Speaking of Aging...Clothes?

LauraMax,

I heard about that stupid skirt rule too on the Oprah show. I vowed I would not watch Oprah after that as Oprah agreed. I still watch though. Really dumb if you got the legs for it. I am not sure I do though. My knees are kind of yucky, but I think my legs in general are good enough.

Charlotte~~

NO ABOVE KNEE SKIRTS AFTER 35!!!???!!?? Pish Posh....

This 47 yo baby got long, slender, muscular legs and wears them skirts!

Only 30 here so I still tend to dress trendy. My very cute and in shape 43 yo boss swears by Ann Taylor Loft (not the regular store), Old Navy (for cute jeans not too low cut) and White House/Black Market. She always looks great and never like she is "trying to hard". Hope that helps some!

I LOVE Ann Taylor and Ann Taylor Loft. I can also find cute things at Eddie Baurer (their below the waist jeans and pants are cute).

I'm dying over here at the "no skirts above the knee after age 35" rule. Has anyone seen Tina Turner lately? That lady is in her 70's and has better legs than most 16 year olds! Lucille Ball was another one with fab legs into her 70's.

I'm with Christine & Kirsten's boss on the "where & what" of clothing.

Tina Turner - my hero - I wanna move and look like that from now til 90.

I shop at Ann Taylor, Ann Taylor Loft and Casual Corner (until they started closing). I still buy Gap jeans because I find that they fit me best and I wear skirts above the knee. If you have the legs, why hide them?

Yes.....those WNTW gals are dressed up all the time. You know, you may be looking better in your clothes than you think. Dressing rooms in stores make us look alot worse. Maybe shopping with a friend with good taste in clothes would help. Also Kohl's has the Daisy Fuentes line.....many things flattering for us I think.

I like skirts with interesting prints and a clingy type top...always looks good!

I'm 48 and can wear 2s and 4s, but I don't like looking like I'm trying to pretend I'm a teenager. Not that I want to look "dumpy", but I tend to select classic looking things that I would also have worn when I was 25. I do have some low-rise jeans. I do tend to show a lot of my arms in warm weather, and my abs are totally flat so I don't mind if my clothes make that obvious, although I dont' actually "show" my belly.

I like to buy casual clothes at REI, and other outdoor clothing stores. It's youngish, it's practical and it stays in style. You can actually use it for "muscle-powered" activities. I like that look.

I'm with Charlotte. Besides, too often, the smallest size in the 'Misses' department is a size 4 and truth be told, a bunch of us here have not seen a size 4 since we were pregnant. It's the 'Junior' sections that carry the smaller sizes that actually fit.

As for the skirt rules based on age...when my legs start looking like the legs of the average woman my age, then I'll think about the rules.

Skirts that fall below my knee make me look short and dumpy. I go for just at the knee or slightly above. And I agree--finding shorts in the summer is a pain in the rear. I need at least one pair of decent fitting, appropriate shorts to wear to the company picnic! All I have are a really comfortable fitting pair of khaki shorts that are 2 sizes too big are need to be held up with a belt.

Anyhow, I guess I need to go find an Ann Taylor Loft for spring/summer clothes. I went through my spring shirts yesterday, and they're all faded or stretched out.

I missed the show on the skirt lengths!! Almost all of my skirts are above the knee. The only one that's not is a real trendy one I got at a place called Rampage. Re: shorts, my 2 favorites that I have are from the Gap and Tommy Hilfiger. Low rise khaki. i wear them all summer.

I tend to get most my clothes at Gap these days. Generally I wear pants and turtlenecks in the winter. I like the lower cut jeans.

Agree though you don't want to look too much like a teenager but can still dress young. I always remember there was a woman in town had long blonde hair looked 20s from the back and my b/f checked her out and she was so MUCH older it actually made her look older (the contrast of the face and rest).
