Sticking to the series workouts??

I know you don't always have to do the series workouts together (all body blast or all intensity) but for example this week I'm doing the body blast series and then next week plan to do the intensity then the cross training series the next week. So, if I do follow a series do I have to do only it for a certain length of time and then switch to a different series in order to get results? (Needing to lose about 20 pounds and would like to tone also). I get bored REALLY easy so I thought the changes might be good. I don't usually do all the series workouts together, sometimes I mix them up too. After a about 8 months of not doing any exercise (just unmotivated and lazy) I'm finally ready to start back.

Thanks,
Kimbra

Apart from when the Hardcores came out, I don't think ANY of Cathe's posted rotations use only one series. Even the Hardcore rotations mixed in some running. I don't think you even need to do a series a week. I mix it up all the time and I'm getting great results. This week, I've got some Hardcores, some running, some Body Blast, and one body part a day not using any dvd's, but using Cathe's One Body Part a Day rotation.

I'm another one who gets bored very easily when I stick to just one series. For me, I found it easier to stick to just one style of weight training for a few weeks, but I do a variety of cardio. I notice results this way. Cardio can be changed frequently because the main goal of cardio is weight loss and aerobic conditioning, and all of Cathe's cardios accomplish this goal. With weight training you either want to build muscle, get better definition, or just maintain what you have, and certain styles of weight training accomplish these goals. Right now, I'm trying to build muscle so I'm doing heavy weights for a few weeks. Her series are great this way because they compliment each other so well. Plus, the premixes add variety.

I am so bad with sticking with rotations, but I've thought of doing this many times. I was planning on sticking to the same series for weights for at least 4-6 weeks and then moving on. Like the above poster, I would mix up the cardio workouts. I've thought of starting with Slow & Heavy to build strength and muscle. Then moving to the Gym Styles, followed by the Pyramids, and then the Body Blast workouts. Of course, I've never actually done this, so I can't comment on results.

I don't see why you want to do the series workouts together, unless it's just some kind of organizational thing.

IMO, Cathe's series are not created as a complete rotation, the way something like P90X is. The rotations for the various workouts are more of an after-thought, and the workouts in each series don't provide enough variety (in workout modalities or in intensity) to make for a complete and balanced rotation.

I don't think it makes much difference whether you do a series, or do it for 4 weeks, versus just get a good mix of weights and cardio every week with entirely different mix and match series DVDs. The only exception might be slow and heavy, which probably needs at least 3 weeks straight to really build muscle MASS if that is what you want. Otherwise I think all her workouts use pretty similar techniques. Just getting started back exercising every day is the main thing at this point! And do whatever makes you the least bored because then you will be more motivated to give it your all.
