So what do I think....

He needs to be brought back to the states to have his a** put in jail where he belongs. He raped a 13 year old girl - it's not hard to figure out. He an "artist"......so what? A rapist artist. No slack for this low-life.

By the way, Miss Laura Max, if I'm the "CB" who you think messes with the ratings stars, you are sadly mistaken. I don't rate threads as a rule. As you can see I actually AGREED with your view on Pulanski! That doesn't happen very often, but it DOES happen. Please just knock it off! We can agree to disagree respectfully.

I can't believe the way some in Hollywood are reacting. Sharon Tate's sister was on the Today show saying, "there is rape and then there is rape". She believes that he did not rape the girl. I can't believe that Matt Lauer didn't challenge her at all!
 
I'm HORRIFIED by this story. Some kind of rape took place, even if it was "only" statutory it is a crime! What planet do these people live on that they think talent and fame make a person above the law? It's despicable! And I don't care that the victim wants the issue dropped--it's not her choice. That's why we have laws! This story also brings up some very outdated and offensive ideas about rape. The whole thing is maddening and I hope he finally pays for his crimes.
 
Put me down as horrified as well. That people think his "art" excuses his behavior appalls and infuriates me. If this were the plumber down the street or the UPS man it would be an entirely different story. Take the famous director part out and here is what you have:

47 year old plumber/teacher/rodeo rider drugs a 13 year old girl with Champagne and Quaaludes. He then proceeds to take nude photos of her in a hot tub. After that he violates her vaginally, orally, and anally, all the while ignoring her pleas for him to stop and take her home. When arrested, he confesses to the crime but really doesn't see the big deal because "all men fancy little girls." His friends rally in support of him, calling the child a tramp and claiming she seduced him. Instead of doing his jail time, the man flees the country for 30 plus years, and lives a life of luxury in the South of France, all the while being feted and celebrated by his ding-dong, out of touch with reality friends, who think he got a raw deal and should be free to move about the cabin.

Awful. Repugnant. Sickening. Shame on all speaking out in his defense.

I can't speak for anyone else but what I am outraged about is that they let this guy roam freely in Europe, live the good life, get his awards and they didn't get the warrant to arrest him until now! WTF??????

He should have been in jail 30 years ago. And yes, I feel bad for what happened to his wife, Sharon Tate and I am sure it did effect him but that's not an excuse! A lot of us have things happen in our life but that does not give us a free pass.

What people have said about that 13-year old girl just enrages me. But it is so typical, whenever a woman or girl gets raped the victim is the one who gets blamed. :mad::mad::mad:

I just have to say that it was NOT "only" statutory. "Only" statutory is when a 17-yr. old has consensual sex with her 19-yr. old boyfriend. Since 18 is the legal age of consent in most states, the sex may be "rape" in the legal sense, but may not be so in any other sense of the word. I think it's obvious that where a 13-year old is involved, the offense can never be simply technical. I am not a criminal lawyer, but I believe that since Polanski took flight many states have changed their laws to treat technical offenses as misdemeanors instead of felonies. However, under no law at any time that I am aware of would Polanski be considered anything less than a felon. And to my mind, a dangerous one.

Thanks Nancy for the legal explanation. I just want to say that I don't actually believe that this was "only" a statutory rape. I believe it was a terrible crime, a rape in the full sense of the word. My saying "'only' statutory" was my inarticulate way of disagreeing with those who are saying it wasn't a "real rape". Like Whoopi Goldberg, who said on the View that it wasn't a "rape rape". I'm really infuriated by people who are saying things like this! Of course it was a rape, and I agree that it should be considered a felony!

I watched the Whoopi Golberg clips. Disgusting. And the guest host, Melissa Gilbert, couldn't string two coherent points together about it though she was siding with Whoopi. Who knew she was such a dingbat?

I used to love Debra Winger but when I saw that news conference I wanted to puke. I find it appalling that so many people have come out to support him. Maybe our views on woman and rape have are really not that enlightened, especially with Debra and Whoopi Goldberg (women who are supposed to be enlightened) supporting this sub-human-turd. Shame on you Hollywood!

Oh the arrogance and self-importance. This is a the LA Times quoting movie executive Harvey Weinstein, one of the folks bemoaning RP's arrest:

In an interview, Weinstein said that people generally misunderstand what happened to Polanski at sentencing. He's not convinced public opinion is running against the filmmaker and dismisses the categorization of Hollywood as amoral. "Hollywood has the best moral compass, because it has compassion," Weinstein said. "We were the people who did the fundraising telethon for the victims of 9/11. We were there for the victims of Katrina and any world catastrophe."

I'm putting down my shovel and picking up a barf bag.

What the heck would Whoopi consider "real rape" or "rape rape?" Do all these people speaking out in his defense have children and would they trust their child with this animal? If this had happened to THEIR child would it be "real rape" then? This infuriates me beyond words. I must leave and not read about this anymore.

Oh, gag me with anything. Have mercy. Compassion for everyone but a little girl who was raped.

This needs to be dealt with to protect young girls everywhere. I'm really leaving now...ugh!
 
In my opinion, it does not matter whether or not she consented, whether or not she was star struck, whether or not he forced her, etc. SHE WAS 13!!!!!! This is just gut-wrenching sickening what this grown man did!!!

A man of his age having relations with a 13-year old is just disgusting.

Put him away with the hardcore convicts and let them take care of him.
 
Okay, wait a sec. I saw the Whoopie thing. Whoopie explained the next day that she meant that she wanted the facts straight. Some of the women on the panel were saying that he was charged with rape. Whoopie wanted to get it straight (to cover the View's as$). He was charged with 6 things (including rape). ALL but 1 of the charges were dropped (the rape charge was dropped). I forget which charge stuck. He then fled the country when that 1 charge wasn't dropped. I guess technically she wanted to be sure that it was mentioned that the "rape" charge was dropped. She did make a point of saying that she was not defending him, only trying to be sure that what they were reporting was accurate.

I was disappointed by Melissa Gilbert. I really don't understand the viewpoint of the people defending him. Usually I can see both sides of an argument, but in this case, I don't get it. What is their reasoning for defending him. I don't believe it's complete ignorance. Maybe there's more to all this??? But didn't he admit to giving her qualudes and alcohol and having s-x with her??? If a 40 year old man has s-x with a 13 year old girl, it's criminal. I don't care if she's standing naked in front of him begging. It's just so sick and wrong.
 
The man was and is a rapist. Period. Because he makes great films, it was so long ago, blah blah blah . . he should go free? I don't think so.

Jillian Michaels point blank said "If it was my 13 year old child - I would shoot him" - Well said Jillian!
 
Google You Tube Whoopi Goldberg The View Roman Polanski and listen to her absurd reasoning of this subject. It's unreal . . .
