step jump & pump...what do people think?

I don't have this one, but I've seen a portion of it on FitTV. I'm not all into it for some reason. I love circuit style workouts but I can't put my finger on what it is. Maybe it's just not for me. Hard b/c I love Step Blast but I don't really want the DVD w/ the other on it. Maybe it'll grow on me?

Hi Debbie,

I ran into the same thing, I love Step Blast and when I tried, SPJ.....well, it just wasn't as fun. I think I'm just not used to doing the circuits yet, I'm still glad I got it though.....You could always just get the tape for Step Blast? Just a thought.........

SJP isn't my favorite, either, but Step Blast makes the whole DVD worth it for sure! Plus, there are some great premixes on the DVD that let you make circuits with Step Blast and the weight work from SJP, so you could still get a circuit-style workout with the fun of SB. I would get it, because it might grow on you.

Also, the hi/lo intervals make a good (short) travel workout that don't need any equipment.

Cathe's Hi/lo is a bit too high impact for me. But I do like the premix that has the SJP step/weight circuit. I stop it before the cool down and do the last Hi/lo segment (which thankfully, is low impact) and the abs - all from SJP. I really like the ab segment, it's rather Pilates inspired.

I don't care for SJP either and I like Cathe's hi-lo. So, I don't know what it is about this w/o. Let me see....

I think the step work at the start seems half hearted. Cathe doesn't spend much time building up any particular combo and "throws it all away". When each segment gets thrown away I feel I am spending my time learning something for nothing. I like the way Cathe builds cardio segments on RS and Step Blast: in order to put them together for a challenge at the end. I like to put all the combos together and feel them flow.

Then at the end when we do the low impact segment I feel cheated: I feel that we should be doing another high impact segment and that I am being short changed.

So, basically, this collection of exercises doesn't hang together for me as a workout. It has no heart, no soul, and I don't get what it's point is.

But Step Blast is a gem and so the DVD is worth the $$ in my opinion.

I'll chime in with a minority report! I think Step, Jump and Pump is fun, though I think, say, Circuit Max is a better workout. S,J,P, though has the best weight work, in my opinion, of the circuits. So, on days when I want a circuit with decent weight work, I like this one. I agree, the step portion isn't as challenging in this workout as in others. I personally find the hi/low fun, however (and I don't always like hi/lo), even if it is a little goofy in parts. And, it has a pretty good ab workout, even if it is on the short side.

I like SJP also. It is not my favorite circuit but it is very different from some of Cathe's other circuits and I think its fun and so I incude it in my rotation every so often. But if it turns you off, let's face it...you won't do it. I agree with the others its worht buying the DVD for StepBlast alone IMHO.

I rarely use this one as is. I am not big on circuits unless I am really short on time to get everything in. I do like the premixes on the dvd though. As others have said the circuit with Step Blast cardio & SJP weights is good. Sometimes I use the floor or step portion as add ons. I do think the cardio is fun though. Just not the intensity of a lot of Cathe's other vids. The Hi Lo is more intense than the step in my opinion except the last section. My grandchildren want to come in and do the hi lo with me. I think they like the music:)

I like SJ&P for days when I need some weight work and don't have time for a long workout. If I need harder cardio work, I will use 8 inches for the step height. It also ends with a good set of ab work.

Step Blast is the gem on this dvd and the premixes are out of this world!

I just want to chime in here...whether you like the SJP workout by itself or not, this DVD has outstanding premixes and it's worth getting it just for that!

Jo

Hi Renee,
SJP is one of Cathe's longer workouts...just over 70 some minutes. Do you mean you do one of the permixes when you are short of time or do you mean you pick this when you want to do both cardio and weights and have just under 1.5 hrs to work out? Thanks.

thanks for all the input. I think I may get this DVD just b/c I love SB, too! The premixes sound great from what you all are saying so yahoo! Thanks :)

Debbie

I like SJP but right now the hi/lo can be difficult for me because I'm not good at figuring out modifications for some of the moves ...once I don't have to worry about that anymore I think I'll really enjoy it!

hello Cathy!

I do one of the premixes when I want a long workout, with some weight work thrown in. It sure is fun...hard but fun!

I had this question too, and since I really don't like hi-lo too much - I decided to go for the Timesaver DVD which has 3 of the combo segments from Step Blast, as well as the Step combos from SJP. The only thing that seems to be missing is the Step Blast challenge. I'll probably get this DVD eventually, but for now, Timesaver is a great substitute.

i love this dvd! i'm not that big a fan of SJP, but with Step Blast on the same dvd, i can mix the step from step blast with the weight work from SJP and it's awesome! definitely worth the money. it's like a whole collection in one dvd.
