Splenda...

I just bought my first box of Splenda soley because I had a coupon for it. I tasted it a few weeks ago in a restaraunt and it seemed pretty good but it's sooo darn expensive!!!

I drink several cups of coffee a day and use 2 teaspoons of sugar in each. I will go through this little 1 pound box of Splenda in no time flat! I can't imagine paying all of that $$$ out on a regular basis just to save a few calories...

So my question is...is it really worth it???

My coffee is the one sugary thing in my day that I GOTTA have! :9 }( :9

I think it's worth it. I like splenda better then sugar. Plus if you go out to eat or to the gas station ever for coffee they have those packs there. Just pick up a few to go :)

HEY Don't look at me like that I know we have all done it a time or two! :)

Wendy, I, personally would rather sacrifice for the good stuff. And I do. It's good old fashioned creamer for me. I am the world's unpickiest eater, but after a few weeks of this stuff, I could not ignore the aftertaste.

Seriously, I can eat almost anything off this planet and feel satisfied, but after trying this out for a while, I was grossed out.

I use to use Equal all the time but I switched to Splenda. It is more expensive but I found buying the big bags of loose Splenda instead of the packets is more economical. I use it in the sugar bowl just like sugar and it lasts longer than the packets.

Hey Wendy I think its worth it IMO. If you belong to a Whole Sale club maybe you can buy it there:) Now these days when I go to any coffee shop I grap a few and stuff it in my purse:).

I use 1/2 and 1/2 in my coffee and NOT the fat free kind. }( The FF version is fine for my taste buds but again, NOT for my wallet!

And forget about using skim or low fat milk in my coffee! ACK! HORRID!

It's funny though...I complain about the cost of the Splenda and the FF 1/2 and 1/2 but I buy pretty expensive milk! LOL I guess it all depends on what's important to you....

Actually Marla...I'm sitting here drinking my first cup of coffee with Splenda in it and I must say...I have to agree with you-I don't HATE it but I'm certainly not fond of the flavor now that's I'm using it in my coffee. It tasted better straight out of the packet at the restaraunt! LOL Well, I guess that settles it! I'll use this box until it's gone and then back to SUGAR for me!}(

Maybe I'll just learn to like my coffee with ONE teaspoon of sugar instead of TWO!:)

Thanks for your responses, Ladies!

Wendy,

If it weren't for splenda, then I would have been carted off along time ago in a white suit! I use some in my oatmeal, tea, etc. I don't mind the other sugar substitutes, but splenda taste better to me. I get mine from Costco's. Not as expensive that way as you can buy a box of 2 bags of the stuff or a box of the tiny packets. The packets last me about 3 months.

Hi Wendy, I use Splenda as a sub for sugar al lthe time. It is more expensive but I cheat and grab handfuls whenever I go into a coffee shop.

It is worth it though}(

Try the Splenda for Baking also. You use half the amount as a substitute for sugar in recipes. I really like it!

I use stevia in coffee...It takes a bit to get used to, but a natural sweetener alternative...You use just a little tiny bit...The small bottle that I bought has over 600 servings in it...

Hi,
I used splenda once over the summer at a hotel coming home from a vacation in my coffee. Let me tell you what happened, my eyes got so swollen, I could barely see out of them. Also, splenda is made out of fertilizer they use for atomic bombs. I don't think I'd want it in my body. I was stupid to use it in the hotel because I wanted something sweet in my coffee and one packet of regular sugar is not enough so I put both sugar and splenda in. Aspartame is made out of charcoal...The kind that gives miners lung cancer. I don't think splenda or any sugar substitutions are worth the money. I use turbinado sugar and IMO it's so much better and tastes very good. I use stevia once in a while. Not too often since they're expensive but I'd rather spend 10 bucks on a small bottle of stevia than on splenda which is total crap to me. I also use full fat 1/2 and 1/2. I can't stand milk or skim milk in my coffee either! Besides, if you drink your coffee in the morning, all the calories will be burned off after you work out or keep yourself busy so I also feel splenda is worthless and useless.

I don't see the benefit of Splenda (created by treating sugar with chlorine) over sugar if you're talking about such a small amount (though you could try and see if you can cut the sugar back to 1 1/2 teaspoons per cup of coffee). I'd stick with the sugar (raw sugar). Actually, I'd personally use stevia, which actually has some health benefits to it.
