Spring into Summer Check in May 19

HI Everyone....do you mind if I join again!!!!!!!!:) Please take me back!;( I have just been so busy lately that I don't even get a chance to be on the computer that much.
And at the sametime I need to kick my a$$ into gear and get ready for shorts and tank tops.
What is everyone doing these days? Any specific eating patterns or rotations?
I know that a few years ago, counting calories worked for me.I was so use to doing it that I knew how many calories was in everything I looked at.That is what I am going to resort to again! I am setting myself for around 1200-1500.I think that will be enough food if I choose wise choices.I did it before and I can do it again, right?
I was also thinking last night, I ALWAYS,faithfully for 4 years worked out after dinner. Then I sort of got into the routine of doing it earlier in the day and even if I did workout in the a.m, I might squeeze another workout in in the evening.Last ngiht I planned on working out but by the time I did the dishes, did homework and then a friend dropped by,I didn't want to.I thought 9 was to late to workout. So I skipped. I also have to get out of that mind set.Even if I did a 30 min run, that would be better then nothing.
Anyway,I am back in action and ready to shed those last 5-10 lbs!
Lori:)

Welcome back Lorihart!
I am doing the May rotation, and just started it on Monday. Great job on trying to be consistant in your workouts again. For me, the earlier in the day I workout, the more consistant I am at getting it done. I do like a cup of cofee first though, LOL.

Good luck on keeping your diet clean. What I find works is to be not too strict, but to be VERY mindful of healthy choices and PORTION CONTROL.
~fruits and veggies 6-8 servings
~limited healthy fats
~enough protein & carbs
~plenty of water
~not more than 3-4 hours between snacks/meals
* I also read something recently that referred to a study finding that eating dairy products(low fat) can help keep off weight.

Thanks for the suggestions Judy. I started working out about 6-7 years ago.And the low-fat diet was in then.I started watching my fat consumption and I started exercising again.I wouldn't even eat an egg for goodness sake.No doubt it was probably worse for my mental state then it was for my body.I would have a heart attack if I knew we were going to my in-laws for dinner and they were having hamburgers.BUT the weight came off and I didn't even think I was on a diet.I had choose it as a way of life.
I decided that I was being to hard on myself.I wasn't hungry or anything but if I missed a workout OR if I had ate something I shouldn't have, the guilt would plague me for the day.I realized that this was no way to live.I was consumed with working out and eating right and I was putting myself first before my family.
WELL.....now I am gone the other way.I eat it b/c I am allowed x number of cals today,or b/c I just ran 14kms.But for some reason,I have gained 8 lbs.
Will I ever get a realistic balance and ever have a good relationship with food?
Anyway...I just finished doing Legs & Glutes,CTX shou, bic, and tric.I am now trying to debate if I should have a little run or do it later. My legs are always so weak after weight work.
I will check back later,
Lori:)

Hi Lori!

Welcome back to the check in.

I've not been on a rotation per say due to many family reasons mainly dealing with being sick and having sick kids...it just wipes me out mentally and physically.

I like working out 1st thing in the am but I usually workout after dropping the kiddos off at school and if I'm not insanely hungry I jump into a workout(8:30). Now today well I'm feeling better and the lil one is finally back at school. But I've not worked out just yet as I'm hungry so I'm having a protein shake with some dry oatmeal mixed in . I figure in about an hour(11:00) or so I'll be ready to do my thing. I hate it when it's that late but oh well :::shrug:::

Once the kids are on summer break I'll be able to jump into a workout as soon as I get up(6:15) as it is right now I get up make my rounds into their rooms to wake them up(6:15-:20) then into the kitchen to make them breakfast(6:30-:45). While they are eating I'm getting dressed(6:45-7:00), by the time I'm done in the bathroom they are done eating, then it's making sure everyone took care of their grooming(7:15) and ready to go(7:30 -:40). I only have a cup of coffee while I'm preparing breakfast so when I get back(8:15)if I can I'll wait to eat but sometimes I can't wait.

Sheesh ...I'm long winded today

Nice to see some of the older faces this morning!

Welcome back Lorihart! BTW, don't know if you checked the rotations forum but I posted Marlene's original tank top rotation that you had asked for.

I'm currently doing the May 2003 variety training rotation. This week is all CTX series, and today was 10*10*10*. I pulled my left quad yesterday during Leaner Legs and although it feels better, I had a hard time with 10*10*10 today. My left leg felt like lead and it was really hard to do any jumping moves. This made the 4 mini blasts in the hi/lo section and some of the step moves very difficult. I'm a bit disappointed that I couldn't keep up and am trying to keep a healthy perspective that I did what I could do and to move on from there.

I have my Hawaii trip 3 weeks from today!!! I can't wait. Things seem to be coming together with both the workouts and the eating. While I still eat junk from time to time, I eat 'clean' about 85% of the time. Not too shabby, IMO.

