Sorry..Yet another BCP questin

Ok....I scheduled an appt with my dr and am in between pill packs right now so I will not be starting a new pack on Sunday. I'm SCARED! I've had this "in me" for 16 years and am a little worried about how going off of it will affect me....mainly my hair. I guess I'm worried that the change in hormones or possibly my body not being able to start releasing estrogen on it's own will affect the hair. Has anyone been on them for awhile then come off? How did it go? Maybe I'm just not that "pill knowledgable," but since I've been on it, what has been happening to the natural estrogen my body would have been producing?

Thanks,

Kim

These are all excellent questions for your Dr.--don't forget to ask him/her these.

As far as my experiences with BC pills go, I've been on and off them for the past 8 years and have never had any problems. I have an incredibly irregular cycle so the bc pills help me regulate that.

Dittos Allison here...

I went off the pill in 1994 and noticed a slight surge in my hormones. I dealt with it because it was mostly emotional. I am glad that I no longer take them.

Good luck to you,

Kim -

I agree, ask your doctor these questions.

I was them for 20 years. I went off them about 3 years ago. No side-effects. To be honest, it is nice not having to worry about taking a pill everyday!! :)

Also -- I didn't notice any difference in my hair.

Agree with everyone else...definitely ask your doctor these questions.

I was on the pill for close to ten years I didn't have any side effects when I went off of them, including with my hair.

I've been on and off the Pill a few times (because of pregnancy or like when we moved back to the U.S. from England and I didn't have a doc right away to prescribe new ones). The only problem I have had is migraine headaches, but that's probably only because I'm already prone to menstrual migraines. I agree with the others that it's probably something to ask your doc. Everyone is so different with these things!

I was on the bill for 9 years before I went off to have my first child, no ill affects. Then on for 4 years and off to have the second child. The on for 3 years, started having issues with it and decided to go ahead and have my tubes tied. that was 13 years ago, and hair is fine, although it is much more curly than it used to be(I actually noticed that after child 2, she gave me curly hair), but otherwise no ill affects.

Thanks so much everyone. It really helps getting info and hearing about experiences from others. I will definitely ask my dr about all this stuff. I really want the tubal and will be fine if my periods go wonky again...some people just reported really heavy bleeding, depression, weight gain, etc (tubal ligation syndrome). I wonder if they "tested" a few mos off the pill first to see what would happen before they had the tubal. Interesting.

Thanks again!!
