Stomach cramps when doing anaerobic exercise

Hi Cathe!

Am wondering if you could shed any light on why (in the last few weeks) I've been getting stomach cramps while doing anaerobic exercise -- i.e. the premix of Drills on Drill Max, and the IMAX's.

Am not aware of changing anything -- I work out first thing in the morning, having only water before I work out. Am just wondering if I'm perhaps doing something wrong.

Thanks Cathe. Sure hope your road trip was wonderful!:7

Hi, Karen!

Perhaps try to eat half a banana or some grapes before you workout and see if these symptoms persist.

xoxo, neicebug :)

Karen, not Cathe here but I'll try to answer if that's ok...

Muscle cramps (possibly stomach cramps) are often associated with dehydration, lack of potassium, lack of sodium, or possibly lack of calcium. The most common reason is dehydration. You may be needing more water than usual if the weather has changed (like it does in the summer). Even if you're working out in air conditioning, your body may still be affected by humidity and heat. I would also try to eat a little something before you workout like neicebug said. Working out on an empty stomach (especially first thing in the morning) can really diminish performance. I know a lot of people swear by this, but it's not recommended by nutritionists and most fitness professionals.

Hi,
Not Cathe, but a nurse. Carolyn is right. It could be muscle cramps and your body is dehydrated and calling for sodium and potassium. I would recommend gatorade. You should be sweating even if doing home exercise videos in an air conditioned room.