Shywolf- Glad that you and the kiddos are all back on the road to feeling better.

Judy- What stretching/yoga workouts are you incorporating for the May 2004 rotation.

Well, off to do some stuff at work!

Lori, welcome back! I'm with Judy -- NOT TOO STRICT (I find myself "losing it" so soon if I obsess over ever bit of food that passes through my lips), enough macronutrients to fuel your workouts, lots of water, and meals evenly spaced throughout the day. Also, allow your body to recover so it won't eat up precious muscle, which is what burns fuel even when you're at rest.

I'm doing more circuit training than just cardio this month to burn the flab I gained during last month's vacation. Between spurts of circuit sessions, I do my usual strength training.

Shywolf, I hope your kids feel better soon. Your life these days seems to be a race with and around the clock.

I'd like to give my upper and lower body one more day to rest even though they're no longer sore. I guess I could do cardio, but I don't want to overwork my knees. Some core work followed by yoga certainly sounds good today. Something slow and relaxing.

Okay, I can't believe how fast my body is getting back in shape. I've only been working out for 2 and 1/2 weeks, with about five rest days since the start of the month. (I stopped my workouts third week of April since I had to fly back here.) This morning I put on a pair of slacks I don't wear too often because I can't button it and to my surprise, I was able to button it without feeling like my insides were being held by a vise. Also, I had more room in the butt area. Maybe it's the kickboxing. Or maybe, with my overuse injuries not having allowed me to do squats and lunges with heavy weights for a long time, I lost muscle in my lower body.

Edited to add: Sabine, I'm sending healing vibes to your left quad.:) I know how disappointing it is to try to work out with an injury, but do let your legs rest. Hmmm... I'm all about "rest" today.:)

Later,
Pinky

Hi there! Wow, everyone is checking in today.
Lori, nice to ‘meet’ you. I’m fairly new to this check in. I look forward to more of your posts.

Brenda, how many children do you have? From you post yesterday, it sounded like you have a few.

Judy, I had asked Cathe about stretching workouts and she said you can do her cool down stretches back to back if you want, since you said the one you did was boring. Also, I like the name of your cat. It’s cute. I’m really allergic to cats.

Vilma, how was your Birthday? Did you enjoy your cake on your cheat day? I’m sorry to hear your kids are sick. My sisters kids are prone to ear infections. I hope yours don’t get them as much as hers do. Yikes!

Pinky and Elizabeth, thank you for your kind words regarding my sons size. He is small and always will be. I’m not tall and neither is my husband (we’re both 5’2”). He has just started taking Tae kwan do. It’s very expensive, but we hope he grows up having confidence in himself because of his size.

Sabine, glad to hear your quad feels better and your able to still workout.

Well, this morning was a good one!! I did Back, PS, SH (w/o deadlifts), PH AND MIS!
Then, I did ME, abs and since I had ten minutes left I added BC cardio!

I was re-reading a reply from Cathe on a weight loss post, and I think since this is my third week of one part/day, I might take her suggestion of doing the following for next week:
"Circuit Max", "Boot Camp", "Body Max", "Cardio and Weights", "Legs and Glutes", "Step, Jump, and Pump". Instead of doing weights later in the day this week, you will instead do IMAX 2 two days this week (on any day of your choice as long as it is not consecutive IMAX 2).

The next week we’re on vacation.

Have a great day!

Susan C.M.:D

Ok, so yesterday ran out of time again, but I was able to get in the three combos in KPC, so I got in a good half hour or so of a cardio workout. SAd. Oh well, I had a hair appointment, so at least my hair looks good now! Today, I have a really bad headache. DH took all the painkillers to work with him, so I have nothing to take the edge off. I woke up with it and it's just not going away, I'm affraid it may just drain all evergy from me before I get to working out this afternoon. But, maybe I can ask a neighbor if they have some Advil or something. Just sitting here and my head is pulsing! Ouch!
Sabine where in Hawaii are you going? Oh it's so pretty there, I've been there before, but it was 7 years ago. I would like to go back for our 10 year anniversary, so in 5 years now. That way our son is old enough to take care of his diabetes on his own, and when we have a second child next year that one will be old enough to be with the grandparents or someone that we trust. I agree with Pinky, no matter how hard it is to stop workingout for a few days, you really should try to give your quad a rest right now. It needs some time to heal. Maybe sub some Pilates, or do some upper body work. But, try to give it a couple days rest. You're in good shape so it should heal pretty fast.
Hello to all! Have a great day.

Kathy

Sabine~
I will be doing Karen Voight's Yoga Sculpt on my stretching days. I have used this many times before and do like it. The second section has nice ab work. I also printed out Cathe's suggestions for prolonged stretching after a good cardio session and may alternate use that also. Before each stretch session, I plan to do 20-30" of all out cardio to get my muscles VERY warm.
