some bleeding

Hi guys-

I'm a little over 9 weeks pregnant- and two days ago I started bleeding. It wasn't enough to get a lot onto my panties, but it seemed like a lot was there anything that I wiped. It was brownish, and lasted about a day and a half.

I called my doctor and they had me come right in and they did an ultrasound and checked everything. My little 'chickpea' is still going great, heart going strong, everything looks perfect and no internal bleeding could be seen - much to my relief!!!

I have not been excercising consistently or heavily since this is my first pregnancy and I've been kind of nervous. I ordered Cathe's beginner/intermediate DVDs and have been doing them, just so I would be doing something. My doctor said for me to rest for about a week and I should be fine, she said a lot of people have some unexplained bleeding during pregnancy.

Do you guys think that it's OK for me to keep up my moderate exercise? I don't want to completely panic over this and have it have an impact on my health during my pregnancy since I'm already being so cautious.

Has anyone had bleeding and still kept up moderate excercise? Or am I being ridiculous and should just cut it out all together, at least until the second trimester gets here??

Thanks for any advice!

Very early in my pregnancy I had a little bleeding. It's due to your uterus expanding. I continued to exercise just as I had been all along and have no complications at all.

I had bleeding during my pregnancy, too. There is such an increase of blood volume while you are pregnant, and all of it has one goal: to get nutrients to the baby in that particular area. There are new blood vessels that form all around your uterus and cervix, and your cervix changes during pregnancy. Since it was brownish, I wouldn't worry. If it is bright red, you will want to be more concerned about it.

I would knock off high impact stuff. Any bleeding in pregnancy or postpartum is aggrivated by the pressure put on a body in these activities - running, any jumping moves, and such (i.e IMAX) . I would think after your dr gives you the go ahead, moderate exercise is fine. I had unexplained bleeding at 6 weeks, and waited a least a full week since my bleeding to resume exercise, for my own peace of mind. What is one week in regards to 40 weeks? Glad your u/s was so positive!

I had implantation bleeding very early on in my 1st two pregnancies. As long as the blood is brown & not red it is usually attributed to implantation bleeding. I continued with my exercises as normal.
Congrats on your pregnancy!

Thank you ladies for your posts!! They make me feel a lot better! I think I will keep it easy until the weekend and then gently start again..

Hi ruppie,

I'm glad you had the u/s to put your mind at ease. It's heart-stopping to find blood in your panties. I had heavy, heavy bleeding at 10 1/2 weeks. An ultrasound showed a very healthy baby, but my obgyn said there was a very large pool of blood in my uterus, most likely indicating that the placenta was coming detached from the uterine wall. She put me on bedrest for 9 weeks, which is how long it took for the pool of blood to dissipate, and an u/s to show that all looked normal and healthy. She gave me the all-clear to resume my previous activities, and I did. I resumed exercising 6 times a week. I started out quite easily, and gradually increased the intensity as I felt ready for it. I continued to exercise for the rest of the pregnancy, and delivered a healthy baby.

You are obviously the one who has to decide whether you want to continue exercising. If your doctor is okay with it, then just proceed at a pace that you consider comfortable. Exercise provides so many benefits for you during pregnancy that it would be a shame to cut it out altogether.

Good luck!

HI! Congratulations!!! I understand your concern since it's your first. You could and SHOULD exercise through your entire pregnancy. Unless your doctor says off your feet! Exercising is very good for both you and your baby. My father in law is an OB/GYN I get all the real and good advice. I have an 8 month old and worked out up to the very day I went into labor. Now I am almost 9 weeks and have been doing Cathe at least 5 times a week. :)
Good luck! And enjoy your new venture:D

I had heavy bleeding at 11 weeks. I'm talking have to wear a pad type bleeding for a day then spotting for a day.
Everything was okay but I was told to take it easy for a week which is what I did. Then I went back to moderate exercise.
It is very scary news - I know how your feeling start out with a walk or something and slowly build back up. You body may be fine but your mind will take a little bit to stop worrying.
