Step class update

Just to let you all know, I have been teaching step for, oh, 6 or 7 classes now. It has become very, very much smoother and the participants are really worked hard! I use choreography I learned from doing Cathe's videos. Here's the finished routine:

#1.
Up-back up-back basic (like in all-step and Body Max)
Insole around the world (does not change leads)

#2.
Knee of the side, over twice, knee off the back
Center knee up, mambo pivot (just a mambo on the step, pivoting on the floor) (changes leads)
Knee up mambo pivot again

#3.
Box lunge! exit,
Triples (turning) all the way around the step (like in Rhythmic Step)
Fast-foot repeater (like in Step blast) (Changes leads)

#4.
Knee-up, drop squat, pendulum, exit.
Knee-up (other corner) drop sq, pendulum, exit
Jump freeze
Jump freeze
Step kick (on the corner) walk back, kick, walk forward. (Does not change leads)

First I teach the moves, then combine. Then we go through Combo 1-2-1-2 maybe 4-6 times. Then move on, teach 3 then do 3, teach 4 and do 4, then do 3-4-3-4.

Then I do a "challenge" section (I don't call it that) like the Rhythmic Step challenge: we start at the top and do 1-2-3-4-1-2-3-4.

I have to teach a different move to replace the very last move, for lead changing, before going all the way through though. Instead of the step kick walk etc, I put in an in-out-in repeater.

I think there will be a time I can add one more pair. When it's 3 pairs of combos I think it will self-lead-change for the challenge section.

Step instructors, take this routine! It's a lot of fun! I find that the triples come right in time, just when you need a little breeze.

Now it's time for me to change it a little, or add one more combo.

To Cathy

I have used different music each time. Each CD is especially made for exercise instructors, and is 128 to 132 beats per minute throughout.

Last week I used Cathe Volume 1 from Dynamix. Others I have used are some great remixes from a company no longer in existence, called Groovejoy, and a bunch of great stuff by B.K. Howe of GFMix. www.gfmix.com. Another great music source is www.musclemixes.com.

If you are not an instructor, Collage has some audio tapes, maybe they have CD's by now too. I haven't checked their site or catalog for a while. But they used to have exercise music for the regular retail market.
