Stevia

Hello everybody!

I would like to try out Stevia as a sweetener, but I am confused about the choices available. I see that they have stevia extract, but 1 serving is 1/40th of a teaspoon, which seem a little hard to measure x( ! There is also a liquid form, which I believe might be a little easier to use with tea, etc. There is also stevia mixed with fillers, such as FOS.

Is there any difference in taste between pure stevia and a stevia mix? Does one form seem to be less bitter than the others? Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated!

Hi,
I have only used "SweetLeaf Stevia Plus" brand. I like it in cold foods/drinks, but it gets a little bitter when used in hot things.

I found a product called "Sweet & Slender" that works well in my hot tea. It's made from Lo Han fruit.

Hope that's helpful.

Hi!

I also have Sweetleaf Stevia Plus. It has FOS added to it which if I remember correctly from my reading kicks the bitterness of pure stevia and adds a little fiber. It comes in little packets just like other sweetners and one packet is equivalent to two teaspoons of sugar. There are other brands as well...if you go to www.vitaminshoppe.com and do a search, all sorts of things come up. I haven't used it in drinks because I weened myself off sweetened beverages, but I use it in my oatmeal and it's great.

Hope that helps!

:) Nicole

Hi Nicole and Absinthe!

Thanks for the tips! I use The Vitamin Shoppe extensively and have noticed Sweetleaf Stevia Plus there before. Kudos to you for giving up all sweetened drinks :D ! I'm not quite there yet...just happy to be off "the whites" (sugar, flour, rice).

I've never heard of Sweet & Slender before. Since it is made from fruit, does it have a significant calorie/carb count? I mostly use sweetners in hot drinks, so I may have to check it out!
