So you've talked about True Blood how about...

the actual books? Anyone read them? I'm on book 5 right now. I can't keep all those "Dead" titles straight, but it's the one with the pirate. Anyone else love these books? Ok, they are HARDLY good lit, but they are a heck of a lot of fun. Charlain Harris has several other series. Has anyone read any of them? I'm definitely on Team Eric by the way!!! Bill sucks in more ways than one!

Liann you might like the Lily Bard/Shakespear Series, . . and the Grave series. I've read nearly all her books and they are great interesting fast reads that I just couldn't put down. I love them! You'll really like book 9 if you're having misgivings about Bill. Maybe reading the books will change your mind about the TV series???

Yeah Jainie, I am probably going to give it a go at watching through Season 1 again. I'm waiting for DH to start his classes again (working on his MBA) and I'll watch on his school nights. ;)

I like the books

a lot better than the TV Series (sorry, but bad acting is such a turn off). The books are quick reads and I have read 1 - 5. They were fresh and funny. The TV Series is making a lot of stuff up (not to its favor).

What?! I thought the acting was pretty good. I thought that the actors they picked were spot on. Pam, Eric, Lafayette, Godric, Jason, Sam, . . I love that they picked actors that were not that famous with the exception of Sookie and Maryanne. I also LOVE that the books are different from the show, . . . keeps me guessing and wondering what will happen next. I love when a show/movie can transport you and give you that visual image that you see in your brain when you read a good book. You'll have to excuse me I've been bitten by the True Blood bug. :)

Jainie - Since I haven't seen the show, who is Maryanne? Is she supposed to be the manaed? I was pretty sure she had a different name in the books - Callisto wasn't it?

Yes, she is the Manaed. I totally understand what you said before about to much sex, . . .to much foul languange, . . but try to look past it. Just like the books are sorta fun quick reads, not exactly classic american literature. Oooh I'm kinda excited. I would love for you to jump on the True Blood band wagon.

I have read all the books 1-9 and thoroughly enjoyed them. You are absolutely right - not good lit - but great brain candy. :) I haven't read any of Charlain's other series. I am finishing the Harry Potter books at the moment - I know, I know, I am late to the HP party. ;) I haven't decided what to read next so maybe I'll check out another Charlain series. Yep, team Eric here too.

I thought the acting was pretty good too. BTW, do you read TV guide? Alexander Skarsgard, Eric, is on page 16. Ok, back on topic... I also appreciate the series is different from the books. I like to be surprised though I am DONE with Maryanne. I really enjoy some of the other creative changes (Lafayette lives, Jessica, etc). I've been bitten too Janie. :)

I couldn't wait for the library to get the book in so I ended up buying the set on Amazon. :)

Liann-

Its funny you posted this... About 2 weeks ago, I bought the first two of the series and was completely hooked!!! I couldn't put them down.

I have been interested in watching True Blood, but never got around to it. The books are GREAT! I've always had a soft spot for the vampire story, ie Buffy, Angel, Twilight, etc and this totally gave me my fix!

I am looking forward to getting through the rest of the series... the books are "Twilight" for grownups!

Take care, Lynn

Ok, all you book readers, someone help me out with this. I'm on book 6, the one dealing with her going to N.O. to pack up her cousin Hadley's stuff. They keep referring to Hadley's funeral and the Queen of Louisiana coming to Sookie's house with her lawyer to tell Sookie about an inheritance and then Sookie going to the trial for the vamp who supposedly did Hadley in. Ugh... none of that happened in any of the previous 5 books and there doesn't seem like enough of a time gap between book 5 and 6 for any of that to happen. I'm totally confused. Did I miss a chapter somewhere? They don't usually refer to things that didn't happen in a previous book?

no, they didnt cover a lot of stuff with hadley in the previous books. apparently harris wrote some short stories that had some info regarding hadley and her past. i think the one that this refers to is called "one word answer." i havent read it since harris is always good with the quick recaps, so you really dont need to for any background. it might be interesting though.

i started watching the show before i read the books, and i found it to be ok: entertaining but nothing special. once i finished the books, i am in LOVE with the show! its fun to see how they translate on tv and also the liberties HBO took with changing some stuff up.

book 10 comes out in oct and they start filming season 3 this fall (i think the 3rd season premieres next summer). already cant wait!!

I'm on the third book of the series and loving them! I had watched the series from the beginning but only recently bought the books. I also am on team Eric too. The actor that plays him on the series drives me crazy, tall, blond and gorgeous :)

oh yes speaking of team eric, have you girls seen the photo he did for a 2010 calendar (cant remember what its called)?? ENJOY!;)

OMG, I am so excited!!!!!!!!!!!!

ETA: I just went to Charlain's website and "the next original Sookie Stackhouse novel will be on sale in May 2010". A compilation of previous Sookie books will be released October 6. I'm still excited to know book 10 has a due date. :)

OMG!!!! I am even more excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was at Walmart last night and found the Sookie books for $5.97/each (books 1-8). I wish I could wait to get the new releases at such a great price, but I am just not that patient.

Yep yep. I wonder if my Eric affection is greater b/c of the actor playing him. ;) Blond is not my "type" but I'd make an exception for him if I were single. :D
