few hrs and then I made the mistake of sitting on the patio couch that I guess the dog likes to lay so when he started jumping up there with me he stirred up all that pet dander and I swole up and sneezed my head off. I even went to bed super early and slept really hard all night and still woke up with swollen eyes.:rolleyes: Better now though.
So the harvest was 2 yellow summer squash and I am not even sure how many pounds of new potatoes and 4 onions. But now I am wondering on the onions if I was supposed to leave the stems on and let them dry out outside. Do yall know anything about picking fresh onions? I guess I need to google that. I am sure if I was going to use them up really fast that would be one thing. But it will take me a little bit to use them.
This mornings workout was MMA KB. Thank goodness because I needed a little lighter pace for my swollen face. haha
Jo-So was the soccer game inside or out? I would figure it would have to be inside if they did not cancel it but if you were getting wet...not sure.
It does sound like you used up all the good weather you could though. ;)
Kim-Are yall going somewhere for Victoria's Day? I hope your DH figured out what the deal was with the water pump. Is the camper parked at your house now?
Cendrine-WOW I did not know such an event happened for the boy scouts but you are right about being able to get your thing over with early so you could enjoy the rest of the day.
I probably would have slept the same as you too. LOL
Poor kiddos on the swim lessons. Do you think dd is going to enjoy them more this year.
Hi Patricia...Hope you had a nice weekend at the cottage.
OK guys must go feed the machine.;):p
Just finished MMA KB, I agree Rachael, it's nice to have a lighter workout.
Cendrine The scout event sounds like fun but exhausting!! How is the back doing without the muscle relaxants??
Jo The soccer game sounds like fun even with the rain. THere was a guy from Ireland (moved here 2 years to marry a local lady he met on vacation in the Caribbean) on the jury who was obsessed with soccer!! We thought he was going to have a nervous breakdown when we were sequestered as he needed to know the soccer scores. The staff actually went and found out the scores for him to calm him down:rolleyes: I think soccer fans can be quite fanatic.
Rachael, So sorry about the allergies! We are going to my mom's cottage for the long weekend, and will bring the camper for extra sleeping room. It's set up on the driveway right now and dd is spending lots of time playing in it!
Patricia Any ice left on the lake at the cottage?? My MIL's cottage is in the flood zone so they are all sandbagged. Did you hear the Jets might come back:rolleyes: :rolleyes:Now there is talk about buying the Atlanta
Thrashers. If you are sick of this subject yet, I've heard it daily since 1996!!
Hi again! Oh my gosh Cendrine, the scouting thing sounds fun! But good for you guys for getting in and out! Back to the huskies. One thing about big dogs is they do need more exercise than a little dog. So that could be part of the problem too. DH takes IBO on at least 3 walks with him during the day and we play some every night but I still think it's not as much as when they are young dogs. Plus since Ibo was search and rescue he was use to being very active. (He's digging being a house dog though!) :D Huskies are the same way. But, if they are trained well, they will be still when you tell them too and they pretty much sleep the rest of the time. MY GF that had the husky - she just walked her every day (her name was Tosha). But even when they are old dogs, they still like to play but they do calm down! Also, they are generally more active when they are with other dogs. Rachel can probably chime in on her dogs too.
Rachel, you poor poor girl! I'm sneezing thinking about you! The stadium is partially covered. So for our weather, it's actually better to be in the nose bleed section! :D We were 15 rows up from the field and sitting right below where the roof starts. Here's a link to the stadium and you can see what I'm talking about. Qwest Field So that's why it depended on which way the wind was blowing whether I was hood up or hood down! :p Good news though, the weather will be getting nice again tomorrow and we MAY hit 70 on Friday!! Yippee!! I feel a sick day coming! Rachel you should let your onions sit outside for a day or two. You should leave the stems on, but it won't really hurt anything if you already cut them off. Part of the reason is they are still receiving nutrients from the stems. But if the stems were already wilted then you should cut them off. What kind of onions?
Kim, oh my gosh, I'm totally laughing about the soccer guy! That's how these people were! DH also has a friend that's crazy about it like that too! Don't forget TBL tomorrow! And then there were four... I am hitting the gym tomorrow night. Yay, like Rachel, I was wondering where you have the camper - I'm glad DD is making good use of it for you! LOL! :p Are you guys planning to spend more time in the new house this summer since you have yard to do or are you still going to try and get away as much as you can?
Well, I got my acct homework done and I'm all caught up to where I want to be. I have two papers to write this week, but I'm organized on that as well so NOTHING will stop me from spinning tomorrow night!
Time for bed, it's almost midnight! Hello Patricia!!!
HAPPY TUESDAY!!!
YES IT IS!!!
Went to PT this morning, the sun is shining and I've got my lulu's with me to go SPIN tonight! YIPPEEEE!!!!!
Hope you all are having a GREAT day! Oh happy happy!!!
Kim, I had to laugh about the soccer fan jury duty guy too! How funny! It's hard for me to understand that kind of enthusiasm...:rolleyes:;)
Jo, I'm so glad you are caught up and get to go spinning! Have a great workout!
Rachel, are your eyes all better?
Our swim lessons got cancelled for the week as the swim teacher and his 2yr old son are both hit with a virus and the wife and the older son are in china for 3 weeks, so he's having to rough it himself.... Won't know if lessons will be on again next week or not. But with it being the coldest May on record, I don't really mind the schedule change... LOL!
Yes Jo it was a happy Tuesday!;)
I got a great STS Total Body workout done this morning and then we went to work and rocked there too. It feels good when things just go right.
