start exercising-cravings go berserk! Help!

Does this happen to anyone else? I just started my new exercise routine- every a.m.. Then the rest of the week I just went nuts with the food. I've been working on eating clean and not overeating for forever and even when I wasn't working out, I wasn't gaining weight.

Is it the stress of the new routine? Just feels desperate. I"ma lot more calm today but schnaikies-I hate feeling out of control.

Wish there were some kind of instant slow-mo machine I could switch on to stop the insanity.

Any thoughts?

I have to admit; I'm having difficulty understanding what you're asking. Do you mean since you are working out more, your appetite has increased? That does happen to some people, for me it's after doing SH workouts. I too workout in the morning and sometimes find I'm a little hungrier on those days as well. I'll eat breakfast and have 2 morning snacks before lunch. Are you consuming a lot of caffeine to cause the shakiness? If so, cut back, coffee and soda. Otherwise you may want to look into some herbs that can help calm you down or spend some additional time after your workouts stretching and clearing your mind.

I"m sorry. I read my own post again and I can see where it seems vague.

I'm referring to compulsive eating. I"m not on caffeine.

I"ll get an overwhelming wave of a need to eat junk. It's like I crave a fix.

I've been doing well for a long time. Eating pretty good and trying to eat appropriate amounts. I started exercising and then when I thought I would be able to enjoy the benefit of burning extra calories, these extreme cravings kick in.

Don't know if that makes sense.

Hi, Danna, it's probably unrelated to your new routine. Do you follow your hormonal cycle? I, who usually have no trouble with craving and going nuts, went completely bonkers last week and ate like a horse! Turned out it was a PMS thing and probably yet another indicator fo perimenopausal upheaval.

I am back on track this week. Just dig in your heels and smack those cravings down! They will pass in a few moments wheter you indulge them or not and you'll be happier if that's a not! Good luck!

Oh, no, Bobbi, not another "fling with a Krispy Kreme"! Sorry, yes I'm making fun of you :D

Many of us have had the experience, especially while doing Slow & Heavy for some reason, of being a lot more hungry. A lot more hungry means, for me, that I want to eat two cans of tuna instead of one. But as for craving "junk" as you call it, I learned from my nutritionist that simple carbohydrates can be very addicting. This isn't necessarily caused by hunger. Once you start eating foods like bread, rice, pasta, and sweets, for many of us it's hard to stop.

I would recommend when you feel a craving coming on, eat as much lean protein as you want. Eat fish, chicken, low-fat cottage cheese, tofu, or whatever else you may want. You can also eat "low Glycemic Index" foods. Look this up on the net and get a list of all the foods that don't cause that addictive reaction such as sweet potatoes, kidney beans, lentils, chick peas, and of course fruits and veggies. Stick to these foods and let yourself eat as much as you want. Then you will know for sure that you are feeding actual hunger as opposed to a craving that doesn't really indicate your body's need for food or nutrition.

Good luck!

Nope! No Krispy Kremes were harmed during my PMS. :) In fact, very nutrient dense carbs were the thing but too many. That's great advice, Nancy. You are absolutely right about protein intake. I need to eat more protein. I was doing great with balancing it but I resumed my carb-crazed ways. I'm back on track now. It's funny. Every time I hard boil eggs, I think of Liane! :)
