Sports Massage

Hi All,

I have DOMS frequently and my recovery rate is a little slow no matter what I do. I was wondering if sports massage would help. Has anyone tried it with any frequency and found it to be helpful? I'm 38 and very physically active, not just with exercise, but in general, but sometimes I am just hobbling around because i am so sore, lol!

There's a Massage Envy opening up in my area that offers sports massage and I was thinking of getting a membership, but wanted to see if anyone has found it helpful. Also, how frequently did you have to get the massages to to see a difference.

Thanks!

Elizabeth

Hi MJ,

Ok, I did a little online research about BCAA and I am very intrigued. It seems to have quite a lot of benefits in addition to muscle recovery.

thanks for your input!

I try to get a massage once a month or so. From working out six days a week and sitting a lot at work, it helps. If I could afford it, I would go twice a month.

If you do decide to go to Massage Envy, make sure the therapist has some experience since they usually hire people right out of school. I had a terrible experience with them and will not go back. I finally found a wonderful therapist at a local spa who is into working out and understands the strain it puts on the body.

Thanks Melagras!! I wondered about the experience level considering they are a chain. I will definitely do some research. I'm glad to see it helped you. I think I just needed an "excuse" to treat myself to them.. ;)

When I was marathon training I went once a week to a FANTASTIC therapist and it was worth every penny. This wasn't a chain and she was very experienced in sports massage - it was nearly PT.... I'd highly recommend it and found it most definitely helpful.