Jo-I am getting so into Dragonfly in Amber, I am honestly having a hard time putting it down every night. But I have to because I have to go to bed. LOL I have to think "OK what is important here...workout in the morning or one more chapter" ? lol Sometimes it is very hard to pick workout. :D
The onions are yellows and reds. They look good but I thought about leaving the stems on them only after I had ripped them off:rolleyes:. Oh well I will remember next time.
Cendrine-Yes eyes are all better. If I get an allergy attack late in the day it normally gives me a little whammy the next day too. Uggghhh...so annoying.:rolleyes: Yes I think it was a sign that yall should not be in the pool this week.haha The kiddos lucked out.
Kim-haha on the "fanatic". I am so glad DH is not really a sport guy. My brother watches nothing but sports on tv when he can. Drives me nuts but I love him. DH is more of a doer than a watcher I guess.
I hope the long weekend is more fun than work.Have yall been up there this yr yet?
OK off to get a few chapters in.
TTYT
Morning All
My first breather in a few days. Rain rain rain go AWAY:( This weather is really getting to me.
We only went to the cottage for the day Saturday. DH had arranged to have satelite (sp?) installed. Since it called for rain I said I want to come back same day. So got home late Sat. night. I took the opportunity of being home to paint my spare room about to become my workout room PURPLE :D so busy all day Sunday doing that then of course the season finale of SURVIVOR - way to go Boston Rob!
Just way too tired Monday night - I went to bed at 7:30 and read instead of working out.
Last night after taking DS to soccer I got in High Step Training.
Kim - the ice came out about mid-April - we're boat access only and usually start going to the cottage end of April early May. The bugs are out already though. We're on the hunt for outdoor furniture now for our newly built screened in porch. So until we get that, we're stuck sitting inside. I'd rather be at home until June when its warmer. I do hope your Mom's cottage doesn't get flooded. Sounds like the sandbags will be enough if you're spending time there this weekend though. DH says that Phoenix will only be there for another year though - so you still have some hope of getting them eh! I thought of you when I heard about the Thrashers. A real roller coaster ride.
Cendrine - we might be doing some similar workouts this summer. I've been thinking of concentrating on circuit w/os and adding in extra cardio whenever I can too. I for one would be glad the swimming lessons were cancelled. I'm so glad that the soccer DS is in this spring in indoors!
Jo - I guess I'm starting to become a soccer Mom now. I've heard the fans are crazy. We have a team here in T.O. that I'm sure I'll get to see. We actually built the stadium they play in so I have a vested interest in getting to a game:p HOWEVER, I won't go in the RAIN:) That's why I like our Skydome for baseball.
Rachel - I love the Outlander series but I must confess the last book I have (I actually bought it the day it came out) just don't feel like reading it. I think it's b/c it was too long between books. Must make that a summer goal to read. The hardcover is soo big - love my Kindle! I vote for staying up to finish reading the book but don't listen to me. I'll stay up to 2-3am to finish a book and still have to get up for work the next day:rolleyes:
Sounds like a few of us have a Kindle - I almost went into withdrawl this weekend. Sat. a.m. I picked mine up to read and it wouldn't turn on.! It was frozen. This happened to me in January and Amazon replaced it with in 2 days. So called again and got my replacement last night. It seems to be a common problem - if you google frozen screen you can find several threads about it. But I can't live with out my Kindle - I have like 260 books on it.
Rachel - I meant to say I know what it's like working in a man's world to some extent. I work for the largest construction company in Canada - in accounting though. I work "on site" and while there are more and more women in this industry we're still pretty rare. I went for a site tour yesterday and I swear men have never seen a woman before. The attitude is "stop what you're doing and look - there's a Chick on Site". I feel sooo many eyes on me while I walk around....
Cardio Fusion done - well up to 35min then it froze on me :( which was fine as I was about done anyway! I don't do this one too often so I'm trying to remember if it did that before or no. I then did 6min abs by Debbie Siebers.
DH is away for a couple days so off to enjoy having the bed to myself:D
I had to laugh about your comment about having the bed to yourself! I always sleep better when dh is out of town.... Because he gets up multiple times a night and can't help bumping into whatever (the harder he tries not to bump into anything or make noise, the worse it is... LOL) So, enjoy your night!
I did high step circuit and the ball abs on the same dvd. Then I had a non stop day but feel very accomplished now. But now I'm going to get some downtime... ;)
Good Thursday my friends!!!
Great spin the other night and I'm going again tonight!
Rachel, when I was reading those books I didn't get ANY sleep! LOL! It would be 11:00 and I'd think I have to finish this chapter and turn out the light and then suddenly it would be 2:00 a.m.! They are page turners! Wait until the next one Voyager...it's even more enthralling!
Patricia, there's nothing like a little rain to make you appreciate the sunshine! LOL! Oh yes, I've never seen crazy like these soccer fans! :p I love purple and have on my purple glasses as I write this! That sounds like a great color for a workout room.
Kim, what did you think about TBL and the sisters? I can't wait for the finale next week. I honestly don't have a pick for the winner this time.
Cendrine, your poor DH and getting up. And you too! You need those deep ZzZZZZzzz's. How's your back doing this week?
I'm mega late getting to work so off I go! They are carpeting near my office so I was getting some things done here at home first.
TTYL!
One more day of school for us...! It kind of seems crazy,but I'll take it!
Jo, back's better thanks to the anti inflammatories, so I'm feeling pretty good!
