Sore breasts a menopause symptom?

Anyone experienced a sudden onset of sore/tender breasts?

Within the month my breasts have become sore/very tender, like when I breastfed and they started to engorge. I've never experienced this other than when I breastfed. I'm not pregnant.

Is this a symptom or result of peri-menopause?
Any other ideas?

I'm 47 and probably pre-menopausal. I too had times of breast tenderness even between my periods. I started taking Evening Primrose oil and also Vitamin B6 a few months ago. Soreness has now been almost non-existent. Crossing my fingers...

Me too, perimenopause. I also notice more breast tenderness if I'm consuming alot of caffeine. I drink a pot of tea every morning and I'm okay with that. If I eat alot of chocolate in a month I'll suffer for it so I really watch the chocolate. I'm not a pop drinker so that isn't a source for me. So, look at your caffeine consumption too.

I think this is actually rather common. When I spoke to my doctor about it, he told me to take Vitamin E. I thought something was seriously wrong with me because they hurt so bad. The Vitamin E has helped tremendously!!! I take 400 I.U. Hope this helps!:)

Thanks for sharing this info. I have this same problem periodically. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. Some months I hurt like crazy, others I don't even notice. I am going to try the vitamin E.

It was interesting to read your post as that is exactly what I have been experiencing. I am 47 and this just started happening to me a couple of months ago. Same as you, I haven't felt this since I nursed. Is your tenderness in the same area each month?

I'm 44 and have been experiencing the same thing for the past 6 months. They get pregnancy-like swollen and sore right before my period. Ah, the joys of aging. At least they're bigger during that time.:)

What you're experiencing can either be a symptom of PMS, or more likely you're going through perimenopause. Evening Primrose oil does help (as does Borage oil). Please take this in oil form instead of capsules as it's more potent. Also, I have found that taking straight flaxseed oil will help with the breast tenderness as well. I've had some friends take either the Women's Essential Oil (combination of Evening Primrose and Flaxseed oil) or straight Flaxseed oil. Both indicated no breast tenderness by the next cycle. I personally prefer Barlean's flaxseed oil products with the high lignans. You can find this in your local healthfood store.

hope this helps.
