Strength vs endurance workouts

Hi Cathe!

My main focus at the moment is to build muscle, particularly in my upper body (v. skinny). I am mostly using S and H, but also PS. The trouble is, I get much more enjoyment and feel much better after a full body endurance workout, and really have to force myself to keep going with the strength training. Do you think that combining strength and endurance workouts in the same week is detrimental to increasing muscle? Should endurance workouts be kept completely separate?

Thanks in advance!
Sharon.

Hi Sharon! They do not have to be kept completely separate but if you find that doing muscular endurance workouts are interfering with how much muscle you are able to put on (because your muscles have less recovery time with the additional workouts), then perhaps you should only do one muscular endurance workout per week. But on the flip side, if you truly enjoy endurance workouts and feel that you will stay committed to your workouts since you enjoy them, then that is more important for your overall well being than dreading your workouts (and possibly quitting because of it). Good luck and train safe and hard with whatever workouts you do :)
