Hey guys. I'm here. I'm alive. And I HAD a #@*(&%@(&*...ing AWESOME TIME at Mudder yesterday! It wasn't easy, but I LOVED it. I felt so incredibly strong and in control at all times. TONS and TONS of hills and mountains and ski slopes because, well, we WERE at a ski resort after all! I love training on hills and the stadium stairs workout I do each week has helped TREMENDOUSLY. I've been working hard to get ready for my marathon AND Mudder and I honestly believe the combination of the running endurance with my weight training is what got me thru yesterday as strongly as it did. I'll be working on my race report tonight and will share that with you guys when it's done. In the meantime, pics are on FB...both from my mom and my friends, as WELL as on the actual Tough Mudder album...they caught me a few times and that resulted in some really cool pictures of me.
SORRY TO RAMBLE about ME! I promise more detail in my report. It'll be wordy, you've been warned.
Today....a bit sore in some places like my lats and shoulders and outer hip flexors. I did Stretch Max this morning (no equipment) then after school hopped on my bike for the first time this Spring and hit the road. 20 miles later I was home and LOVED every single second! I'm on a high right now!!!!
My STS dvds came in today =)!! but they sent me the wrong dvd I ordered the squat dvd,but got ab circuit. I just emailed support so hopefully I'll get the rite one soon. =)
Checking in with Low Max, OMG!! my legs were SO fatigued!!!! And walking up our 3 flight of stairs with a 20lbs baby was a challenge today. That is one brutal workout. I could only do up #6 interval. My leg said " nope no more"
Look forward to tomorrows workout which is a Firm,Haven't done a Firm in a long time. Im taking a break from a full Cathe rotation, but shes still in there
Teri, Low Max is at the top of my list of faves. Glad to hear it's effective, aren't ya? LOL Great job...now, when are you planning on playing with the new DVDs?
I posted my race report for the Mudder on my FB page, although you may have already seen it.
Still a bit sore in my shoulders and lats, so I'm avoiding the weights one more day. I did the first of 2 workouts on Jillian M's Yoga Meltdown...gotta tell ya...I was sweating but felt great. That's gonna be it for the day today. No workout this afternoon; I was contemplating hitting the pool or getting in a short easy run, but I really need to just take it back a notch....but JUST FOR TODAY!
Wendy-I'm looking to doing STS in May. I'm excited to start.
One question did you do a 1 repmax for all the DVDs in STS? I just mine for Total Body. I didn't realize all the other extras on that DVD.
Yesterday I made it to sports authority and found weight lifting gloves by cathe, so I had to buy them along with my 4lb dumbbells :0 for shoulder work. ....lol
This Morning it was TMS from the Firm. I haven't done a firm for a long time. But I got my *** kicked! I really enjoyed it. I owe a lot to The Firm.
I did Cardio Kicks w/weighted gloves and 2 of the 3 ab sections in BBC S&B this morning.
Cardio Kicks kicks my butt every time!
Terina:: Initially I had done a bunch of the 1RM's but most of the weight loads were too heavy and I was unhappy with the results after doing 3 weeks of the 3 month rotation and quit STS for several months. When I came back to STS this time I did not re-do my 1RM's and just chose weights I thought were appropriate based on past experience. I also chose to do the 6 month program this time which allows me a 2nd opportunity with each work out to tweak my weight choices if need be. It's working out soooooo much better for me! That's just me though. Many swear by the 1RM's. I will still be plugging away come May so you'll have "company" while doing atleast some of your rotation. I am currently on track to finish up at the end of June.
I have to agree with Wendy on the 6 month rotation for the very same, exact reasons she stated. I LOVED doing each week's workout twice before moving onto the next week. I did 1RMs for the very first time I did STS (6 month) and was happy with that. When I started the 6 month rotation the 2nd time, I did NOT re-do them. Like Wendy, I know my weights pretty well and was able to make a judgement call and then tweak it for the repeat week.
OK...yesterday was only a 30 min yoga session (Jillian M's Yoga Meltdown) and it wasn't easy, but it was a nice change for one more recovery day. Today...I'm back at it. I already hit Back & core. This afternoon I'm either doing the stadium stairs if the weather cooperates or other cardio. I'll have to see what the weather ends up telling me to do.
Gayle:: Good work out plan you have there. I have about 1/2 a dozen yoga work outs that have been collecting dust for over a year now...probably more like 2. I really need to find time for that again soon or they will be getting sold on Ebay along with the other dusty dvds I don't use.
Step Fit for me today,I did 1st half on 8' step. Pretty proud of myself. Its been along time since i've done that. What was funny was I started thinking I can't finish this workout I was tired, then I thought OH! I can lower my step...lol funny how 6' feels after doing the 8'. I think I need to add more streching to my mornings or evenings I was pretty tight all over.
