squats with light weights?

I'm getting back into exercising after a few months, and I am 65 lb. overweight with back issues. Therefore I plan to do squats with 0 to 20 pounds total of weight. Since I am challenging my legs/core with weights that I can safely lift overhead is there any reason I can't do the "squat rack" workouts with my appropriate weights?

Mary, that's what I'm doing. From my preview of the first of the squat rack tapes it appears that the girls are all using barbells and dumbbells with the weighted vest if they need extra weight, while only the guys were using a squat rack. I'm 40 lbs overweight and the plyo exercises are harder on my knees than the straight weight lifting ones. Maybe when I get down closer to my goal weight I will try the plyos.
