Step: Gym vs Video

Since I've never really been to the gym and have always been a home exerciser I was wondering if someone could tell me how Cathe's tapes really compare to a step class at the gym. I dont envision me joining a gym because my hours at work are too bizarre, but I was just curious. I love Cathe's step tapes and they seem pretty intense to me, but have nothing to compare them to.

Thanks,

Stacy

I think you'd have to visit a lot of clubs to get the workout you get from a Cathe tape!! Except if you live in the Canton, OH area and you can take a Deb H HiLo class!!!

I have belonged to several gyms. They cannot compare to Cathe's workout. The other downfall is if you happen to find a class you like the teacher rarely changes her class. So not only does boredom set in but your body adjusts to that workout.

I'm glad to hear those responses. Friends of mine who live at the gym are always telling me that step videos are low intensity...of course they've never tried a Cathe tape. Maybe I'll just keep her tapes my little secret ;)

P.S. Just saying hi to those of you in the Buckeye State, from Columbus here.

I think there are probably just as hard of step classes at a gym because I know that mine is. But I let my instructor get ideas from my Cathe tapes.

Many gyms will offer an advanced class but I think the tendency is to keep some classes at an intermediate level because you always have anywhere from beginners to advanced excersisers in one class. I have seen instructors tell the class that it is a high intensity class and if the beginners find it to hard to modify. They will even show beginner moves and a high intensity move so you can do what you want. But being a veteran exerciser if Iam in a class that I don't think is working me hard enough I know how to make the moves more intense.

I love doing my gym workouts and my Cathe tapes. With my life it is easier for me to do most of mine at the gym. But I really like the crosstraining Iam getting by doing several different classes/tapes with different instructors and thpes of cardio.

Anyway, just my opinion.

Hey Neighbor!

Another Buckeye here! HoneyBunch and I are from the Akron/Canton area, Erica is from further up North in Chardon and I believe Aimee is from Columbus! Sounds like we need to plan a road trip this Spring or Summer??? Your-Friend-In-Fitness, DebbieH :)

Stacy...your friends sound just like my sister-in-law who says "you can't get a good workout at home." What a slap in the face to me, because she knows that's what I do. I think the best workout is what someone will do consistently, and with passion and enjoyment. She keeps talking about going to the gym, but it's been months since she's gone, and when she does, it's on-again, off-again. So, she thinks her once in a blue moon gym workouts give her a better workout than my 5-6 days a week Cathe workouts? I think not!!!

One of these days, when she mouths off, I'm gonna pull up my shirt and say, "let's compare abs!"

Sorry, I just needed to vent. I'm so glad to have found all of you who know what a good workout Cathe can give us!!