Wendy and Gayle, thank you for your input.=) I appreciate it.
Gayle, the pictures on FB are incredible, that looked liked tuff work.
Today's work out was cardio from both BBC arms and abs as well as shoulders and back. Finished it off with the standing oblique work from shoulders and back. WOW-tough work out! Cardio was killer!
Terina:: I will do the low impact stuff on an 8" step but usually not the higher impact stuff unless it's an older work out where Cathe used it...then I have to! Good job with your work out!
Good morning ladies!
Checking in with The Firm's Super Body Sculpt with Stephanie, she had my heart rate up =). I looked at my calender for last year and these 6pks Firm weren't even done in 2010,only the new ones and some classics. Its good to do these again. Also had a great stretch with cathe =) one more day and im done for the week yeeeeehaaaaa!
Wendy- I noticed Rhonda is usually on the 8" step in the older workouts. what dvd is BBC?
Terina:: BBC is Barry's Boot Camp. Yup-Rhonda always always always used an 8" step cause she's the tall one of the crew. I'm more inline with Cathe and the others so I can justify sticking with 6"!
8 mile run this afternoon in the gorgeous 65 degree weather....wearing a tank and running shorts. It felt awesome (the weather, that is)....the run was one of those runs where I thought about EVERY SINGLE step. It didn't hurt, and it was a good run, but for some reason my mind didn't just wander away like it normally does.
Headed to bed shortly. I'm doing STS TB upper body only tomorrow. This week's weight workouts have been a bit off since I sort of recovered from the Mudder on Monday and Tuesday. So I'll get back to my normal weight routine on Monday.
STS M2 D16(2nd time)...DONE! Almost at the halfway mark for meso 2! Active recovery for me as soon as I finish discs 17 and 18 this weekend! Where has the time gone!?!?
Gayle:: Love STS TB! Can't wait to do it again though I'm not sure when I'll get the chance at this point! I think everyone is thankful for the weather finally turning the corner. Life is good! I love the mild weather. I could deal with spring all year 'round! IKWYM about being aware of every step during a run. Runs like that were always tougher to get through for me.
Wendy, I ended up not doing STS TB! I woke up and just wasn't feeling like weights, but I wanted to kill my upper body, so I chose to do MMA:Boxing with my weighted gloves. That always does the trick for UB DOMS!
Trying to plan out my long run for tomorrow. I can log anywhere from 9-16 (shooting for the higher number, of course) but we have a game at 9am so it looks like it's gonna be a very early morning yet again. Oh well. There are less than 5 weeks till my marathon (and less than 3 weeks for my half), so the early morning long runs will go on the back burner after that.
Anyway....just getting some stuff done around the house. Have a great evening!
Only 40 more minutes and I can blow this joint for the weekend!!!
Well, I pulled the trigger so to speak. I joined WW online. Cool sight. I think I'm gonna like this! Seems quite doable to me. I've logged my food for today and keeping in mind that I hadn't actually measured what I ate because I wasn't planning to track it today so I had to guesstimate amounts, I've only consumed about half of my daily allowed points so far! That should leave me plenty of room for my glass of wine, dinner and even a small dessert or snack!
FYI-I am looking to look 5-6 pounds but they are stubborn and I need help desperately! I am hearing great things about WW these days so I'm giving it a shot. Never used them before. First time for everything!
Gayle:: I hear ya on kb with the weighted gloves! It's a favorite of mine and I've gotten DOMS from on more then one occassion myself! I remember getting up and out the door at 6 or 7 am in the summer when I was training for a half or my 18 miler in order to "beat the heat" (if it was even possible!). It was tough to wrap my mind around a long run at that hour of the morning but just like anything else...when it was over it was an awesome sense of accomplishment to be DONE for the day!
Happy Saturday! 14+ mile long run done, started UBER early and dark, was pretty windy as a storm was rolling in (it's hitting us NOW), and I felt tired around mile 10. Guess I shoulda taken a rest day after the Mudder, huh? LOL But, it's done. And besides that, we've already played (and won) 2 basketball games, had baseball practice, hit the grocery store and gas station, and dropped DS#2 at a friend's house.
DS#1 had a MAJOR, as in M-A-J-O-R emotional meltdown. Long story, but the main point is he feels his basketball coaches think a certain other player is better than him (DS). He's convinced the other kid gets more playing time (from the bleachers, I don't see that); convinced the coach thinks DS is the weaker player (again, not from my seat); convinced that coach doesn't know how BADLY he wants to play (as if DS TELLING him that didn't make his point). He was unconsolable. (sp?) I had to pull out the BIG GUNS....."ya know what Daddy woulda said to you.....?" Great.....that made us BOTH teary-eyed. And NOW, after a shower and some lunch, he's sound asleep, SNORING on the couch!
