step blast

I just received stepblast and step, jump, and pump. I really like them. Had no trouble with sjp, but I really struggled with the coreography in stepblast. Is it my imagination, or is the coreography a little more difficult on this workout, or was I just having a rough day yesterday? I can usually pick up things with a rewind or two, but I gave up on the third section of this tape. I cannot get that quick little repeater thing down. I have another tape that has the same move in it, but it's the combination of this move and the moves before and after that's challenging me. I'm hoping that after it all sits and soaks in my brain for a day or two, I'll have more success when I try it again. Never got to the blast section. I'd rewound so many times by the time I finished the third section I was all wound out. I sure would appreciate a tip or two on how to master this section. I think I've got the first two sections down. :) Thanks! Hopefull

If your talking about the fast-foot repeater.... start with a knee up, knee down (just like a regular repeater); then a quick switch/switch over the board (that leaves where you started - one foot on the floor and one foot on the step), then the final knee up, knee down (your final knee-up of the repeater).

I never could explain moves very well. But I hope that made sense.

I made up my own fast foot repeater. After about 3 times through Step Blast I had it down pat...you will too.

The music is so good on this dvd!

It's always that third segment that confuses many of us. I think it's because Cathe teaches the fast-foot repeater on one side of the step, but uses it in the end product on the other side. Plus all those triples around the step -- one group going in one direction, and another group of triples going the other way. You'll get it. Just keep trying. :)

Yes, Stepblast is a little more complicated than most of the other step tapes. Once you go through it a few times you'll get it. That fast foot repeater took me a little while to learn too. I could do it fine when leading on the right foot but would mess it up when leading on the left. Figure that out! Now that section with fast foot repeaters is my favorite of them all. I think it finally clicked when I remembered to do the knee up first, then hop back and forth.

I'm really digging SJP lately. When I first bought it I think I did it once and put it away. Just a week or two ago I started doing some of those I don't do regularly just for a change of pace. SJP really kicked my butt. What a gem! Now I don't know why I didn't like it before.

Diane...I'm impressed with that explanation, Girl!! It's hard to do, without demonstrating, isn't it? I would just add this...you do start with say right leg up and then down (kind of like your doing one repeater) and then quickly tap the step with your right foot, then left, alternating your feet about four times, and as Diane said you end up where you started with one leg on the bench and one leg on the floor. It is tricky at first I think because you want to start by tapping the step and then the count is off. Remember to do that knee up, knee down (repeater) before you start alternating tapping the step with each foot. I hope I did't make things worse..haha

The choreography is a little more tricky, but you'll probably get it the next time or two. Step Blast is one of my favorites! :)

That's the problem. It isn't the fast-foot repeaters so much as the direcitional changes. I am getting messed up though because I was tapping the board before starting those fast-foot repeaters. Thanks for the tips!

It took me THREE times to almost get this choreography, but it is well worth it. Also, the triples around the board, I originally thought they were too lame & very disorienting. Once you learn them, they are so fulfilling. Hang in there, just keep moving. I am choreographically challenged but I did eventually get it without losing momentum and it was just a matter of 3-4 tries.

And don't forget the premixes!!!! There are soooo many great premixes on this dvd! Current favs are #5 and #6!

I know one thing about step blast, practice makes perfect, that is the wonder of remote control, I paused and go on little by little then I try it on my own, and practice like lets say 3 times, and then turn the video again and boala I got it, the bonus is I workout extra 5 minutes hehehehe :p

The older I get the more I love me.

The first time I tried SB I literally sat down on my step and cried. I found the choreography so challenging. I did it again last night, I think this was probably #4, and it went much smoother. Not 100% perfect, but I felt like I followed and kept up very well. There are two modifications I do on this dvd. 1) I just do a "normal" repeater. The fast foot repeater really intimidates me right now. 2) I don't do the turns on the triples. I find them very disorienting and I don't really have a ton of room to feel like I can do them without tripping over my step and knocking things over.

When I started the move that really gave me fits was the ricochet! Geez, for the life of me, I couldn't figure out what the heck was going on there. But I have finally figured this out and could do that whole set just fine!

The advice of some of the other ladies here is very sound. Just keep at it. It will get better.

Stepblast is my favorite Cathe step tape. The choreography is very dancy, but she cues so well that after a while you actually anticipate her next move. It's a little frustrating because it moves so quickly that if you slip up on a move you can easily find the place where she's at. It keeps you very focused. I thought Rhythmic Step is her most choreograhed step routine. I don't really do RS as often as STepblast, but I always enjoy doing Step Blast- I think it's the music! :7 :) :D

I used the premixes and did combo one 3 times as my workout. Then when I got that one, I did combo two 3 times in another workout, etc. Combo 3 really is the hardest, but when you get it, it is great fun being able to do all those twists and turns! I also love the music in combo 2!
