I love love love music, and for me, music seems to touch me deeply (i don't think i'm the only one). I would love to hear which songs move you. Here are a list of my favs:

Wayne :)

Eye of the Tiger..........all the way.......it's that beginning part just gets me moving instantly.....! (Go Rocky!) :)

Cheers, Marcia :)

touch me deeply

When someone says something "touch(ed) me deeply" I don't think about working out--I'm thinking love song, nostalgia, break up song, etc...Is that what you mean, Wayne?

Here are songs that move me (in the ways mentioned above)

"It's been a while" Staind
"Angel" Sara McLaughlin
"Miracles" Jefferson Airplane
"Wild Horses" Rolling Stones

:) Every time I hear Cats in the Cradle by Harry Chapin I am moved. The song fits my ex-husband to a T and life turned out just the way the song describes (too little time for the boys and not enough time for him).

What i mean by "moving" are songs that touch you or move your soul (too deep???). Not workout songs. Just thought it would be nice to see what songs other people like, and what moves your heart. x

Wayne, I too love music! Since you are looking for songs that move people to tears, I will list those:

I Love You But I Don’t Trust You Anymore -by Prince (from Rave Unto The Joy Fantastic with a beautiful guitar accompaniment by Ani Difranco)
Misguided Angel -by Cowboy Junkies (from The Trinity Sessions)
This Is The Last Day of Our Acquaintance -by Sinead O’Connor (from I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got)
Me and A Gun -by Tori Amos (from Little Earthquakes)
Redeemer -by Nicole C Mullen (how can someone’s voice be that pretty!?!)
Vincent (or is it called Starry Starry Night?) -by Don McLean
Little Digger -by Liz Phair (from Liz Phair)
What’s the Matter Here? -by 10,000 Maniacs (I have a burned copy, not sure which album it’s on, sorry)
Heal the Pain -by George Michael (from Listen Without Prejudice Vol. I)
Playboy Mommy -by Tori Amos (from From The Choirgirl Hotel)
You Made A Fool Of Me -by Miami Sound Machine (from Primative Love)

That's it for now!

Hey, thanks for that. I too like heal the pain, very sad. Tori Amos is pretty good me thinks, i like me and a gun. Never heard of Redeemer , but will go out and buy the album just cause you made such a reference to it. Thanks so much again.

"Wake Me Up Inside" by Evanescence (sp?)
It's really dramatic. And it is not overplayed (a real spoiler for me ) on my local FM station.

That reminds me...

Evanescence - My Immortal. How sad and moving is that song. Just her voice and a piano...im so sad just thinking about it! Can't believe i missed that one out of my favoutires...

Redeemer, is a Christian song, just thought I'd let you know. Redeemer is on her first album, and though it is my favorite song by her, I actually like her second album more. That one's called "Talk About It" and there are three gorgeous slow songs on that one, and a hidden track where she sings to her children. Sounds cheesy, but it's actually really nice. She has the most beautiful voice. Have you heard "Playboy Mommy" by Tori? She wrote it after her miscarriage. It's about a woman who parties too hard and loses her baby. It's so sad. But beautiful. And "Misguided Angel" by The Cowboy Junkies is a sad, sad song about a woman telling her family that even though her new boyfriend is wrong for her, she loves him anyway. I'm gettin' all teary eyed just thinking about it! Aaagghh!

Just thought of a few more:
Lost Cause- by Beck (from Sea Change)
Seventeen- by Janis Ian (what a beautiful, sad song)
Radio Cures- by Wilco (from Yankee Hotel Foxtrot)
Close- by Soul Asylum (from Candy From A Stranger)

For me top 40 pretty much blows.
I think in recent years Matchbox 20 is a great band in a sea of no-talent garbage. I like Back to Good and Unwell by them.
I need hard stuff while working out. Something like Aerosmith or ACDC. Anything Aerosmith does is usually great. More recently "Just Push Play" is a good rocker.
Trevor :)

I need to go out and get some Tori Amos albums :) I've never listened to her, but obviously, she has touched many of you.

I think there are many songs out there that touch me greatly, unfortunately I don't remember them all. The Cat's in the Cradle is also one of my favorites. I know so many people who are very selfish and don't make any effort to spend time with their loved ones. It's so sad how it hurts everybody in the end.

The one song that really affects me is Tim McGraw's "Please Remember Me." It is a beautiful song, but it came out just as my boyfriend of many years left me. It was so sadly appropriate. It hurt me so much that I couldn't listen to it at all for a couple of years. Even after nearly 5 years, it is somewhat painful, but I can get through it now.

I am also a very big fan of Evenescence's album. As a whole, it's somewhat hard to handle, because it is SO dark, but each song has a beautiful sound and haunting lyrics. I love it.

There are more, but I can't think of them right now :)

Here's my list...

Albonini Adagio (wonderful classical piece)
Winona Judd 'Is it over yet'
Depeche Mode 'Somebody'
Bonnie Riatt 'I can't make you love me'
Van Morrison 'These are the days'
The Sundays 'Wild Horses'
The Smiths 'Asleep'

Actually, you didn't misunderstand. The original post did ask for songs that "move you" emotionally, not physically.

Michael W. Smith's "You are the love of my life" and Garth Brooks' "If tomorrow never comes" are a couple of my favorite mushy love songs. Being married to Mr. Stoic who rarely expresses emotion, I can appreciate these.

I also got to the point where I had to switch stations when "Butterfly kisses" by Bob Carlisle came on to avoid crying.

Yeah, I'm sappy.

My favorite U2 song is "Kite". Thank you for reminding me of that one. They are a gorgeous band. And Bono is a poet.

sara..
I can totally relate to that! A few of mine are:

"Please remember Me" -tim mcgraw
"One more Day" -Diamond Rio
" Estranged"- Guns and Roses
"November Rain"- guns and roses
"You were always on my mind"- willie nelson
"He stopped loving her today"- George Jones
"Sunday Morning Sidewalk"-Kris Kristoferson

Jeez, there is so much more but I gotta think about it....

Janice

Oh wow... Great thread! Songs that move me would be:

Hold On (Sara Mclachlan - Fumbling Towards Ecstacy)
Lightning Crashes (Live - Throwing Copper)
One (U2 - thank you Pepnchar) as well as One Tree Hill from U2
Against the Wind (Bob Seger - LOVE that piano)
The Living Years (Mike and the Mechanics)

There are so many more but these are some big ones.
