Step for Xtrain?

The step in XTrain

It depends on the workout. In some of the workouts like XTrain Chest/back/shoulders the step is used as only a bench to do exercises like a chest fly on. In some of the other workouts it is used as a real aerobic step.

Thanks SNM.

Do you know how many videos will have step as aerobic step in them? I don't see it described specifically in any of the blurbs located on the XTrain order page.

Thanks for your help!

additional question

Um, before I ordered XTrain I asked if there would be any step aerobics and was told there would NOT be. So now does it turn out there are, in fact, step aerobic portions?

Step in Xtrain

I think you misunderstood what we said. We've listed a step in our equipment list since we announced XTrain. What we said from the beginning is that there isn't a "step aerobics video" in XTrain, but a step would be used for some exercises and as a bench in some of the routines.

How much is step used?

Thanks for the clarification. In response to a specific question, I was told that there would not be any step aerobics period (I can't find the thread but the staff member said that a step was not used for aerobics). I understand that you're saying that there is no devoted 'step aerobics' video in the set, but are there portions of step aerobics at all? (If there are step aerobics, can you estimate how much (e.g. by time or portion of video/s) and identify in how many videos there are step aerobics segments?) Or is it just the case that the step is used as a tool in the strengthening workouts and entirely excluded from aerobics segments/videos?

I don't see a step listed for what seem to be the aerobics videos (#6,7,8) but in your earlier message, you say "In some of the other workouts it is used as a real aerobic step" which suggests that there are, in fact, some segments of step aerobics. Hence my confusion.

Thanks in advance for the clarification!

There are no staff members that post threads on this forum related to the new videos, only Cathe and myself. This way we make sure that the information posted is as accurate as possible. We've also been very clear from the beginning that the equipment used in the videos would not be finalized until the videos were finished. You might have been confused from a thread recently where a person asked if there was a step aerobics video in XTrain? We replied that there wasn't, but that a step would be used for certain exercises and as a bench.

As for the thread where you asked about a step being in XTrain ( I just found this after answering your post) it was answered by me on 9-5-12: Here is exactly what I said, "Lastly, there isn't step workout included with XTRain, but that is not to say a step will not be used for different parts an exercises in XTRAIN." (here is a direct link: http://cathe.com/forum/f115/length-types-exercises-xtrain-290427/) I think you just misunderstood what I was saying.

Again, we've never said that a step would not be used in this series. In fact what we have said is the exact opposite. Here are some other threads you can find in this forum with what we actually said since the presale launched:

9-16-12 "One of things we took into consideration from the feedback we have received from previous workouts like STS is to keep equipment to a "minimum" as possible for XTRAIN. We will not have a final list of equipment for XTRAIN until after we have finished filming. But XTRAIN will not require a lot of equipment and probably will include just: dumbbells, stability ball, step, bands/loops and slide n glide discs".

8-21-12 "We will not have a final list of equipment for XTRAIN until after we have finished filming. But XTRAIN will not require a lot of equipment and probably will include: Dumbbells, Stability Ball, Step, bands/loops and Slide N Glide discs".

7-10-12 "We wont have a final equipment list until after we have filmed, but dumbbells, a standard step, a stability ball, Slide N Glide discs and bands should cover about everything. Obviously you will need a spin bike to do "Ride!" if you select the XTRAIN Deluxe option."

As for the three videos you mentioned" Hard Strikes does not use a step at all. Tabatacise only uses a step for an recovery blast between Tabatas. If you don't want to use a step you can easily modify the 2 minute active recovery sections and do your own without a step. Low Impact HiiT has three sections (floor HiiT, Step HiiT and Slide HiiT). We have premixes for this workout that don't include using a step.

We've been posting pictures from the XTrain workouts almost daily since Oct 5th, so there really shouldn't be any surprises. We do use a step in some of the workouts, but not to any large degree. Hope this clarifies things.

Off topic, but step being used as recovery from the tabatas? Holy sweatfest, Batman! Can't wait...I think... :)

Tabatacise active recovery

I know it sounds crazy, but Cathe didn't want your heart rate to drop too fast too soon. Even though this is a step blast your heart rate will still drop from the intense tabata drill you just completed. You then do standard cool down side step to bring your rate down further.

Thank you

Thanks, SNM Videos, for the clarification. I appreciate you outlining where and when the step is used for aerobics and whether I can avoid it (i.e. by modifying or using a non-step pre-mix). It sounds like the step is something that I can avoid without missing too much of the workouts. I'm sorry for the confusion; clearly I did not understand exactly what you were saying. I appreciate the time you have put into answering my queries. I'm looking forward to X-Train!!
