Stall mats and carpet padding

Hello
I just wanted to share an idea that worked for me. I bought stall mats to work out in my basement. At first we put them on top of the carpet in our family room. Well, these mats were too difficult to move often, and didn't do much for the room's decor, so we decided to make my work out space in one of the unfinished rooms. I noticed immediately how much harder the mats were since they were on bare cement. I went to a local carpet dealer to get the best carpet pad they made. I was going to pay about $30-$50 for the piece I needed. The salesman found a piece cut by accident that was close enough to the right size, so he just gave it to me!
I pulled my stall mats aside, put down the carpet padding and layed the mats over the top. It feels so great I can't wait to do my next Cathe video!
Hope this helps those who workout "downstairs"

I have gone through my ajustment period that Cathe talked about getting used to with a new workout surface so the mats directly on concrete seem fine to me. I'll see what the hubby thinks about finding some cheap carpet pading. I know he's not in any hurry to move these mats again. ;-)

Very valuable info for basement workout rooms...

....and I will have one in about 6 weeks! I'm going to investigate the stall mats!

RE: Very valuable info for basement workout rooms...

Forgive my ignorance, but what is a stall mat. I have been trying to find a rubber mat that I could put on top of carpeting and use for jumping rope. Would this work? and where might one find a stall mat?

thanks

Hi all, my first post here.:-jumpy
I was just checking things out and saw the post about the stall mat. I just purchased one and should have it shortly.
Paulette,
a stall mat, simply enough, is a mat that would go at the bottom of a horses' stall. They are basically thick rubber that absorb a lot of impact. One of the biggest brand names is Loktuff and I learned about it at a fitness machine co. I ordered my piece from www.thecrazyhorse.com and it was like $60.00 with shipping. It's 1/2"x4'x6'. I live in an apt and am worried about the noise, and I was sinking in to the carpet padding too much to balance for yoga, so I think this will do the trick. It should be great for jumping rope, tho they can get heavy. The 4x6 that I got is around 60lbs and the same size in 3/4 inch is like 100lbs :-wow
I hope that helps...

These are also available at Farm equipment stores like Fleet Farm. Like mentioned above these are very heavy. They are not something you would want to move around often.
