Step Coffee Table?

The women on these forums seem so nice and so knowlegeable, I thought I would try a difficult question on you. I'm very new to the Cathe videos. I live in an apartment in New York city, and I've been using my new PS videos, my first Cathe videos, in my living room. My workout space is about 14 feet wide, but only about 5.5 feet long, unless you add the coffee table, which I use as a bench. I keep all of my free weights stacked on a small shelving unit in the corner of the living room. I have almost NO extra closet space. I am able to avoid buying a barbell for now, because I don't seem to need it yet. I honestly wouldn't know where to keep it. I belong to a gym around the corner, but their class schedules are always a problem for me because I work long hours. I generally go over there about twice a week on the weekends to use the elliptical machine or the treadmill. (For the membership fees, I could have purchased these machines many times over, but have no where to put them.) I love step videos. I owned a step in my younger days and loved it. Cathe has so many step videos that I would love to try. Is there some kind of step that can be tucked away in a corner somewhere or used as a coffee table? Does any one else have space problems that they have solved in some creative way? I'd love to hear your ideas. Thanks.

Hiya Nancy324

Yes I do have a very limited space in which to exercise and store my equipment. I use Reebok step which is smaller than the step Cathe uses but you can store in away in one piece (I keep mine in my bedroom to the side of my book case).

Fortunetly I am 5ft but I do modify some of the steps when exercising like with Step works when Cathe does grapevine to the back I amend this to just stepping and turning in place because I don't have the room. I add intensity by jumping high when I can (being careful of the low ceiling in my home).

I agree with your points about the gym I find that exercising at home for me is a better option as I can exercise when I want to how I want to and I don't have to worry about how foolish I must look.

I have loads of videos and I recently cleared out years of old clothes and other stuff so I was able to store my tapes and and exercise equipment which allowed me to not only get a step but a barbell. Can I suggest a body bar which you could store in a corner standing up right which is what I did to get started.

You'll get more suggestions from other members I am sure but I hope this might be of help to you.

You may want to check out the Fanny Lifter from the Firm for your step. Its quite a convenient size for storage and comes in 2 stackable parts, on 6", one 8". You can see a picture of it and/or buy it from www.collagevideo.com and I know you can get it from the Firm directly but I'm not sure of that address. Proably someone else here knows and I've beginning to see a few of them show up on Ebay too.

I don't think you could use the Fanny Lifter for Cathe aerobic stepping. I am a 'firmer', but I think Fanny Lifter is just the size of a stool (square), not long enough. Reebok step is not as long as the club step... like Babs said... it could be a solution.

I guess you could always get extra risers for your club step and make it a coffee table (I think the Club step is about 44" long but not very wide). I do have 4 pairs of risers (making it 14" high) for step ups for PS (now, this is the only place you could use the Fanny Lifter -- step ups).

I have space issues also, but what i do with my full size original club step is slide it under my bed (without the risers), and I stack the risers in my clothes closet on top of the shoes that are "out of season." It takes only a few extra minutes before and after to put everything back in its place.

Miss Donna, did you get my e-mail re: going to New Castle?

Do you think that if you took the risers off the step that it could then be pushed underneath your couch? I have a Reebok step and am thinking it would work.

For ages I didn't have a coffee table--and didn't care-- bc that was where i did my stepping! Perhaps you could make a little cover for your step when you are not using it that would allow it to double as a little table. I am picturing some piece of fabric that coordinates with your living room and drapes nicely.

Good idea except that the bedroom is rather far from the living room, so I would probably get too lazy to drag it back.

Donna, your bio is very impressive. You are one highly ambitious lady, while being smart and sensible enough to know how to reach your goals and make them last! :D

Hi all

Yes putting the step under the bed is a good idea as it will keep it out of the way when you are not using it.

Regarding the storage comment my step is kept in my bedroom and I have to carry it up and down the stairs when I want to & my weights also so I treat it as part of my workout routine (I exercise late so from about 7.00 pm in the evening I start bringing my step and weights down throughout the evening).

Just a suggestion.

p.s. okay, checked my mail and I didn't see it so I sent you an email :)

oops! sorry about suggesting the Fanny Lifter, I don't do step aerobics, so I didn't realize it wouldn't do for in this case.
