Stability ball

Dear Cathe,

I'm still loving your workouts: Dividing my time between Gym Style Back/Shoulders/Biceps, Boot Camp and Muscle Endurance, and am trying off of FitTV the Pyramid Arms, Pyramid Legs, and Coremax 1 and 2.

My question is on the stability ball. If the ball I'm using is not quite fully inflated, will that cause more problems keeping it still, or is that something that comes with better technique and strength development?

(cause I'm wobbling a lot more than I want to when I'm on it :)

Thanks!

Hi Leslie! Glad you are enjoying your workouts.

Actually, a less inflated ball provides MORE stability because more of the ball makes contact with the floor giving you a wider base of support. The harder or more inflated the ball is, the less stable you will be becasue there is less of the ball making contact with the floor, therefore giving you more wobble factor.

Don't get discouraged. Keep at it and gradually your stabilizer muscles will get conditioned enough to reduce the wobble factor. You can place the ball along side of the wall initially on certain exercises if that helps, however, try to use only the less inflated ball as soon as you can. Eventually, down the road, you can firm up your ball a bit for an even greater challenge :7 Good Luck!
