Split days vs full body

Have a quick question. What is the benefit of doing split body(specifically upper body) workouts? For example, the GS workouts split the upper body into two separate sections. I'm not a huge fan of the split workouts just because it seems like the upper body workouts burn less calories and somehow I feel like I'm 'cheating' because I didn't get two strength workouts a week for total upper body.

What are you thoughts?

I tend to lift as heavy as possible the days I do Gym Style and Pure Strength. I will pause quite a bit as well so by the time I get done the dvd it's usually an hour. This works for me and I feel like I get a great workout! Splitting up the upper body allows you to do more sets per body part, which will help you build muscle. That's my goal.

I actually have been pondering this myself!
So far I've decided that I can get a really good hour-long workout for legs & glutes with the variety of DVDs Cathe has.

Then on the next day or day after I can get a really good hour-long workout for just the upper body.

In one of Cathe's newsletters there was a study that shows weight lifting can burn a ton of calories, and that calorie burn doesn't need to be only from cardio.

Like Beth-B-Fit, it seems I have to pause frequently and I also am determined to get stronger.

Thanks for the replies. Sounds like I need to figure out my goals and go from there. Strength and muscle definition are my goals. I think I'll finish my rotation with three full body workouts a week and then try a split body rotation and see how I like it.
