UStream Testing
Ok, that's why you're having a problem. You have to subscribe through us to watch the videos. We had a problem yesterday after the Live Stream class was done streaming with the recorded version of the class not trans-coding properly for html 5 devices . UStream had to make our Cathe Live channel public last night so that they could fix the problem, but they forgot to make it private again. This mistake has now been corrected.
It sounds like you tried the Cathe Live file and had mixed results. You tried it on your computer and it worked fine because all computers usually use Flash. The Flash version of the Cathe Live May 8th class trans-coded just fine so this is why you didn't have an issue on your desktop. You then probably tested on an iPad, iPhone or some other tablet or phone and it didn't work because many of these devices use HTML 5 and that's the file we had a problem with. This is why you had the problems that you did.
The streaming of our files is done by UStream which is the biggest streaming company out there. They're not done by us. So if you have a problem with our HD streams you will also have a problem with any other HD UStream files. So testing any 1080i HD recorded UStream file will give you the same results as using our files.
Since you know Cathe Live worked on your computer you know you have the bandwidth coming to your home to play our streams and our OnDemand videos and that your computer is fine. Any Apple mobile device that you select will work as will nearly all Android phones and tablets. If you have concerns about a particular device just ask us and we can either find out or we may already know the answer. If not, we can probably fine out.
As for ideas on streaming to your TV, Curtis that works here may be able to help you. He is extremely knowledgeable on doing this, but I can tell you Apple TV works great and so does Chromecast. But distance from your computer to your TV may be an issue.
But to test just go to UStream and stream any 1080i HD recorded video. Don't do a "live stream" at UStream as this is different than a recorded file. Eventually, I'm sure we will have a 10 minute or so test video down the road, but for now we want to make sure we can handle the paying customers we have before expanding and branching out further. Hope this helps
