Squats

Is it true that some people experience widening of the hips due to squatting heavy? Has anyone experienced this. I have to some degree. I notice that if I just do standing leg work my hip area varies between 1/2" and 3/4". When I did the Firm's 90 day rotation my hips measured 32" but after I finished that rotation my hips went to 33". I started incorporating running and kickboxing into my cardio routines, but I don't do much floor work (maybe once per week). And I noticed that they're back down to 32 1/2". But I've also heard that resistence training will not "spot reduce" areas (i.e. floor work)only diet and cardio can lean you out. All my leg work is standing, squats, hover squats, lunges, dips, leg presses etc. I'm using a 40lb barbell, sometimes 30lbs, sometimes 50lbs it depends on the day and how I feel. I already have quite a bit of muscle mass already, so I'm not really concerned about that -- it's just the hip phenominon. I follow a low-fat high protein diet and workout six days a week (cardio 4 days, strength training 4x's per week (I tack on cardio after a couple the weight sessions). I'm at 13% bodyfat and wonder if the squats are causing the above or water retension or whatever. It's not a big deal I'm just curious. Sorry for the long post lol!

Hi Heidi. If you're not happy with the results of your current routine, I would suggest a change. Define your goals.

She never said she wasn't happy with the results. All she is doing is wondering if heavy squats add muscle size to the hips. I wonder the same. If true, then will definitely continue to do them!!!
