Step Works Experts??

Seeing the post for MIC made me want to ask about Step Works.
I have had this tape for a few months now and I just cannot get into it. I have other Cathe tapes, (MSB, Step Heat, Powermax, Wedding tape & Interval Max among them), but this one moves way too quickly for me and I haven't been able to catch on--
Does anyone who owns this tape have any pointers, like "You should own ______ tape" before you try Step Works.
All of the other Cathe tapes that I have were fine for me after the first or second run through, but Step Works is so frustrating that I always just stop it in the first segment and put in something else.
Did anyone else have this problem? I'm wondering--because it seems like it would be fun if I knew what was going on.

Step Works!!

Hi Deidre:

I know just how you feel about Step Works!
When I first go it I thought I would NEVER
get the moves! It does go fast and Cathe
does not break down the moves like she
does in some of the other tapes. Do you
have Step Fit?? This tape helped me make
the transition to Step Works and a big
plus is the fun factor of Step Fit!! I
would suggest concentrating on just one
section of Step Works at a time. Perhaps
you could cue up sections and add them to
other tapes. I also find that if I spend
some extra time just watching a tape that
is giving me trouble it helps. I used to
watch Step Works while I folded laundry.
Sometimes watching it while you are relax-
ed and not trying to do the moves helps
them to click in your brain!!

Hang in there and keep trying, it will
come to you eventually! It is worth the
effort because Step Works is a great tape!

Best Wishes!!

Had the same problem

When I first got Step Works I was very frustrated the first few times I tried it and didn't understand why everyone seemed to like it so much. No other Cathe tape made me feel this way. I put it away for a while and, for some reason, when I brought it back out I "got" it and really enjoy it now - I do it once a week. Hope you get to that point too!

Don't give up!

I can usually catch on to Cathe step tapes the first time through (at least by the end of the segment I've pretty much figured out each move). Step Works was much more challenging. It took me at least 3 times through to figure it out. But let me tell you, that is my favorite step tape now. I love all of the choreography and it always keeps me interested since she goes through the choreography so quickly. I did do all of her other tapes first, including Body Max.

If I were you, I would do a different tape for the first part of your workout and then throw in StepWorks and just walk through it for a cool down on a low step or the floor. You might just figure it out quicker when you aren't as worried about getting your heartrate up at the same time. Also, maybe just try a portion of it each time and build on that.

Like I said, don't give up. It is my favorite Cathe step tape right now.

Advice on StepWorks

You have gotten some great advice so far. StepWorks is my absolute favorite Cathe cardio tape, but I did almost all of her other tapes before tackling it and I know that is what made it easier for me to learn.

Many of the moves come from her earlier videos. I spent 3 months mastering Step Heat, Step Max and Step Jam before moving on to the newer Cathe vids. I know that some of the moves can be found in the step section of MIC and of course PowerMax.

The best thing I think for you to do is to really get used to Cathe and her cueing. PowerMax is a gread vid to get you ready for Step Works. BodyMax is also a good one to get you accustomed to a quicker pace.

All in all, don't get frustrated and give up on StepWorks. Like the others suggested, take it in short segments. Once you get it you will love it, but if you are looking to get some more Cathe vids, BodyMax, StepJam and MIC would be my recommendations for what will help prepare you for StepFit and StepWorks!

By the way, I am no choreography queen. It took me almost 2 years to get up the courage to attempt a Cathe tape. When I get done with StepWorks, I feel like I have just completed a real dance routine. I almost feel artistic, kind of silly coming from somebody who doesn't have a creative/artistic bone in her body!
