Streaming lag

UStream Testing

Ok, that's why you're having a problem. You have to subscribe through us to watch the videos. We had a problem yesterday after the Live Stream class was done streaming with the recorded version of the class not trans-coding properly for html 5 devices . UStream had to make our Cathe Live channel public last night so that they could fix the problem, but they forgot to make it private again. This mistake has now been corrected.

It sounds like you tried the Cathe Live file and had mixed results. You tried it on your computer and it worked fine because all computers usually use Flash. The Flash version of the Cathe Live May 8th class trans-coded just fine so this is why you didn't have an issue on your desktop. You then probably tested on an iPad, iPhone or some other tablet or phone and it didn't work because many of these devices use HTML 5 and that's the file we had a problem with. This is why you had the problems that you did.

The streaming of our files is done by UStream which is the biggest streaming company out there. They're not done by us. So if you have a problem with our HD streams you will also have a problem with any other HD UStream files. So testing any 1080i HD recorded UStream file will give you the same results as using our files.

Since you know Cathe Live worked on your computer you know you have the bandwidth coming to your home to play our streams and our OnDemand videos and that your computer is fine. Any Apple mobile device that you select will work as will nearly all Android phones and tablets. If you have concerns about a particular device just ask us and we can either find out or we may already know the answer. If not, we can probably fine out.

As for ideas on streaming to your TV, Curtis that works here may be able to help you. He is extremely knowledgeable on doing this, but I can tell you Apple TV works great and so does Chromecast. But distance from your computer to your TV may be an issue.

But to test just go to UStream and stream any 1080i HD recorded video. Don't do a "live stream" at UStream as this is different than a recorded file. Eventually, I'm sure we will have a 10 minute or so test video down the road, but for now we want to make sure we can handle the paying customers we have before expanding and branching out further. Hope this helps

Still having an iPad issue

I went to my account and logged in and still get the message that the video is not available online.

I assume you're no longer seeing the subscribe button?

Next, Did you reboot by completely turning off and powering down your iPad?

And are trying to watch Cathe Live by clicking on Cathe Live Stream | Cathe Video Streaming ?

If you still have an issue make sure you can still access on a computer and then let me know what version of an iPad you're using?

No. It worked GREAT on my ipad. Looked great, streamed great, even in my basement. But I don't have the right cable to hook my ipad up to the TV. And I think the ipad screen is too small for me to see to do workouts directly from it.

I think I've said this before, but my main computer is not in my basement where I work out. (And it is hooked up to my network via Ethernet, not via wireless.) The wireless signal in my basement is not very good. The new ipad works fine, but older devices do not.

The bandwidth TO my home is not an issue. I already knew that. The issue, as I've said, is that the wireless signal in my basement is poor. I either need to use a device that connects via ethernet, or I need a signal repeater for my wireless, or I need a better connector for my ipad to hook up to my TV. I know that the issues are related to my setup, and I know that I need to test that setup, and I am familiar with the options to upgrade my setup. And of course I'd like to avoid shelling out a lot of money to do so.

Thank you for the suggestion that a 1080i HD recorded video would be an adequate test. I will try that out. I would like to become a "paying customer." But only if I can actually use what I am paying for.

I have logged in successfully on my iPad after completely turning it off and I am clicking on the "Cathe Live" after logging in while in the Cathe Live Stream/Cathe Video Streaming page. And it still comes up "this content is currently not available online"

I am using an iPad 2 with IOS 7.1.1

Catherine if you read the other thread regarding iPads and the streaming issue, kariev mentions that she downloaded the app from ustream and she was able to watch Cathe's live class. I also have an Ipad and will not subscribe until all these issues are fixed. I think live streaming is a great idea, beats a gym membership any day, but I need to test the video with my internet connection and equipment first before I subscribe. Hopefully a free trial will be offered in the future.

My guess at this point is you're still cached either on your ipad or perhaps through a proxy server at your ISP or one of UStreams cloud servers. Sometimes it's difficult to clear cache even though you do all the right steps.Still let me ask you a few more questions to help narrow down your problem just in case it's not a hard cache issue.

1. Can you connect to Cathe Live on a computer and see the video file? This will let us rule out your internet connection and any account issues as problems.

2. Do you have your iPad set to wireless?

3. Can you connect and see the Cathe Live videos using your laptop and wireless?

4. Do you have just a Cathe Live account or OnDemand? If you have OnDemand can you access our OnDemand videos.

Again my best guess at the point is you're hard cached on your iPad and once the bad file dies you will gain access, but no way to say for sure.

As was just mentioned you may want to try downloading the UStream app and then just do a search for Cathe Live. There is a good chance this will work for you.If you're cached then eventually the bad file will die and you can use either method to access our files.

1. Yes, I can connect with my computer and see it
2. yes, my ipad is wireless
3. yes, the computer I am using to view is my wireless laptop
4. I am using Cathe Live. I do not have OnDemand

Lastly, I have the UStream app and can not find Cathe on there. I searched for Cathe Live, CatheLive and Cathe Friedrich and cannot find her.

Fit fairy -

Do you see the actual video, or the blank black space where the video should be where it says "content not online" or something similar? If the latter, I had the same problem, until I realized in the space to the immediate right there were three small choices (small blue lettering) for "video," " social media" and " twitter". Mine had defaulted to social media. When I touched "video" I could then see the option to select Cathe's 5/8 workout. After I selected it, it popped up immediately, but took about 30 seconds before it became a playable video (you know, where the arrow showed up to click and play). After that, all was good.

I'm sorry if you've done all that. I only mention this, because it's the type of small oversight I would (ahem, did) make.

Good luck!

Pam

Thank you Pam!!!! That was it. DUH!! I knew it had to be something simple. Esp since others were getting the video on their iPad!!

SNM, thank you for your help as well. And I love the quality of the video. I feel like I was right there with them. This will be a very nice option to mix in with my rotations to make it feel fresh!

Oh, and I thought I had changed to video instead of social yesterday and it didn't work. Perhaps I did it before I had restarted my iPad. I feel so

I'm so glad that worked! Trust me, it took me a while to figure it out!

SNM...can anything be done so that it doesn't default to social media and instead defaults to video? It may save you many consumer questions down the road.
