Soy Milk vs. Cow's Milk

Hi

I'm not supposed to have any dairy or soya in my diet so I have rice milk instead and think it tastes so much nicer than both cows and soya milk - with no side effects either (such as bloating etc)

i switched to light soy because it has less fat and less calories! heck.. i can light CHOCOLATE soy milk and it's less calories/fat than skim milk!

i can have dairy/milk products.. i did it strictly for a calorie/fat thing...

cute work out clothes are good for AT LEAST an additional 10-15 calories burned!

That is so strange! i was going to bring this up too. i am allergic to cow's milk. it makes me terribly congested. So, i got some soy milk to try and see if it does the same thing or not. i was going to ask if anyone else was allergic to cow's but could drink soy.

I don't really have an opinion on types of milk. I drink cow's milk, even though I'm not a baby cow. ;) I ususally only have it in my breakfast cereal. I've tried Silk, but thougt it was too creamy (I know, I'm weird). I know soy is supposed to be good for you, however I remember reading, when the soy craze was starting to catch on, that women who are at an increased risk for breast cancer should avoid soy products because it further increases your risk (only if you're already high risk, not for normal risk women). I am high risk, so I've avoided soy since I heard that. But I've also read from other sources that soy may actually help prevent breast cancer. There seems to be some division in the medical community about this, and a huge lack of really good clinical studies, although this one is interesting:

I drink skim cow's milk. I was drinking fat-free soy milk for a few months until I read that it can interfere with your thyroid functioning. Since I have a problem with that already, I went back to cow. Organic, of course.

I've been drinking skim milk (from the cow) for years until I came here and started hearing about soy milk so I decided to give it a try. Doesn't hurt that I had a coupon for a free carton as well!;) I used it in my cereal and it was okay, but I prefer the flavor of cow's milk so I will probably only go soy when I can get it for nothin' again....

I switched to soy milk for the main reason that I am a Vegan!! And now I do prefer the taste of soymilk...:)...Carole

I almost prefer the taste of soy milk, also....especially Silk Light Vanilla.

There seems to be so many conflicting reports between soy vs. cow.

Cow's milk may contain hormones and antibiotics. Also, many people are allergic to it (without even knowing--give up milk for a while and you may find that other allergies lessen). Cow's milk was meant for baby cows.

Soy milk has phytoestrogens, which can help with PMS and menopausal symptoms. It may also help prevent certain cancers. The Chinese have used soy milk and other soy products for centuries, and have low instances of breast cancer (except when they change to a more Western diet.

I only drink non-dairy "milks" because I'm a vegan.

I do not drink cow's milk - YUCK! Pus, antibiotics, Bovine Growth Hormone, infections, and other nasty things do not interest me! No other mammal on earth drinks another mammal's breast milk-so why should we? It is not natural.
I also will not drink soy milk, as a Vegetarian, I consume enough soy in my diet.
I prefer fortified rice milk-it tastes good, it is low cal, low fat, and contains the same amount of calcium as any cow's milk. :)

I drink the Silk brand of soy milk. I loved cow's milk but switched because I was going vegan. I don't miss it at all now. The thought of cow's milk kind of grosses me out, first because unless it's organic, you don;t know what kind of hormones those animals are being pumped with, and second because they have to keep those poor cows pregnant all the time! Just my opinion, and I don't intend any offense to "regular" milk drinkers :)

I have never been a milk drinker. My kids however, were milk drinkers until they tried soy milk last year. Dad is the only cow milk drinker in the house now! Soy milk has a "beany" neautral kind of flavor. A vanilla soy latte w/ ground nutmeg and cinnamon is delish...;-) deb

Soy milk is disgusting, leave nasty aftertaste, makes me want to gag.

Love cow's milk, full fat for coffee and 2% for drinking straight. I won't go any lower than that, because then it ceases to be and taste like milk. I like a cold glass of milk in Summer to take all my vits tabs with, and warm hot milk with Nesquik choc powder in Winter to make me feel cozy in bed.

As a vegetarian, milk is a protein and calcium source, also vits D and A. I cook with it, in cheese sauces and dessert custards.

I suspect, personal taste is more important than nutrition when it comes to deciding which milk to have, as would lactose intolerancy.

I am deliriously happy for all those who can stomach soy products of any kind! Yuck!

Clare ;-)
