Hi joanna,
I think that you are getting the best DVD to start Cathe step with. I do like these workouts and I hope you do too. It is difficult to say how hard the workouts will be. Let me tell you my experience. When I started doing Cathe step I had been doing Firm tapes. Their 'step' is very basic and their cardio is no where near as intense as Cathe's. These Cathe workouts for me at that time were very challenging. I felt like I had advanced to the next level! The cuing that Cathe does for the step moves is very good and I found myself catching on fairly quickly. Also they were (are) so much fun that the time went by quickly. Just so you know, you do need a full size step to do Cathe's moves. Other DVD's focusing on cardio are Cardio hits, Rhythmic Step + which includes Maximum Intensity Cardio and Interval Max (now referred to as IMAX 1 since there is an IMAX2,) Cardio Kicks which is paired with Circuit Max (CM), and IMAX2 which is paired with Cardio & Weights (C&W.) You can do CM with light weights and C&W has a premix using no weights. I can also STRONGLY recommend Cathe's weight tapes. I hope I answered your questions. -joy

Joanna,

My story is similar. I started working out using my treadmill and doing hand weights as my weight training. It was nothing super serious just something to help me lose that baby weight. I bought The Firm and did that for a little while. It became monotonous and someone (Annette) turned me on to Cathe. It took me a month to get the nerve to order. I got Classics, Ab Hits & PUB/PLB. I hadn't done any step (other than what Firm did) and did have to use the A-B repeat a bit to learn the choreography (but then again, I'm choreographically challenged). I picked it up rather quickly and am glad that I started with Classics. I'm now ready for more!!! I did do Step Max yesterday and for me, the last section, plio-power just about destroyed my knees. Sooo...I might do the first two parts and throw in something else to finish with. All of that to say...yes, I think you'll do find as long as you can use the A-B repeat. And, do get the full size step. One more thing...since I got PUB/PLB I ended up buying two more risers (maybe it was four...can't remember) to bring myself higher during PUB portion, but I'm not sure that was a must--just my choice.

Go for it & good luck!!!
