Step problem

Cathe, I'm writing to see if you (or anyone else) has had a problem with their STEP. The mat on the top platform of my STEP has developed a blister or bubble underneath the mat, and I am concerned that it will become worse (or that I might even trip on it). I hate to have to buy an entirely new STEP, especially when I have just preordered the new High STEP (and could've gotten just the topper with all the risers I will have if having to buy an entire new one...). When I contacted the STEP Company with my concerns, they stated that they do not sell just the top platform. The "used" sporting goods stores in my area have no STEPS for sale. Have you had similar problems? Suggestions?

Thanks!!! Bette

Hi Bette,

I think I've heard someone else mention that problem before, and I thought they said they just lifted it up and glued it back down. Hopefully someone who has had the problem and fixed it will pop in here. You might also try posting this question in the general forum - lots of people read there as well!

Good luck!

You might want to do a search on that at www.videofitness.com forum. I think a lot of people had that problem. I heard The Step has gone through MANY different companies... and some were not build as good as others (cutting corners). However, I heard the latest company (escalade) tried to maintain the quality to the previous (older) version.

If you decide to buy a new step, www.fitness1st.com sells just the platform for $35 + S/H.

Stepping Fool, thank you SO MUCH! At least now I know that I can purchase the platform top only. Thanks!!!! Bette

You could try cutting a small slit in the bubble with an exacto knife and putting a bit of glue in there, then pushing it down flat. My step toppers are 11 and 8 years old, and I've never had this problem, though I've heard that others have.

Thanks Kathryn. I even thought about using a warm iron on it. I've had my STEP for a long time too and use it religiously ... I just don't want to botch it up, trying to fix it, and then be w/o it until I purchase another one! Bette
