steriod to induce menses- weight gain question

Hi Everyone-
My doctor prescribed a steroid called medroxyprogesterone acetate (brand name Provera)to induce my period and it had some side effects including depression and weight gain. Although the depression subsided after a few days - I feel it was a massive onset of weight gain. Has anyone taken this medication and did you gain weight? How did you get lose the weight? I feel like I work out hard and eat well, but nothing seems to get me down to my previous weight (about 7-10 pounds lighter). Help! thanks...

I took provera to regulate heavy and really long periods and while I was on it I actually lost weight. So I guess I am not much help, huh?!:p Are you taking it everyday? I only took it a week before my period was due, though I did take it everyday for a month. Are you subconsciously eating more? Talk to your doctor and see if that is a side effect.

Sorry that I can't be of more help.;(

RE: steroid to induce menses- weight gain question

yes, Provera can play a part in weight gain, as it can increase your appetite. However the amount required to induce menses is usually fairly small, if there is weight gain it usually shouldn't be significant.
