speaking of Batman

I read the posts about seeing the Batman movie (also a big fan of the mysterious man in the batsuit) and wondered if anyone read the article about the star in People magazine last week.

He talked about how he dieted to lose ONE THIRD of his bodyweight, getting down to less than 100 lbs. to play some drug user or something in a movie, and then how he bulked up in a matter of months to play Batman. Someone starring with him said that when he first found out this guy (can't remember his name!) was going to play Batman, he thought, "oh, he's too thin to pull it off" and then when he showed up for filming, he was like a body-builder.

This is what I wonder: how do these stars manage to alter their bodies in 3 months when I've been hacking away at mine for 3 years and still only have a couple less lbs. and a little muscle to show for it. I'm not actually bitter, just wondering how extreme their regimes must be! Isn't this sort of thing hard on your heart?

I just read tonight that the actor gained 100 pounds to play Batman. I didn't know that he had dieted for another role and was underweight to start with, but I thought that was absolutely amazing!

Well after seeing Hillary Swank in Million Dollar Baby interviews she explained that an entire team dedicated their entire life to getting her ready in three months for the film and changing her body. I mean she would work out 3-4 hours a day and an a nutritionist and chef who managed everything she put in her month.
I am sure the Batman guy had something similiar.

Our slow steady route is probably better :)

He played an insomniac. He also said he was bulked up by eating like a maniac, but did not feel strong in spite of eating anything he liked. He was inclined to get sick. So that says alot about how important it is to feed oursleves properly.

They have very expensive professional consultants and trainers helping them out. It's a full-time job for them to get their bodies looking the way they need to. This guy wants his name to be one you can remember (which apparantly most of us can't at this point). He's willing to do whatever it takes to be in a movie that can do that.

I'm so glad you enjoyed it, Donna. I knew you would.

We rented The Machinist the evening after we saw Batman. Christian Bale was so thin in this movie, you could see the skeletal cheekbones in his face. I can certainly believe he gained 100 lbs for Batman because his biceps were AMAZING!

Hi all! I remember when Christian Bale was bulking up to play the lead in the movie American Psycho that his trainer was Scott Cole. Scott Cole is pretty big in the fitness business and has a lot of videos. He seems to specialize in yoga and tai chi, but I think he can do just about anything. Anyway, when Scott Cole was presenting at a conference he mentioned that he trained Christian Bale although I don't know if he is still his trainer but I thought I would mention it.

Switching to the movie, I think one of my favorite scenes is when Alfred tells Batman to lift the huge log off his chest. "What are all those push-ups for if you can't lift this?" (I am not very good at remembering exact quotes)

I think I might be in the minority though, I was kind of bored by the Batman movie, maybe I was expecting too much. I found myself wishing Spider Man would show up.
