Stability ball as chair?

Any opinions on using a stability ball instead (or alternating with) a chair at the office? My job is sedentary--I try to stand up and move around and stretch whenever I can, but when we're busy I wind up spending hours and hours in front of the computer, on my rear. So I'm wondering if a stability ball might be one healthier option.

Thanks!

Hi BB,

I don't work in an office, but I use my stability ball as a chair at my kitchen table. I use my kitchen table as an office (I work at home), so spend a lot of time "on the ball." I really prefer it, and don't like sitting on regular chairs anymore. It's much nicer for the lower back and hips; they don't get stiff like they used to. I recommend it!

I use mine as a chair if there's company and I don't have enough furniture. I also use my smaller one as a chair when I'm in my daughter's play room. I gave the ball to her when I got my bigger one and the chairs at her little table are a little too small. Not much, just a little.

Oh I'm familiar with those little chairs in the kids room...where you think you fit, until you go to stand up and the chair stays with you! haaaaaa haaaaaa

Thanks Sandra. I was wondering about hip stiffness: I've been getting cramps in, I think, my hip flexor when I sit too long these days.

I can't remember where I saw it but they do make an office chair with a stabitlity ball as the seat. It has a ergonomic back and arm rests. It looks comfy to me! I saw it in one of my many magazines! Susan
