Strength vs Endurance, again

Cathe,

Can you train for strength and endurance at the same time, or does one lessen the other?

I want to build lots of muscle, but I also want to build aerobic endurance. I was thinking of alternating the S & H series with
your longer cardio tapes such as MIC.

Is this a good idea or should I emaphasize one aspect of fitness for a while and then the other?

Any help with this from anyone would be greatly appreciated?

TIA

Hi, Jane! I'm Not Cathe But . . .

I believe there's been some research in the field of muscular development that finds that strength training tends to assist in cardiovascular and muscle endurance training; however, muscle endurance training tends NOT to assist in strength training but only in endurance training. Is that confusing enough for you?

My point (and I do have one) is that strength training, IMHO, will assist you in your aerobic endurance training by building more muscle and enabling you to put more power into your work. I think that strength training should be an ongoing part of your program, rather than alternating it with aerobic work. If the Slow and Heavy series is the only strength program you have, then by all means use is consistently each week. If you don't have the Pure Strength series, consider getting it! That would be a good alternative strength program, and would help you stay fresh!

Just my $.02 . . .
