Step question - PH and S&H

Cathlete
I've been doing PS just fine without a step. But I will soon be buying PH and/or S&H. Can these workouts be done just as easily as PS without a step, or will I absolutely want to have one? I'd rather just get the Novel Notion box or some substitute for step-ups and hamstring raises. Thanks for input from all of you educated PH and S&H users!

Nancy -

You won't need a step for any step-ups in Power Hour or Slow & Heavy - but you will need a bench or flat surface of some sort for other exercises. PH has lots of squats, plie squats and lunges. S&H has squats, lunges, side lunges and plie squats (and calf raises).

Hope that helps!

Hi Nancy, the lower body work in S/H and PH doesn't use a step at all. You'll use your step for the upper body stuff like bench presses and pec flyes. There's a back exercise in S/H where you lay on your step and lower and lift the dumbbell over the head. Triceps are done on the step. You do use the step quite a bit in the upper body workouts.

Hi Nancy!

My suggestion would be to spend your $$ on a full size step just because it is more versatile then the novel box. You can use the step for step-ups, hamstring work, plus all upper body moves in Cathe's tapes. You have the option of adjusting it to different inclines also, buying extra risers for greater height and SHOULD you decide to ever give Step a try, you have it! Just my opinion. My Step is my favorite investment. (Right along with my barbells!) Good Luck on your decision.

RE: Hi Nancy!

Deb-
I understand and agree with your opinion regarding price and value. But where o where would I put 41 inches of plastic?? The Novel Notion box is only 14" square. This is my ongoing dilemma, which you've probably seen me bellyache about several times before in this forum! :D

Hmmmm!

Is your workout area near a bedroom? I think the platform would fit under a bed??? I know, it would be a hassle dragging it back & forth. How about hanging it from the ceiling? JUST KIDDING! A closet is another idea. You could stand it on end. Maybe you could cover it and use it as a table?? Have I convinced you yet??? If all else fails, come visit me and you can use mine.;-) Good Luck on whatever you do. It has to work for YOU!
