Step Height for Body Max 2/Cardio Fusion

Amy Steppe

Cathlete
Hello all,

I was shocked to see Cathe using an 8 in step again in her Body Max 2.

I use the 8 in step for the 30 min cardio, then take it down to 6 in for the blasts. The second blast, as I recall, Cathe always did with 6 in before. I remember in Step Max (which is still a very challenging workout), that she took the riser down for the final blast. She did the same for the final blast in Body Max 1.

Does everyone use 8 inches all the way through Body Max 2? I am 5'1" and it is just too much for me.

Also, when I do Cardio Fusion, I do the first two segments on 8 inches and finish the rest on 6 inches.

When I do Scrambled eggs or Mix and Max, I use only 6 inches.

Hi Amy,
I am 5'4" and had always "done as Cathe was doing" in her step videos, but recently I found that I wasn't getting the same intensity so I started upping all my step heights to 8 inches (excluding Imax 3), so I was pleasantly surprised to see Cathe and crew do this in the new series. I even bump up the step height in Drill Max as the most intense drills aren't even on the step, lol:) ( I also turn the jacks off each side of the step [blast 4?) into air jacks--yeah, I'm a cardio junkie).

But I have to say that I do find the power circuits in BMax2 pretty challenging at this step height, beautiful!, but challenging}( The first time I did any part of BMax2 it was late in the day (not my usual time) and I had just worked all day. I tried the 62 min. cardio only premix, and suffice it say, that step came down to 6 inches before the blasts even started :D

If I were several inches shorter, especially if my legs were shorter, I'd probably stick with 6 inches in several areas as sometimes, you're right, it's too much.

Hi, Amy

I used to use 8 inches on many of her wo's, and at the gym many years ago, but found I was in some knee pain if I did more that 2 step classes/week (I absolutely LOVE step).

Now I do all my stepping on 6 inches, and I don't have the pain or probs w/ my knees that I used to! I am 5'5" and will continue to use 6" with increased intensity to keep up my HR.

I am 5'3" and ALWAYS use a 6 inch step. I have tried the 8 inch height and loved how the intensity felt but did not like how my knees felt. I have a lot of livin' left to do and want to baby these knees. My mother has had ten surgeries and her knee surgery was the worst! I love step, too!!

I'm 5'2" and lately I've been using an 8" step for all my step workouts with the exception of IMAX 3 or if I do an extremely complex step workout.
